The Villain Always Dies in the End
The Calm Before the Storm (1) - 1

The Calm Before the Storm (1) - 1

I spent the entirety of my first year as a baby trying to learn the language of the world that we were in, Leyfali, whilst all Eva did was talk incessantly to me.

Although she was probably talking in Korean, which our parents thought was just a baby language she had made up, it somehow got translated into English for me, probably having something to do with this "Mental Connection" that we had.

I also spent a lot of the first year experimenting with the Mental Connection, and through these experiments, I learned 3 things.

1. The Mental Connection doesn't work anymore after a separation of 20 meters (this was the hardest one to find out as Eva stuck to me all the time).

2. You can "turn on" and "turn off" the Mental Connection at any time by imagining a switch flipping (although it seemed like Eva never figured this out or didn't want to).

3. The Mental Connection also relayed the corresponding feelings with the words that were transmitted (so I was showered with feelings of love and adoration everyday).

...

During the second year, I spent a lot of time teaching Eva how to speak Leyfali.

At this point, she was now constantly telling me how smart I was, believing that I was a real genius while she was only a person that had memories of her past life.

And even though we could walk and semi-run by now, I somehow still couldn't get away from her for even a second.

I mean, even I was starting to think that she was too obsessive as a sister, as we even stayed together during baths and when we went to sleep (even though our nannies were always trying to separate her from me).

At 5 years of age, we were still doing the same thing.

"Wake up oppa! Wake up oppa! Wake up oppa!"

I felt a sharp pain hit my belly as Eva started jumping up and down on me.

"Okay, okay, I'm awake, so get off of me."

I grabbed her and then flipped her over, so that I was on top now, and then let go and slowly got off of the bed.

This book was originally published on Royal Road. Check it out there for the real experience.

Still lying there with a brilliant smile, she asked, "Can we go to the garden today Oppa?"

Just when I was about to say no, as I was really engrossed in my studies right now, she sensed my impending refusal.

"Please, please, please, please, please?"

Seeing this scene, I couldn't help but cover my eyes with my hands before taking a deep breath.

"Hoo... Haa..."

"Alright, fine, we'll go to the garden, but just for today." I warned, knowing full well that it would fall on death ears.

"Yayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!" She yelled, before flopping back down onto the bed.

Leaving her in her sense of accomplishment, I left the room in deep thought.

'Damn! Why the hell is she just so cute?'

//I heard that Oppa. Remember, no cursing! You're too young.//

Blushing in embarrassment, as I had just made her turn on her "middle aged woman" mode, I quickly turned off the Mental Connection.

'Damnit! Damnit! Damnit! Damnit! Damnit!'

...

I was sitting under a tree whilst letting her take a nap with my lap as a pillow.

We had spent the entirety of the morning and afternoon running around, playing games like tag and hide-n-seek, and now that she had exhausted herself, she easily fell asleep.

I called Charlotte to my side, before asking her for a drink.

After receiving my glass of the finest iced tea, I sat there, unconsciously stroking Eva's purple hair whilst in thought again.

For the past 5 years, I had spent a lot of time analyzing her and this was what I got.

First, it seemed like she had immersed herself in the role of the little twin sister, but at some times, let her "middle aged woman" out when she experienced a spike in negative emotions or when she was trying to poke fun at me.

Second, she still insisted on calling me oppa, so even though she was saying oppa at the ends of her sentences in Leyfali, the maids and our parents just thought that she had made up a nickname for me when we were little.

Third, overall, aside from her thoughts over our mental connection, she maintained the image of a little noble girl really well, and rarely gave hints that she was a transmigrator.

Actually, I seemed more like a transmigrator than her, as a little child spending all his time studying was really sus, but most of the people at the mansion had already accepted that I was a genius.

So, to sum it up, we seemed like a slightly abnormal pair of twins, with a brother who was always trying to study, whilst the sister was overly happy, always wanting to play.

Of course, there were other abnormalities with us, like how we learned Leyfali when we were two and how we could sometimes communicate without speaking to each other, which was apparent when our expressions changed suddenly even though we weren't directly speaking.

I was pretty sure that some of the maids had noticed it, but our parents and the rest of them were apparently blinded by our cuteness, I mean, even I had to admit that the image of a stoic little boy with his twin sister dragging on his sleeve, desperately trying to pull him towards where the fun was, was really cute.

Then, there were our nannies, Charlotte and Elsie.

To explain the difference between a nanny and a maid, it was just that the main job of a maid was to serve their master, while the main job of a nanny was to protect their master.

And, although both our nannies acted like maids most of the time, I could tell if I looked closely at their muscular structures and overall auras that they were dangerous people.

Don't ask me how I could tell this, I just could for some reason.

As my surroundings got darker, I shook myself from my thoughts before starting to gently shake Eva.

"No, no, no, no, no, I want to sleep more." She muttered, hugging my legs even tighter.

"Okay, okay, you can sleep." I said, gently patting her head before lifting her up in a princess carry.

I lightly carried her to our room, where I layed her on her side of the bed.

'She looks so cute in that dress.' I thought wistfully.

I then called in one of the maids to change her into her pajamas before leaving the room and standing beside the door.

I waited for the maid to leave the room before entering again and changing into my pair of silk pajamas by myself.

I slowly lowered myself down onto my side of the bed, making sure to not disturb her sleep, before clasping my hands together and laying them on my belly, trying to fall asleep myself.

'Let's hope that she'll let me study tomorrow.'
