Ethan began to look at his hands. They had the strongest and darkest shadow flames. Apparently, Ethan had evolved the shadow blotting ability into a small blaster ball, but he couldn't test it in his own room, as it might cause an accident.
He picked up his cell phone, looking at the time, as he wanted to go out into the alley again, to train his powers.
It was getting late, so he decided to heat up some soup for Enid and as soon as she fell asleep, he would sneak out.
Ethan went downstairs and warmed the soup. He went upstairs to Enid's room and opened the door carefully, seeing that his mother was awake but still half-asleep.
"Mom? Are you hungry?" Ethan said, opening the door carefully.
"Hi, Ethan! I'm glad you brought the soup. I was starving!" Enid said, getting ready for bed.
Ethan came into the room and put the soup on a tray so that his mother could eat it on the bed. He helped her get on the bed and handed her the soup.
"Here you go!" Ethan said.
Enid started to eat the soup, which looked delicious.
"Hm, it looks great! Aren't you going to eat it?". Enid asked him.
"Oh, I had some cookies, but then I'll eat dinner!". Ethan said, not feeling hungry at all.
Enid continued to drink her soup. With each spoonful, Enid closed her eyes, delighting in the taste of the soup.
When Ethan finished, he helped Enid go to the bathroom to brush her teeth, as she was feeling a little dizzy, and carried her back to bed.
He covered his mother with the blanket and made sure that the window was tightly closed so that no wind could get in that might make his mother's situation worse, since she seemed to be running a fever.
"I'm going to stay here with you until you sleep!". Ethan said, wanting to make sure she was sound asleep when he left.
"No need, son! It's okay!". Enid said, with a gentle smile, as Ethan turned off all the lights and left only one lampshade on the side.
"I'll stay here, relax!". Ethan insisted, as he pulled an armchair close to the bed and held Enid's hand, petting her.
Enid smiled and closed her eyes, to sleep.
A few minutes later, Ethan realized that Enid had fallen asleep. He began to look at his mother's face as he fiddled with his own necklace with one hand. She was still too pale, and she looked sickly.
Ethan felt sorry for leaving her like that, but he couldn't think of anything he could do, until he remembered that he had self-regeneration. Maybe he could heal his mother somehow, but he was too weak still to be able to influence the person at all.
It was then that he stopped fiddling with the necklace, realizing what he had in hand. Since the necklace carried the shadow energy in it, maybe if he put the necklace on his mother and concentrated to control the right power, he could get the necklace to heal his mother.
Ethan bent forward, looking at his mother's face, trying to see if she was really asleep.
Then he took the necklace from her neck and gently placed it around Enid's neck, praying that she wouldn't wake up. When he was finished, he sat down again in the armchair beside the bed and held Enid's hand. He quietly turned off the lamp and closed his eyes, concentrating on the energy coming from the darkness.
For some reason, Enid's room managed to be darker than Ethan's, which meant that he was able to gather more energy from the shadows than usual.

Ethan began to feel the thick dark smoke embracing him as it normally did, along with a rush of air surrounding his entire body. He looked at Enid, but she was still the same, just sleeping.
He concentrated on regenerating his own body, as if he wanted to heal himself. Ethan's eyes began to get brighter and brighter as if they were being illuminated, and only his eyes could be seen in the darkness.
About an hour later, Ethan began to feel the draft rising in his body, but something was different. The air current seemed to be being sucked out of his body, heading toward Enid.
He looked down at her hand, which was beginning to be surrounded by shadow particles.
For a moment, Ethan began to wonder if this might cause some problems for her in the future, but he wanted to keep trying to make this work.
As he did this, Ethan looked at Enid's face. She was still pale and sickly. It was as if nothing was taking effect, even though he kept at it for hours.
- Maybe I can't save people, only make them sick..." Ethan thought, relaxing in his chair, causing him to stop concentrating his energy, and the shadow particles slowly faded away.
Ethan ended up leaning his head back in his chair and falling asleep, still holding his mother's hand.
And so the night passed.
Ethan began to feel a warm light bothering his face. He woke up, a little confused about where he was. He saw that the window of Enid's room was open, and the sun was streaming in, disturbing Ethan's sleep.
He looked over at his mother's bed and realized that Enid was no longer there.
Ethan quickly got up, confused, and walked to the bathroom, looking for Enid, however, she was not there either.
"Mom?" Ethan yelled from the stairs, looking downstairs.
"I'm down here!". Enid shouted back.
Ethan ran downstairs, desperate, as he knew his mother was not being able to walk very well because she was dizzy.
Then he came across Enid in front of the stove, preparing scrambled eggs.
"Mom! What are you doing? You should be in bed!". As Ethan said it, he looked down at the table and saw the necklace he had tied to her hand. He froze for a moment. The necklace was in its normal color again, but all stretched out on the table, as if his mother wanted him to see the necklace.
"Where did you find this, Ethan?" Enid said.
When Ethan looked at his mother, he realized that she was radiant. Her skin color was healthy again, and it didn't look like Enid had been sick the day before, as if she had been totally healed.
- Wait, it worked? I was able to use my regeneration on her? But it doesn't make sense, I wasn't concentrating the energy on her... Did the necklace do it by itself? - He was impressed, forgetting to answer Enid.
"Ethan!" Enid replied, raising her voice.
"Huh? What? The necklace?". Ethan shook his head, snapping back to reality.
"Where did you find that? Answer me!". Enid seemed to be starting to get annoyed.
"I found it in your jewelry box!". Ethan replied, without hesitation. "What's the matter?". He asked.
"Why did you go through my stuff without permission? You know I don't like that!". Enid replied, irritated.
"I only took it because I wanted a necklace to go out with Alice. There's no big deal about that!". Ethan replied, raising his voice.
"And why didn't you give it back?". Enid replied, bluntly.
"Why are you acting like this?" Ethan asked, moving toward the necklace.
Enid pulled the necklace into her hand before he could take it.
"Tell me the truth! Why didn't you give it back?". Enid asked angrily.
"I just forgot! What's wrong with you? Is there something I can't know?". Ethan asked, running out of patience.
Enid was quiet for a few seconds as she rubbed the necklace on her fingers.
"Does that have anything to do... with Hayden?". Ethan asked, lifting his head.
"What are you talking about?" Enid asked, frowning.
"There was an 'H' written on the bag. It was Hayden's, wasn't it?" Ethan asked, approaching his mother.
Enid got serious, not knowing what to say.
"I already know he has something on me. Are you going to tell me the truth, or am I going to have to find out on my own?". Ethan asked, looking irritated at his mother.
"Where did you get that from, Ethan? I don't know who Hayden is!" Enid said, seriously. "Why the fuck did you even think of that name?" She added.
"Oh, so there's nothing?". Ethan asked confused.
"No!" Enid replied, firmly.
"That necklace doesn't matter at all, then?". Ethan asked, making a sad expression.
"No, Ethan, I just don't want you messing with my stuff like that!". Enid replied, firmly.
"Hm... I get it... Then give me back the necklace!". Ethan said, neutrally.
"Huh?" Enid was confused.
"What?". Ethan asked, raising his eyebrows. "You said you don't have anything. You were just upset because I went through your stuff. So give me back the necklace! I won't go through your things anymore if you give it to me. After all, it's an ordinary necklace, right?". Ethan teased.
Enid stood for, looking at Ethan for a few seconds, not knowing what to say.
"So...?". Ethan insisted.
