Chapter 3 - Contact and how worries disappear

I was walking on the narrow path and reached the city.

It's clearly a city, even if we wouldn’t call it a city nowadays, but it would count as city in MMOs.

No skyscrapers or glass houses, neither cars, buses or a concrete pavements.

It’s more old fashioned, the houses were built with stones and wood. The road was made with cobblestone. The whole city was surrounded by a big wall.

I was standing in front of the entrance and was thinking what I should do.

There were two guards, which were wearing armor and looked intimidating. Both had swords sheathed. Also they seemed quite well built too.

If I screw this up, it could end really bad and if I just stay here at the same place for too long I might look suspicious.

But it seemed they didn’t notice me anyway.

For my destination I need to get pass them.

But as I was thinking about that, I also noticed something really disturbing.

Why was I assuming this is one of those worlds?

This tale has been unlawfully lifted without the author's consent. Report any appearances on Amazon.

I might as well got teleported to the past, to the dark ages. Or just somewhere else on earth, where those buildings and people wearing armor and sword was normal.

While  the latter would be pretty unusual for my world, but the former could be also true, except that this was indeed another world confirmed by the two moons.

Still, why did I assume that they would act like characters from isekai novels? Basically they also could be like a typical knight from the middle ages of earth.

And at that moment I was wearing my usual clothes, a grey hoodie, a long-sleeved shirt beneath it and black jeans. Needless to say, trainer shoes, underwear and socks too.

Surely these clothes would seem strange.. and if I remember correctly things which seemed strange would be considered “suspicious”.

People were afraid of things which they don’t know or understand, so they rather destroy them.

Well, that's what history taught us at least.

Oh damn it, they could maybe treat me as witch!

If you made your homework, you know those who were suspected as witches didn’t had a good time at all.

They were tormented which forced the suspects to confess, basically a wrong confession in the hope the pain would finally stop.

Sadly, after the confession they were officially witches which lead to an even more painful death.

Yup, even if some “revenge isekai novels” have plenty of sadism and torture in them, good’old history won’t stay behind them at all.

As I was spacing out and expecting one of the worst possible outcomes, one of the guards approached me and asked.

“Boy, you seem pale, are you okay?” (Guard)

Boy? Am I really in a japanese novel right now? Well, let’s ignore that for now and think about a good answer.

“Ah… yeees, uhm.. please guide me to the [Adventure Guild] I’m kinda lost..” (Anoki)

And like that I blurted out my plan to go to the [Adventure Guild], but my fear that we don’t speak the same language which would lead to a story with the damn language barrier were gone.

“Sure, follow me Boy! You seem scrawny but you could also be the next A-Rank adventurer, your clothes are all dark and strange,  maybe you are a wizard-apprentice from another country who preferred only a certain [Dark-Attribute Spell], for that reason you wear only dark clothes! Surely you dream too to become an adventurer and get famous. You would get maybe a cool title like “The Shadow Mage” or something and everyone would know you. Let me tell’ya I was also once an adventurer, it’s a dangerous life, but I enjoyed it to my fullest, I will give you my whole support!” (Guard)

And like that, all my other fears disappeared too, someone really granted my wish, this was indeed one of those worlds which I loved to read in my novels. Even the damn dialogue with the guard feels familiar!
