Act 6 - By Luck - Part 1

Ace leaves the locker room, neither happy nor ecstatic but slightly in a bad mood. He exits the building and onto the public sidewalk.

Dennarrow- 'I waited a day and a half just to run, jump, and duck for thirty minutes. That was some bullshi-'

Stacy- "Yo."

A blonde woman with straight blonde hair and green eyes comes in front of him. They make eye contact with each other.

Stacy- "Whoa. Your eyes are silver."

Denarrow- "Word."

Stacy- "Oh sorry, my name's Stacy James. I'm a fellow Gladiator like you."

Denarrow- "You sound normal-ish."

Stacy- "Oh you're not from here either. Good to know, I'm from La Angela so I don't have the Midcity accent."

Denarrow- "What do you want?"

Stacy- "Who're you?"

Denarrow- "Denarrow Ace, I mean The Untitled."

Stacy- "Well Ace, can I call you Ace? Well Ace…"

Denarrow- 'She talks fast.'

Stacy- "... congratulations on your opening victory. I've also won my first round."

Denarrow- "I won?"

Stacy- "You did, I thought they were going to calculate the score by hits, but because Marco Danny had Paradise burnout, his health bar dropped. But is that how you won your previous matches?"

Denarrow- "That was my first one." 'Is she stupid?'

Stacy- "No I mean, the twenty five matches you won straight."

Denarrow- "No, I think I killed them all. In the simulation of course."

Stacy- 'I thought he'd have more of a surprised reaction to me knowing about his record.'

Denarrow- "Is that it?"

Stacy- "You're The Untitled, right? Why did you change your title from 'Untitled'?"

His lips move to the right, and his eyes look to the left.

Denarrow- "I don't know."

Stacy- 'Lie.' "I'll let you go then. I…"

Denarrow- "Cool."

He walks by, not even letting her say another word.

Stacy- 'Oh well, if he has Sin, I’ll soon enough learn about him.'

Ace leaves the building and heads back to the Hostel.

Nami- "And Brooklyn doesn't know any of this."

Denarrow- "I think she does. She knows I went to underground arenas and Veno confirmed she placed a bet on me."

Nami- "Then she knows."

Denarrow- "I don't know. I never really talked to her about it, nor does she ever bring it up. But I told her to place a bet on The Untitled, so she might think it's me. It's more of a: she had to have put the pieces together to know I'm the Untitled. But she doesn't really put the pieces together on stuff like that. Only when it comes to her work and studies."

Nami- "I get dat vibe from her too."

Denarrow- "Just please don't bother her about it until I win."

Nami- "Why?"

Denarrow- "I don't really know how to put it so it’d make sense, but I like our friendship as it is now."

Nami- "Hmm…" 'I didn't know he could think like that.' "I guess so. She's also busy lately, well busy is not the least of what she's on right now. But since I have to keep your secret-ish thingy I think it's time to let me in on one of your other secrets."

Denarrow- "What do you mean?"

Nami- "You should've died that day, but you sit here like the healthiest teenager in the world."

The tone of her voice turns serious at the end of the sentence.

Nami- "Ahh thank you."

The chef delivers her box of food, putting it on the outdoor bar right next to her. She opens it up and begins eating a combination of rice, noodles, and meat. They sit on stools at a food cart, and around them is a metropolis of food carts. Although a bit cloudy, the day is nice without wind and is comfortably warm. People are out as always, keeping the dense city-size block market open and in twenty-four-hour business.

Denarrow- 'I did heal right in front of her. I'll tell her what she needs to know to be satisfied.'

Nami- "So, what's up?"

She says with her mouth half full.

Denarrow- "I have a Paradise."

Nami- "No shit. Despite what the tournament commentators said, I wasn't convinced. So what Fruit is it?"

Denarrow- "It's not really a Fruit."

Nami- "So you've inherited from your parents who ate the Fruit."

Denarrow- "Not exactly. You don't eat a Paradise Fruit or just inherit it, you earn it through multiple forms of hard work. It's in its own special category. It's called Sin."

Nami- "I've never heard of it before."

Denarrow- "I think you have. The Paradise power is mostly known as Demon Eyes, the Eyes of the Angels, a combination of those words."

From looking straight forward, he looks to his right, seeing her frozen in place with noodles halfway in her mouth.

Denarow- "You good? You got a little something on your mou-"

She then aggressively eats her food until there's nothing left, gets up, and pulls Ace along with her. They then sit at a table meant for one-on-one seating, isolated and away from anyone else. She looks at him with the eyes of curiosity, hungry for more information.

Nami- "Continue."

Denarrow- "Right, umm… Where was I?"

Nami- "Demon Eyes and Sin. Keep it moving."

Denarrow- "Right, I have an ability called Sin. And I use it to heal myself."

He puts a thumb up, capping off Nami's frustration. Her eyes squint almost closing and a sinister-like grin appears on her face.

Nami- "I need more than that. That doesn't give me enough to… No just no, I need more please. Like a step for step or something."

Denarrow- "Oof. Well you can't tell anybody. You couldn't tell anybody from the start, but now you definitely can't tell anybody about me or what I'm about to tell you."

Nami- "Right."

She puts a thumbs up with her eyes wide open. She then sits, looks, and listens with her eyes, ears, and body like a little kid. Ace sighs, knowing he's going to go against his teachings.

Denarrow- "Where do I start? I'm going to put it to how it was taught to me. Sin allows you to control the mind."

Nami- "I've heard this type of thing before, humans only use one or so percent of their brain, but it was debunked."

Denarrow- "We use one hundred percent of the brain, but we only control a portion of it. For example, my brain tells my body to blink without my personal approval. Same for breathing, same thing for everything to reduce what I think is micromanaging which helps keep us alive."

Nami- "Okay makes sense." ‘He sounds much more sophisticated and interested.’

Denarrow- 'Is she going to say something every time?' "Sin allows you to personally use parts of your brain that used to be inaccessible, therefore allowing you control of the full body. Hope that makes sense."

Nami- "Is there an example?"

Denarrow- "It gets a little complicated. There's vague and more complex orders I can give my body. When I was first training, it was hard to increase my muscles and durability. I had to meditate and focus on myself for a long time. But now I can easily tell my muscles or any part of me to shift weight or size. It's like learning coordination in a sport, you have to manually do it until it becomes natural. But eventually there's stuff that requires a lot, and I mean a lot more thought and focus like shape-shifting and other types of stuff. Oh thanks."

The chef from the food cart hand delivers Ace's box of food. He puts it on the table and starts eating.

Nami- "Cellular manipulation."

Denarrow- "What does that mean?"

Nami- "You can control the cells of the body."

Denarrow- "Oh you mean manipulation of the cells."

Nami- 'Is he being funny?'

Ace goes on without the slightest of there being any humor.

Denarrow- "You can do that, but that's a lot of work. What I do is a bit more magic. I tell my brain to do it, and the cells sort of do it themselves. To manually go tell billions of them little things to do one thing is a lot and useless or impossible when it comes to certain things. The rewards are pretty good though. The only time I did that was to get rid of aging."

Nami- "You don't age?"

Denarrow- "Yeah."

He says it so casually while stuffing his mouth noodles. For Nami, it's a holy revelation.

Nami- "I'm talking to an immortal?"

Denarrow- "I can die, but thanks to my healing factor, resistance to all diseases and germs and stuff, I can only die if I want to or someone or something strong enough can kill me."

Nami- "How old are you actually? Are you just a relic, where were you during slavery?"

Her curiosity and excitement start expanding as he talks.

Denarrow- "Relax, I was only born in 2002."

She goes on, barely taking in what he just said.

Nami- "No wonder you look so young. Holy fuck. And you can heal yourself just like back then. You can probably regrow a limb, make a clone of yourself. The possibilities are endless."

She got less curious and more imaginative upon learning of his new ability.

Nami- "And this is all because of Sin? What do those eyes do? Wait, you have the eyes too. And you wear a mask while fighting. That means you were using it while fighting. What are the benefits it brings to fighting?"

Denarrow- "Quiet down. But yes, I do.The eyes are only a signature look type of thing that we can't change. It’s the only thing we can't change about our bodies. Whenever Sin is active, like we change our body or enter a state where our body needs constant strength, speed, healing, the eyes turn dark. They're just a sign that we have the power and if the power is currently activated, but it's really all a mind thing. I don't know why they turn black. For combat, it's a little different. Right now, I don't like to sound bragging, but I am always in a peak state of human physicality. I never have to stretch or workout. I can enter Sin and tell my body to stay like this forever, exit Sin and there I have it. Like my immortality thingy, I don't have to keep on using it."

Nami- "So you don't use it during combat? Or you don't use it much?"

Denarrow- "I actually do use it during combat, continuously too. But it's mostly used for healing. And apping into superhuman strength or speed, often both. It's probably not as you think it is. I'm not easily able to lift cars with one hand or run a hundred miles an hour. It's more like the absolute strength and speed the perfect human can possibly reach, two times over. It's mostly a magic type of thing because there's no way a regular human, physically perfect or not, can actually reach those numbers. For healing I use it during the tournament and the one time I got shot at with you, I used Sin to heal myself rapidly. If you think about it, Sin is an enhancer and it can speed up regular human abilities like healing."

Nami- "Does it hurt?"

Denarrow- "Does it hurt to get shot at?"

Nami- "That too but I meant to use Sin."

Denarrow- "No, I assume it's like using any other Paradise ability. A bit more technical though. And I don't have a pain factor."

Nami- "You were awake and calm after I saw you get hit by a car. You din’t go unconscious but you didn’t feel any pain?"

Denarrow- "When most people get hit by something and get knocked out, their brain gets hurt and then shuts off due body maintenance things not working in the mind or something. Since I'm in control of my brain, or if you weirdly think about it, my brain tells the rest of my brain to stay on avoiding a knockout. And I didn't feel pain because I don't feel pain. I removed the things that told my brain that there is pain. So I don't feel pain but I sense damage. So if you shoot me in the chest, I'll probably still be standing and act like nothing happened. But the damage is still there and needs to be repaired otherwise bodily complications arise. It's a hassle."

Nami- "You bleed out? I look back and realize you didn't."

Denarrow- "I can control all the cells in my body, so I don't have to if I keep focus or don't care. Sometimes it's unavoidable if the injury is big enough. I didn't that day because I don't have many clothes right now to keep on staining through."

Nami- "Right right, I understand. So your fast healing factor and other traits make you almost immortal. So what do you die from? I mean how can someone kill you."

Denarrow- "I don't really know if I should be answering that but I can die. If you have a laser that can evaporate…."

Nami- "Vaporize."

Denarrow- "... anyone, that's one way. I do have a limit until I burnout just like a regular person with Paradise powers. Anyone with Sin has lots of stamina. Anyone who has it in general are most likely deadly and they're not gonna go down easily in any type of battle."

Nami- “No kidding. The most dangerous people who rule from the top have 'em. Now I think about, what's the difference between one eye vs two eye Sin?"

Denarrow- "That's simple. Like every other Paradise Fruit power, there is a Grade Class, one through four."

Nami- "The number of black eyes represents the number of their Grade Class?"

Denarrow- "Regular Paradisians can't shift their power level, they can only minimize their usage of it. Sin, users can go to Grade-1st to Grade-2nd, and retract from Grade-2nd to Grade-1st. Like a gearshift in a car. I like to personally use just one eye for most of the time. Going Grade-2nd brings more rewards but…" 'brings unwanted attention' "... is unnecessary. I can't go beyond the second Grade though, not yet at least."

Nami- "Wow. So you're beating powerful Paradisians with only a Grade-1st."

Denarrow- "Yeah."

Nami- 'It doesn't seem like he is lying but hiding something. Everything makes sense but he's keeping some things secret.'

Denarrow- "I beat people by myself using my tactics and martial capabilities. Sin only supports me carrying out the ass beatings I do. And to be honest, I'm not that great at using Sin. I know you have many questions, but A; I shouldn't even be telling you this, and B; I'm not that smart nor creative to know all the answers myself. For example 'Do you have to sleep?', I can't answer that question. I sleep and never tried to go in my head to turn that necessity off before. I can delay sleep and still feel energized. But, I still sleep though and I don't know the effects if I didn't. I'm trying to say I'm not that much of a creative thinker when it comes to this power."

Nami- "I understand what you mean. I just have so many questions. The magic and science, the possibilities, the limits, it's a lot. What if this was a regular Paradise Fruit that grew in someone's house."

Denarrow- "Something my Master told me was that Sin is for the Titans, Gods, and Angels, for a reason. It took me a while to figure out that meaning and I still sort of don't."

Nami- "The masses were never to be immortal, neither to be enlightened. Those powers are only to be reserved for the honored ones above. That's what he said."

Denarrow- That's what who said?"

Nami- "I don’t know, probably no one."
