Chapter 9: Evil Society, Internal Division, Minseo's Twisted Thoughts

The Evil Society is a dark and formidable force within the martial world, feared and loathed by many.

Rooted in chaos and destruction, it thrived on the suffering and subjugation of others.

The organization was structured around twelve Great Clans, each holding immense power and influence.

These clans were not just families but institutions in their own right, commanding legions of warriors and resources.

At the pinnacle of this hierarchy sat the Society Leader, Yeon Gwang-Soo, a shadowy figure whose name alone sent shivers down the spine of even the bravest souls.

Directly beneath the leader was the position of Deputy Head, a role fiercely contested due to the immense power and authority it conferred.

The twelve Great Clans constantly vied for dominance, their leaders scheming and plotting to gain favor and secure higher standing.

However, the Evil Society was not without its internal strife.

Recently, a schism had formed, dividing the clans into two factions.

This rift was primarily fueled by the ambitions of two powerful martial masters, each seeking to claim the position of Deputy Head after Kang Hyun-Woo, the previous holder, was gravely injured in a clash against the Demonic Cult.

The title of Deputy Head was more than just a rank; it was a promise of unparalleled power and influence within the Society.

One of the factions was led by the ferocious and cunning Blood Clan, known for their ruthlessness and strategic brilliance.

Their leader, Yi Seong-Hun, was a man of immense ambition, determined to consolidate his power and eliminate any threats to his ascension.

The other faction, led by the formidable Sin Clan, had their own designs on the Deputy Head position, led by the equally ambitious Jung Sae-Jin.

Amid this turbulent backdrop was Han Minseo, the daughter of the head of the Spring Clan, one of the weaker but still significant clans within the Society.

Minseo was born into the Spring Clan, a relatively weak but still influential clan within the Evil Society.

Her father, Han Jungsoo, was the patriarch of the Spring Clan, known for his strategic mind and moderate approach to chaos.

Despite the brutal nature of the society, Jungsoo maintained a certain level of discipline within his clan, focusing on controlled and strategic actions rather than sheer destruction.

His clan had long been under the shadow of the more dominant clans, struggling to maintain their foothold.

In spite of this, Han Jungsoo was a proud and honorable man who instilled in his daughter a sense of resilience and sly.

During a mission to Cheonghae Province, Minseo was paired with Im Seungho, the son of Im Jongho, the deputy leader of the Madness Clan.

Their task was to conquer a specific area and expand the Evil Society's influence.

The mission initially proceeded smoothly, their combined might overwhelming any resistance they encountered.

However, as they secured the area, Seungho's true intentions began to surface.

Captivated by Minseo's beauty, he grew increasingly aggressive in his advances.

His lustful gaze and unwanted attentions became more pronounced, making Minseo uncomfortable and wary.

She tried to avoid confrontation, focusing on their mission, but Seungho's persistence only intensified.

One night, as they rested in a captured village, Seungho's aggression reached a boiling point. He cornered Minseo, his intentions clear. In a desperate bid to protect herself, Minseo fought back.

The struggle was fierce, and despite her skills, Seungho's strength and rage made it a daunting battle.

Eventually, in a brutal and desperate clash, Minseo managed to fatally wound him, but not without sustaining injuries herself.

Wounded and shaken, Minseo made her way back to Sichuan City, one of the Evil Society's stronghold.

The Madness Clan was aligned with the Blood Clan, while the Spring Clan supported the Sin Clan.

She knew that the repercussions of her actions would be severe.

The Spring Clan and the Madness Clan both had a presence in Sichuan city because this location has a strategical advantage.

Thus, the Evil Society sent them here to ensure that it wouldn't be taken over by enemy forces.

The power dynamics here were heavily skewed in favor of the Madness Clan due to it being stronger than the Spring Clan.

When Minseo reported the incident to her father, Han Jungsoo, he understood the gravity of the situation.

The Madness Clan, led by Seungho's father, Im Jongho, would undoubtedly seek vengeance.

True to form, Im Jongho's rage was immediate and unrestrained.

He demanded Minseo's life as recompense for his son's death, declaring her a murderer.

Han Jungsoo, despite his determination to protect his daughter, knew that the Spring Clan could not withstand the might of the Madness Clan.

Desperate to save Minseo, he orchestrated her escape from Sichuan City.

Unfortunately for Minseo and her father, the Spring Clan was too weak against the Madness Clan which gave way for two of their elite warriors to have the liberty of chasing after her.

Minseo fled, pursued unceasingly by two elite warriors from the Madness Clan, hell-bent on avenging their fallen master's son.

The chase led Minseo into the depths of the wilderness, her wounds slowing her down but her will to survive pushing her forward.

It was during this desperate flight that she stumbled upon Tianfeng, her path of deception and survival intertwining with his quest for justice.

As Minseo's past caught up with her, the true test of her cunning and resolve began.

The pursuit by the Madness Clan's warriors was relentless, their hatred burning brightly.

Yet, amid the chaos and deception, Minseo harbored a darker secret – her decision to report Tianfeng to the Evil Society, a move driven by a desire for self-preservation and a cunning bid to regain favor within the fractured organization.

Back to the current moment...

The night after the fierce battle was filled with an eerie calm.

Tianfeng, his body aching from the injuries he sustained, lay in a makeshift bed of leaves, trying to get some rest.

Minseo, her mind racing with thoughts of survival and betrayal, saw an opportunity in the stillness of the night.

Minseo waited until Tianfeng was deeply asleep before making her move. She carefully reached into her satchel and pulled out a small, intricately carved wooden box.

This box contained a specially trained pigeon, a prized possession among the spies of the Evil Society.

The pigeon was no ordinary bird. It had been bred and trained to find its way back to the Evil Society's headquarters from anywhere within a thousand miles.

Attached to its leg was a tiny, hollow tube designed to carry messages.

Minseo extracted a thin strip of parchment and a vial of ink from her belongings.

She quickly scribbled a message in a coded language known only to the upper echelons of the Evil Society:

"Location: Wilderness near Sichuan City. I have found the one responsible for our members' deaths and I request amnesty in exchange for his capture.

- Han Minseo of the Spring Clan."

Carefully, she rolled up the parchment and inserted it into the tube on the pigeon's leg.

With a deep breath, she opened the box and allowed the pigeon to hop out.

The pigeon, sensing the urgency of its mission, took flight into the night sky, its wings beating silently as it disappeared into the darkness.

As the pigeon flew towards its destination, Minseo returned to the cave and checked on Tianfeng.

He was still fast asleep, unaware of the treachery unfolding around him.

It turns out that while Tianfeng was ruthlessly killing members of the Evil Society during his journey around Sichuan, the higher-ups were already keeping track of the casualties and were alarmed.

The unexpected losses had stirred a sense of urgency among the leaders, leading them to dispatch elite operatives to uncover the source of the threat.

However, due to the quick deaths of the members, tracking the culprit had proven difficult.

The elite operatives had little information to go on, and the trails often went cold before they could gather any substantial leads.

Minseo’s message, once it arrived, would provide a crucial breakthrough. The higher-ups in the Evil Society, upon receiving it, would likely feel a mix of relief and urgency.

The prospect of eliminating a dangerous adversary like Tianfeng would be seen as a top priority, preventing further casualties and maintaining their control.

Minseo’s decision to betray Tianfeng was driven by her deep-rooted ties to the Evil Society. Despite the danger she faced, she couldn't abandon the place where she was raised in.

She believed that delivering Tianfeng, who posed a substantial threat to the Evil Society, would offset her punishment for the death of Im Seungho.

By offering Tianfeng's capture as compensation, Minseo hoped to secure her own safety and prove her loyalty.

She knew that eliminating such a formidable enemy would be seen as a valuable contribution, potentially sparing her from the dire consequences she faced.
