Chapter 7: His treasure

Chapter 7: His treasure

Second half of Emir.

It has been two whole Diem since the raid incident and Ellen had been living with Lord Vier and his subordinates. For once, she could roam about the mansion as she pleased, not confined in her own chambers, and especially not restricted by an invisible chain. Which makes Ellen to ponder how unusual it was for her to be imprisoned by her once great grandfather. But it did not matter anymore as she had known the reason.

The other spirits in the household gradually came to accept her existence within the mansion and began to approach her with less hostile intent. After some point in time, all of them eventually got along. Ellen had been alone most of times and felt rather lonely so she was happy to be able to befriend the other spirits. Ellen still sensed some suspicious glances from some of the spirits but it did not bother her anymore.

But one time, one of the spirits, Balamore, could not stand it and began to squeeze her tight and rub her cheeks in ecstasy due to her adorableness, as claimed by Vier. Ellen was shocked when she was first attacked. After that, she would sometimes become a “victim” to the spirits for various reasons. Ellen could not helped but asked for Vier’s help most of times to escape from their grasp.

It was late Emir, and Ellen was puffing her cheeks in contempt due to the other spirits’ behavior towards her. She was hiding away behind Vier and relentlessly complained. Vier simply sighed and chuckled from time to time. They were in Vier’s office as he viewed a bundle of reports he received from his subordinates sometimes revealing a rather troubled look.

The news of the fallen Spirit Lord had spread throughout the spirits realm and many great-spirits and other spirit households had investigated the matter urgently as the new Spirit Lord needs to be recognized, acknowledged and crowned, assuming the Spirit Lords’ duties and responsibilities.

One of the Spirit Lords’ major duties is to protect the lower spirits and weaker spirits from evil spirits as well as spirit demon beasts. Evil spirit are intelligent spirits that are power hungry and tend to consume other spirits to gain more power, while spirit demon beasts are divided into two categories, those with intelligence and those with none.

Those with intelligence are powerful demon spirit beasts and marked their own territories in the spirit realm only acting hostile to those that dare to trespass or antagonize them. They do not attack lower spirits and live in isolation. Non-intelligent demon spirit beasts on the other hand are just like wild beasts that attacked any and anyone that are weaker than them as prey.

With the absence of the Spirit Lord, these demon spirit beasts are running rampant throughout the realm thus ensued insecurity among the weaker spirits. Of course, many spirit household have strong firepower to protect their respective territories but eventually, they will need the Spirit Lord to stop or reduce the rampaging beasts from attacking their settlements and give protection to weaker spirits.

From the reports, Vier could not help but rub his temples in worry. There were many settlements that had fallen victim to demon spirit beasts and many weaker spirits had sought protection from nearby spirit household even if temporarily.

Vier did not want to assume such heavy responsibilities but he could not help but think that he had to reveal himself as the new Spirit Lord soon in order to restore the peace of the spirit realm. The problem was, he was not very confident in his skills in management. Also, he does not dare to hastily announce his claim to the throne with his suspicions in the present circumstances.

His concentration broke when a voice beside him interrupted him.

[Hey, were you even listening?] Ellen pouted.

[Hmm? Yeah.] Vier simply said and patted Ellen’s head in defeat.

Looking at Ellen, he thought back again of the time when he attacked the palace. He was consumed by hatred and rage and killed without mercy. But when he found Ellen, his mind went blank. The long lost emotions that he once had, sadness, happiness and love returned to him almost instantly.

Before that, he was nothing but a vessel of hatred and monstrosity fueled with revenge towards the deceased Spirit Lord that had acted an atrocious deed against his family. None would dare to cross him. It took him many years to accumulate his strength and get his revenge. Now, he simply wants to protect what was in front of him. His most priceless treasure, Ellen.
