The Tail of a Dragon
The Road Ahead 3

The Road Ahead 3

Night began to settle as the dragon awoke from its much needed nap. It felt manifolds stronger in comparison to before. It remember Draiguk and how he’d gotten away. This pissed it off. The dragon had an ambition to kill Draiguk now, and it would stop at nothing to quench its thirst. It flapped its wings and tried to fly, resulting in its temporary glide before it came crashing back down to the ground.

Some things just never change do they? The dragon resorted to walking, it had no recollection of where it had come from though. So it instead just decided to walk away from Lady Roosta’s mansion, because anywhere is better than captivity. The road ahead led to the town where the dragon had originally been taken, yet it didn’t know this as it blindly walked toward the confinements of the outer village.

The forest around the trail began to thin as farmlands came into view, along with the cottages of the farmers. Crickets and bugs began to chime as night set in even more. The dragon couldn’t see very well, but it strained its eyes to see the colors more clearly. The images flowed in a little more clearly as the dragon trampled over some crops. It had no knowledge of paths, and would go wherever it felt like of course.

A young woman was standing outside on her porch as she admired the stars that came into perspective. She made a fatal mistake not to notice the dragon who was trampling her crops. Furthermore, she was singing a tune in a nice hum. The hum was not so nice to the dragon who had a bad taste in his mouth when it came to humans. Not that they didn’t taste good, just that he preferred to be alone rather than with humans.

The woman with brown goldilocks of hair noticed the dragon just shy of her porch and immediately screamed. “Oh my god! Shane! Get out here, it-it’s a dragon!” She screamed, hiding behind the rocking chair that had been handcrafted. “Shane please help!” She begged. The dragon felt enraged that a creature could make such a disgusting noise. It crept up the steps like a slithering snake.

A bare-chested man came out with a pitch fork, “Back up! Get down!” He screamed, stabbing the fork at the dragon’s torso, only for it to bounce off of the hardened scales. Shane’s bones were shaking from the ricocheted impact. “Damnit all to hell! I’ve never seen a dragon in my life, how come I see one now!?” He asked himself. Shane tried to scoop the dragon up with the pitch fork and chunk him off the porch, but it failed. The dragon leapt up onto Shane’s chest, prying its claws into his muscle mass and biting deeply into the hind of his neck.

The teeth were sharp and carnivorous, sinking deep into the raw meat of the living man. The dragon used its jaws to pry the meat together and rip it from its tether. “Oh shit!” Shane whimpered and let out a hell-hurdling scream as he came toppling to the ground. He couldn’t force the dragon off of him, but instead helped the dragon swallow a parcel of his own meat. A gashing hole was left in the man’s neck as blood gushed out. He began to die as his wife had already started to run through the field and away from the cottage.

English Dragon

The dragon couldn’t read anything that the prompts had been saying thus far, so it couldn’t decide between two choices confidently. All it knew was that it wanted to eat, therefore, he needed to make the screen disappear by choosing one of the options available to him. The dragon clicked one of the choices and something clicked in its brain.

The dragon could grasp many new things. One, these red prompt were trying to ‘tell’ it something important. It was trying to tell it something with the concept of words. Two, languages were a good thing and he needed more of them to understand this world. All of this was something it wanted to keep in mind.

As it feasted on the man’s corpse, it remembered what the human had said before his eventful death. “Sziyat!” The dragon said. It attempted at mocking the man’s words while it consumed the man itself. While it was a disappointing attempt at mocking him, the dragon had made a major milestone in language. It had spoken its very first word.

Shane’s wife was now over the horizon, her shamefulness would forever be remembered until she was attacked by some goblins later in the night. The dragon cascaded itself in the blood of Shane’s corpse, burrowing deep inside until it found the rich organs and consumed them fully. The dragon was now full, leaving Shane mutilated on the porch.

Tommy’s POV:

Tommy had gotten used to carrying the load of the junk in his arms after a few minutes of struggle. He followed the strong, masculine Griggs. They were travelling along the path until they found a fresh scene of murder alongside the road. Several men lay dead and mutilated, half were in the forest and half were on the path. Blood trails were spewed all over the place and the familiar track of a dragon’s paw was clearly made in the sand.

“Oh god.” Tommy said, dropping the junk onto the ground and vomiting vehemently. Griggs simply ignored the sordid man, and began searching the scene for more clues. “I found something.” Griggs pointed to a hot pile of poop. “I’ll have to taste it to make sure it’s that of a dragon’s.” Griggs crouched down beside the pile of droppings.

Unlawfully taken from Royal Road, this story should be reported if seen on Amazon.

Tommy barely had time to recover from his vomiting session before Griggs decided to eat the shit, but luckily he had made it in time. He grabbed Grigg’s wrist right before he touched the poop. “I’m sure its the dragon Griggs, are you fucking stupid? You see all of these dead men and you see a dragon’s footprints and you need to eat its shit to verify?!” Tommy exclaimed, he stomped his shoe into the shit with an angry expression plastered across his face. “Are you even a silver-medallion beast-hunter or not?” He asked.

Griggs stood up with a serious expression. “Yeah I am, let’s go smartass. Carry this too.” Griggs said, throwing another bag upon Tommy to carry. He was clearly offended by Tommy’s harsh words.

Tommy cringed at the thought of carrying more. “Curse you damn dragon!” He said, picking up both sacks and carrying them the best he could. They left the scene and began to follow the dragon tracks closely.

Dragon’s POV:

The dragon was far from the cottage now, in the middle of the field with nothing but crops around it. Well...that and the sounds of a screaming woman and laughing goblins, but the dragon had no interest in such things. It simply sought knowledge and power. Which this boring field contained none of.

The dragon could see a bunch of square objects standing out of the ground in the distance. They had triangular tops and mellow colors. It was obvious that something ‘living’ had been the works of these creations.

The dragon was stuffed to the brim with human flesh, but that didn’t stop it from its ambitious goals! It wanted to fly, so it would try flying again! The dragon flapped its wings against the ground and took off. The wind felt nice against the dragon, its wings fluttering up and down and to the...ground. SMACHK.

It gave up on trying to fly again, but the dragon’s wings felt a little sturdier and its body felt lighter after that last prompt. The dragon stumbled to its feet and waddled off to the little town in which it had came from. Darkness had consumed the sky, and the moon was almost full. The dragon ventured into the town’s construct.

The dragon wagged its tail like a dog as it caught the whiff of something delicious. The remedy for gluttony was the aroma of something delicious after all, and this dragon was no stranger to gluttony. It followed the smell until it found the dead remains of a lynched man. The man was old and feeble looking, his pale skin insinuated he’d been dead for a few hours at the minimum.

In reality, the dragon was still too young to remember much from many days before. This man had once saved the life of the red dragon, and he was now the dinner of his own business. The dragon greedily bit at the man's legs as if it were trying to taste a sour version of candy. The candy being human flesh. Herald’s old flesh was succulent in some spots, but rather taint in others.

The dragon found it to be an okay taste, but it preferred the taste of fresh human flesh. Herald’s legs were left partially missing as the dragon fed on his bottom half. The corrupt nature of this town had led to Herald’s unfortunate execution. The man had never been exactly loved anyways.

The knights had gotten their way after all, obtaining the final laugh in a hot debate of morality that never existed. This was the law of the land, pay up or die. The Duke’s laws were morbid but effective, his tight grasp on the people was a surefire way of harboring power over his rivals.

The dragon could hear laughter emanating from the inside of one of the buildings, “Haha! That damn old man was so obsessed with dragons--I was so glad I got the honor to hang that bastard!” A man said. The building erupted in laughter. The smell of alcohol was potent to the dragon. It sensed danger nearby.

“Ahahah! You know that old fart has a daughter right? We should go pay her a visit tonight after we get our share of drinks! Isn’t that right bartender?” The blonde knight said through the window, his drunken state leaned over the counter as he made explicit eye contact with the lady bartender. “Or would you rather have a good time with us?” He put his hand on her chin as she rubbed a glass.

“N-No! Go have fun with someone else, just keep your hands off of me.” She said in a timid voice, turning away from the drunk men. The blonde knight frowned as he stepped down and sat back in his chair with a wobble in his step.

“Some girls just ain’t fun. Well what d’ya say boys? Cheers to old-man’s daughter!” He said with a hiccup. The other men screamed, putting their glasses into the air and cheering for the fun times ahead for them.

That would be the case if a certain red dragon hadn’t been pissed off by the jovial sounds of humans once more. After all of the flesh it had eaten, the dragon burped a flame geyser into the wooden framework of the building. The wood caught the fire with relative ease as it began to silently spread from underneath. Apparently burping calmed the dragon down, as it had long forgotten about the men inside.

Fire-Breathing Level 2 Unlocked!

The underside of the inn began to catch fire, and smoke began to rise. The smell of burning wood was strong and suddenly filled the nostrils of the Duke’s knights. “Hey-hey! Something’s burning!” A knight shouted, and the room immediately erupted in confusion. Some denied the initial evaluations, while others supported his theory. They soon recognized flames swallowing the building whole and the room erupted into a large fire.

The knights were so drunk that they could barely walk, most of them stumbled out of the inn while a few others tried to extinguish the flames with elemental magic. The bartender stood behind the blonde knight outside as the building lit up the sky with a bright light. “Arkion, what sick fuck would do this?!” A knight screamed to the blonde-headed knight.

Arkion looked around for a culprit as the other knights began to sober up. They quickly worked on extinguishing the flames until Arkion’s eyes met the eyes of another creature. The red dragon watched curiously as he fed on Herald’s lower half. Those innocent eyes were almost comical to Arkion. “You son of a bitch.”
