9. City

Dale started narrating his new [Skill]. “Congratulations! For foolishly and blindly depending in your luck and maxing [Fortuna], you have obtained a [Unique] Skill. Note: [Unique] skills or titles are only obtainable by one user.”

“Wow, even the Record is insulting you.” Kayle said sarcastically.

“Oh, shut up,” Dale told her and then continued. “[The Fool’s Wheel of Fortune]: Even though you are a free spirit; you know well the threads of destiny. You can survive lethal damage once a day. When being overwhelmed by numbers, the enemy’s accuracy will downgrade. Your own accuracy is now increased by [Fortuna]. Note: This [Skill] is from the [Tarot] set. [Tarot] titles or skills became more powerful when more of them are present. Your skill is also a Double [Tarot]. You cannot longer obtain [Tarot] skills or titles. Your Double [Tarot] Skill counts as two for the [Tarot] party bonus.”

“He stole my card!” Kayle pointed at Dale. She was referring to The Fool card Mike talked about earlier. Adrian ignored Kayle as he felt again that weird synesthesia when someone recited a Record’s message.

Dale threw himself on the ground, trying to catch back his breath after that long description. Dale was muttering something about wanting to die, but that was interrupted by a Record message.

“Nice.” Said Dale between breaths, giving Axel a thumbs up.

“Nice, indeed.” Told Axel back.

“What?” Asked Kayle after being left out of the conversation. “What’s nice?”

“Our skills and titles have been upgraded,” Axel explained. “Now I received 70% less damage at critical health.”

“Congrats, you are immortal.” Said Adrian. “What about you?” He talked to Dale.

“My get out of jail card now works on allies,” Dale told. “But it’s still once a day.”

“Aren’t we obtaining this [Tarot] series too easily?” Aby asked a doubt everyone had.

“I wouldn’t say that if Dale got it first,” Adrian started. “you know [Fortuna] shenanigans, but even then, we know nothing about this world or how does the Arcane Record even work,” Adrian told her while revising what time was now, he sighed. “But I can only speculate that this is because all of us have Maxxed our [Stats]. Can you look at your [Min-maxer] title? It says that the Records values Maxxed people. Maybe the Record is just taking pity on us.”

Axel shrunk his shoulder. “I dunno. But we should get going and start looking for a city.”

The tale has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.

“You are right.” Adrian said.

The group marched downstream, with the intent of finding a coastal city, but it didn’t really matter to them if it was a common one.

The march was uneventful as marches in another world could get. The party was ‘ambushed’ by another swarm of mantis, Axel’s sixth danger sense worked pretty well to evade getting caught off guard.

Even though there were eight [Archimantis Homicida], the party managed with ease as Adrian insta-killed one of the mantises and when Axel did kill one of them, thanks to Aby and Kayle’s buffs combined, his [Title] activated and they fled in terror. Then the mantises got insta-killed again by a combination of Mike’s arrows to the only mantis that was inflected with [Berserk] status alignment instead of [Fear] and the other ones by Adrian’s [Assassinate] skill spam.

“That’s a sick combo.” Dale told Adrian, who was resting at a nearby rock.

“Yes…” Adrian said back.

He was tired even if the [Assassinate] skill said that it didn’t cost any extra stamina. That didn’t mean that his other four rush and stab combos did not cost stamina. Adrian had walked for about four hours today only on Mundompio, but he was at the end of his turn on Earth, plus various uses of [Fast Stab]. Adrian was low on stamina.

“I think will take the next fights more chill.” Adrian said incoherently. He felt at his limit. He did not even care that he leveled up to level four.

“Sure.” Axel said, now cleaning his two-hander again at the river.

“Shouldn’t we take parts of the mantises with us?” Asked Mike while recovering his arrows. Mike could feel Aby’s death gaze upon him. “I mean, if this is a fantasy world and we are going to a city maybe they will buy the bodies?”

“I know what you mean,” Adrian told him, laying on the rock. “But we are in no conditions of carrying more load at the moment. Hell, we don’t even have any bag to store them in.”

“Hmm,” Mike said in affirmation with a growl. “Let’s get going.”

While they were still walking down the river, a new conversation topic arose. “How it is that there are only praying mantises at this forest?” Dale asked out of nowhere.

“We should think of it as a game,” Adrian said. “This is the Mantis Territory, so there is only mantis to hunt.”

“But we did hear birds, but we haven’t seen anyone.” Kayle joined the conversation.

“True,” Adrian added. “I did forget about that. Not also animals we should be paying attention. There are mushrooms, it wouldn’t be strange to find some herbivores at the woods.”

“I remembered something,” Aby told. “Normal mantis can ambush small birds and eat them, and there are birds that eat mushrooms. So, a human-sized praying mantis could base its diet out of common birds.”

“We are in another world.” Mike counterargued.

“We did see that Mundompio resembles Earth.” Aby added.

“We come from different Earths.” Mike continued.

“Listen here you little…” Aby’s voice was interrupted when she collided with Axel’s back. “Ow, what did you stop?”

“Holy shit.” Said Dale before Axel. “A city!”

“Wait!” Adrian cried to the group which started running towards the newly found city. “We don’t know if the city will be friendly.”

Adrian’s argument made sense and the party stopped at their feet.

“What we should do then?” Axel asked.

“Let me go inside first.” Adrian explained. “We don’t even know if we will understand the language of Mundompio or we will be attacked on sight. I will enter the city as a traveler or something like that and confirm if it is a safe place. I don’t want to sound pessimistic, but if things do go south, I will use my [Celeratio] and flee to later regroup with you guys. What do you think?”

Everyone nodded.

“Bon Voyage.” Aby told Adrian as he marched towards the first town they had ever found on Mundompio.
