Jaff, a red headed boy slung on his school bag, put on his brown hiking shoes with the black laces and looked excitedly at the Summon Battle entry poster hanging on the wall. The image of Izium, the world's current best Summoner with one of his Summons, The great green dragon Axem, fighting side by side filled Jaff with so much emotion that he struggled to fight back his tears.
Jaff was now fifteen and was finally at the age where he could get his first Shard Bracelet, a device that would allow him to transport himself to a world called Estoria to begin his journey of becoming Earth’s best summoner.
LORE ITEM:
“Shard Bracelet” - A bracelet that has a purple shard in its center used to teleport humans to the world of Estoria. The Shard Bracelet has 5 slots with one red shard already fixed into one of these slots. These slots represent the amount of summons that can be teleported into Earth.
A human can only teleport to Estoria or back to Earth every 24 hours.
Summons can be Summoned if a Shard in a Shard Bracelet has been charged or otherwise every hour.
The Summon Battles were a series of tournaments that allowed participants to make summon contracts with the inhabitants of the world of Estoria and then battle alongside those summons.
“Jaff, are you ready? You’ll be late for school” A woman's voice shouted from another room.
“Coming mum!” Jaff responded as he opened his bedroom door.
Jaff raced down the stairs and grabbed a pancake off a stack from the kitchen bench and scoffed it down as fast as he could.
“Slow down hon, you’ll get sick if you eat like that.” Jaff’s mum said as Jaff picked up another pancake.
Jaff looked at his mum. Brunette hair, brown eyes. Jaff never knew how he got the red hair. His mum always said that he was called Jaff because he looked like a lolly when he was a baby. Eitherway, he grew up with the name and today wasn’t the day for him to contemplate this. Today was a day that Jaff knew he needed the energy. Today was the day he will be given his first Shard Bracelet. And that's all that mattered right now.
“Let's go mum!” Jaff said as he reached for the front door with a pancake in his mouth and another in his other hand.
“Wait for your little brother. Chris hurry up.” Jaff’s mum shouted towards the stairs.
Jaff also then looked up the stairs as the loud thudding of his little brother's feet could be heard.
“Coming!” Chris shouted back as he raced down the stairs.
Chris was twelve, his school bag so large that Jaff thought it was almost the same size as him. Chris looked normal to Jaff, brown hair, brown eyes and very similar features to his mum.
Jaff watched as Chris reached for some of the pancakes on the stack.
“Bring me some more.” Jaff said as he rushed outside of the house and towards the car.
The car came to a stop at the front of Jaff’s school. Jaff watched as one of the yellow school buses stopped to drop off a group of students. Jaff heard a bell ring from a distance. This bell would usually signify roll call, however, Jaff knew that today his grade will be partaking in their first Summoner induction. A training for new Summoners.
“Oh no, we are going to be late. Bye mum!” Jaff said as he hastily jumped out of the car.
“Come here and give me a kiss.” Mum responded with her window down.
“Mum!” Jaff said in embarrassment.
Stolen from its original source, this story is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.
“Jaff! Now!”
Jaff sighed as both he and Chris moved to the driver's side of the car to give their mum a kiss on the cheek.
“Good luck today Jaff. I love you. I am also trying to be a brave mum but I am still scared. Deciding to be a summoner is a dangerous profession.” Jaff’s mum said as he leaned into the car to kiss her cheek.
“I know mum. But I can’t die in Estoria while I have my bracelet on. I will just get transported back to Earth”.
“But if you lose your bracelet…”
“Mum, I won’t lose it” Jaff interrupted as he ran towards the school gates.
Students in their white shirts with red stripes around the edges of the sleeves bustled around the large stone fountain and towards the three story old sandstone buildings.
This is it, Jaff thought as he looked up at the golden metal arched gates with the dragon crested logo with the words of Lordthorn High School inscribed underneath.
“Hey Jaff!” A voice boomed out from inside the school gates.
Jaff noticed a girl with long dusty blonde hair and bright blue eyes. She was wearing the typical school uniform. The white button up collar shirt with Lordthorn logo on the side pocket and a red and black checkered skirt.
“Oh, hey Lexi!” Jaff responded as he approached her.
Jaff thought she looked attractive as ever but he was only ever friend zoned. She seemed to have latched onto him for reasons unknown to him. He didn’t care though, he could only ever think of doing one thing when he grew up and that was becoming a Summoner. Besides, Lexi was quite popular at school so he always thought that it made him look good with her around.
“Oh no, Drakes coming this way.” Lexi sneered.
Lexi turned to Jaff, her blue eyes widened.
At one stage, Lexi and Drake had dated. Jaff always thought that Lexi could have done better. To Jaff, this wouldn’t have been hard to do considering how much of an asshole he thought Drake was.
“Pretend we are talking so he doesn’t talk to me.” Lexi requested.
Jaff first looked at Lexi with confusion until what she asked had been processed. Jaff then suddenly let out an obnoxious laugh.
“You're so funny Lexi!” Jaff said loudly as he laughed.
Lexi, embarrassed by Jaff’s reaction, stood as straight as possible while she shook her head in an effort to get Jaff to stop.
“Too much!” Lexi whispered under her breath as Drake walked towards them.
Drake was a stocky boy with short blonde hair and blue eyes. His school uniform always appeared perfectly iron and tailored to fit and he always had on the school tie with the red angled stripes and the golden dragon emblem. The tie wasn’t a compulsory part of the school uniform so Jaff always thought it was Drakes way of showing off.
Drake approached and without saying a word, He grabbed Jaff by the arm and twisted it around Jaffs back to lock it in place.
“Well, well, well. Hitting on Lexi again are we?” Drake said in an aggressive voice as he lifted Jaffs arm in an uncomfortable position that made Jaff squirm in pain.
“Get off me Drake!” Jaff cried out as he forcefully squirmed himself free.
“Drake stop!” Lexi ordered as she moved herself between the two boys.
“Don’t even know why you come to this school. You’re a plainy with no Summons, skills or stats to even inherit. Just a dirty plainy!” Drake sneered.
LORE WORD:
“Plainy” - A derogatory term for a person of Earth who is not a descendant of a Summoner family bloodline.
“The fact that you can even show your face at this school, especially today of all days, makes me and everyone else at this school sick!” Drake continued.
Lexi stepped side to side as Drake attempted to lash out at Jaff. Drake then stopped and took a step back with a mocking grin on his face.
“Look, you can’t even protect yourself. Need a girl to do it for you.” Drake menacingly snapped as a crowd began to form.
“That's enough Drake!” A deep voice interrupted.
Jaff looked over to see a tanned burly male with a long gray and white beard. The man was well over six feet tall wearing a singlet that had a gray cloak attached to it and short shorts that made his large quads stand out. The cloak included the gold school emblem in the center and a red striped border. The man was holding a large golden scepter with a Shard Bracelet hosting a full array of glistening red Summoner Shards. His arms were also exposed showing striations running from forearm to bicep.
“Sorry Professor Gibben.” Drake conceded.
“Jaff, Lexi, off to your first Summoner induction. Drake, you’ll first be coming with me.” Professor Gibben commanded.
“Yes Professor” All three seemingly said at the same time.
