Chapter 1. Legacy of stone

Chapter 1. Legacy of stone

With everything black you would think that you couldn't detect motion but it turns out not only is that sense unimpaired but moving at high speed with no vision feels quite a bit more disorienting. After seeing the strange words about the system Peter felt like the floor dropped out from underneath of him and he was rocketed downwards with his stomach climbing up in his throat like an amusement park tower drop.

This continued for what felt like an eternity but probably was only 10-15 seconds when he suddenly found himself sitting in a chair in an all white room with an expansive empty desk in front of him. Taking a deep shuddering breath and trying to deal with his spinning brain, Peter tried to think through what was happening but couldn't get an farther than the mental equivalent of a computer blue screen of death where all processing stopped.

The room was quite large but as he looked closer he realized that every wall and the floor and ceiling were made of bright white but rough cut stone and the desk in front of him had the cool touch of marble.

At that moment the air seemed to warp on the other side of the desk and glow a deep cherry red when another chair and person popped into existence. Rather than a normal sized person this new arrival seemed built to intimidate with hulking shoulders and size that made you think of strongman pulling firetrucks and throwing massive weights around like they were made out of cardboard. He had a deep red beard with a white shirt and deep blue business suit that looked like it belonged on a lawyer tv show, with a small pair of wire frame glasses which covered an intense set of eyes. The most unusual aspect about him though was that he had hair thin threads of dark marbling that ran throughout his face and hands

Unsure what was going on Peter stammered out a "Hello? What.... Who.... Where...." and then trailed of as he realized he had so little context that even framing the questions were hard.

"Are you a Von Brave?", the man asked.

"no..., My name is peter and I am a human.."

"You are clearly not human otherwise you wouldn't be here. Don't play coy, if one of the guilds has been hiding a prince, it wouldn't be the first time. Not even the first time they have slipped up and had a prince transition without protection to prevent discovery. I am willing to bet most of the guilds have a hidden royal or two hiding out on earth right now."

"Everyone likes to have a backup plan if the infighting gets to intense and the financial penalties are trivial enough that they can probably pay it out of petty cash so just own up to it right now or I will have to be forced to let the system take you and dump you as a level 1. It will be dangerous and dump and I know that your guardians would rather you admit to it now than let me cast you off to the mercy of the system. So I ask again are you a Von Brave?"

"Perhaps a Hidden Guard? A Crushed Fist? or even an unnamed upstart guild?", the man continued to question but then trailed off at the confusion and open mouth of Peter.

"I don't have any idea where I am and I think I am a human and would really like to go back to my apartment now. Can you help me? Or at least tell me what in the world is going on?" Peter at first was totally lost for words but was starting to get so confused that the questions were just spilling out.

"Did you kidnap me? What is the system and why is it taking me? Who in the world are you and why do you think I'm not human, and for that matter what in the world are you if you aren't human". He petered out and then just stared at the man while the man seemed to frown and take a mental step back.

They both stared for a second before the man roared with laughter, " You are the closest to pulling it off I have ever seen, everyone always slips and betrays some kinda of knowledge or gets offended when I imply their elders screwed up and that they need to quickly come clean. Fine lets play chicken then and count down. In order to be rescued I require the name of your clan or elder or I am going to let you survive on the mercy of the system without any of the resources a young royal like you would normally expect."

The man concentrated for a bit and then with some handmotions seemed to watching some hidden screen that Peter couldn't see and then a massive countdown appeared in the air over the table. "Once the countdown starts I can't help you unless you confess to a violation of the accords to register all new royals, so I am going to start this and you are going to learn that even royals have to surrender sometime."

Ejecting new participant to safari starting area 10... 9... 8...

With an expectant look the man looked back to Peter, " You will probably die a fairly painful death if you can't get me some answers quickly"

7... 6... 5...

With a shock and the blood quickly draining from his face Peter leaped to his feet, "I don't know anything you are talking about and I don't want to die, please at least tell me why I am going to die!"

4... 3...

With a frown the main quickly yelled, " I won't stop the countdown only rescue you if you answer, you are going to die because you are a stubborn royal"

2... 1...

As the man's face slowly morphed into shock, he yelled "If you are for real I am....

Darkness again took Peter as he hurtled through black void and suddenly found himself standing in the middle of a vast rolling grassland with chest high grass and harsh sunlight beating down on him.

In a solid stone room far away words hung in the air as they weren't quite fast enough to be heard.

...sorry and don't move while we send a rescue crew"
