After we carefully walked back to our bed, I heard our dad walk back upstairs and sigh. He opened our door to see if we were sleeping then closed it and then he slowly walked to his room furthest back in the hallway and for some reason I felt extremely drowsy, probably because I was in the body of a thirteen year old, and quickly fell asleep.
…
I heard multiple loud roosters screaming and my body instinctively got up and started panicking until I remember all that happened yesterday. After calming myself down I got out of bed and we all ate a relatively large breakfast for the family’s standards. I was finishing my last bit of hard bread and walked with Abby to go outside when my dad came up from behind and grabbed me by the shoulder. I turn around in surprise to see him say “You don’t need to work anymore, I’m sure you’ve heard the conversation I had with the gentlemen as you aren’t very good at hiding it. I want you to head upstairs and gather all the spare clothes you have and carefully organize them, and after that come to me in my bedroom, I have an early birthday present for you.”
“Ok father.” I say trying to sound concerned but inside I was extremely excited. I was glad ‘Elder’, or as I now should call him ‘Lucas Seymer’, managed to pull through. Also; I was partly relieved that I wouldn’t have gotten a second chance at life to just be a farmer, although that would mean I would have to wave goodbye to my family for a while. Thankfully though, I didn’t grow too attached to my family as of yet even though I have memories of being with them, but I do wonder why I got the body I did. Was it just luck of the draw? Was it because my personality matched the boys that much? I may never know, but at least I can help my family from afar once I get a higher position in this world.
I run upstairs, the rickety floorboards shaking with each step, and quickly fold the few pieces of clothing I have. After that I jog to my dads room he turns to look at me with a small leather backpack in his hand. He hands it trying to hold back tears, which lets all the joy I had about leaving escape me like a deflating balloon “Son, this came from the messenger before sunrise. It supposedly contains all the tools you would need as a mage, or so the messenger said. All I can say is to stay strong and don’t let anyone pick on you even though your a commoner, but rather be proud that Great Mage Seymer picked you of all people.” He hands the bag to me along with what was in his clenched fists, one large silver coin which was probably his life savings “Go, go to the town nearby and get some better clothes and some tools. Please spend it wisely.” He bursts out crying and I quickly leave the house. As I walk outside Abby looks over at me with a combination of jealousy and sadness, and I walk down the path to the town.

After I’m about half way there I look in the bag to find a short staff with a small crystal on it, a nicely bundled up cloak a few potions of an unknown substance and a small bag with a few small yet extremely shiny gold coins along with a metal badge that had the design of a pair of wings around a small crystal. I decide to keep those hidden at the bottom of the bag less someone steels it and put on the cloak but without covering my head to prevent people from not recognizing me. After reorganizing the bag I slowly put all the stuff away and walk towards town.
…
After about an hour I make it to the gate and upon seeing me they let me in with a warning “Don’t steel any fruits again today, got it?” “Yes, sorry about the last few times.” I apologize and walk past into the town. With the large stone walls looming behind me and the barons castle in the distance, I walk down the street to the nearest tailor. My memory failed me a few times but thankfully I didn’t end up in the slums and made it to the tailor eventually.
After walking in the front doors, I see rows upon rows of clothes in front of me ranging from children to adult sized. I look around and spot a few nice pieces of leather armor and call one of the assistants. She takes one glance at me and quickly responded “Do you think you can afford that with a few small coppers? Get out.” She said smugly and I was on my way out the door when I heard a mans voice yell “Hold on Mr.John!” and what sounded like the back door opening. I turn around to see presumably the tailor out of breath and the assistant looking the tailor in horror.
“I am so sorry about my assistants behavior! It’s not everyday that a trainee mage looks to us for help, but that does not excuse my assistants behavior and she will be promptly kicked out.” he glares at the girl, who is now on the verge of tears “If there is anything that you require assistance with, please by all means let me know! I’ll even throw in a discount of one large coin for your family being our customers for so long.”
“Thank you for the offer Mr.Tailor! I would just like to know the price of these few leather pieces.” I point out the hard leather tunic and knee guards, and after a while of talking both business and non business, I walked out of the store with a hard leather tunic and knee guards but with my wallet 5 large coppers lighter.
