He went back to class and so the time passed, without any news. The bell rang again informing him that classes were over and Ethan started walking to the school exit.

On the way out, he sees Bella with her usual headphones on.

"Hi, Bella! Are you excited for tomorrow?". Ethan asked.

"Not too much!". Bella said, taking one side of the headphones off to listen to Ethan talk. "By the way, I texted my dad about the beach, and he took the opportunity and asked me to let you know he brought Enid to your house!". Bella completed, walking with Ethan to the parking lot.

"Huh?" Ethan was confused for a moment. "Do you think they might...". Ethan started to ask Bella.

"What?" Bella asked back, confused.

"... Be having something!". Ethan completed, half uncomfortable talking about it.

"No, no! I don't want to talk about it!". Bella replied, raising her index finger.

"Oh, it would be nice to have you as a little sister!". Ethan said, laughing.

Bella looked at Ethan, shrugging, and made her way to her car.

Ethan walked home, walking a little faster than usual, as he was worried about how Enid was doing.

As he arrived at the house, he noticed that Charlie's car was parked in front of his house, indicating that he must still be there.

Ethan entered the house, making an extreme noise with every step he took, so Charlie and Enid would be sure Ethan had arrived, and he wouldn't end up seeing something inappropriate.

"Your mother is here in the bedroom, Ethan!". Charlie shouted from upstairs.

Ethan went upstairs and saw his mother lying under some covers, with a bowl of soup next to her.

"Hi, mommy! Are you feeling better?" Ethan said, quickly approaching Enid, who was half asleep.

"I'm fine, baby!". Enid said, tired.

"Doctor Carlisle said your mother has a viral infection. She'll probably get better in a few days, but she'll still need to stay in bed!". Charlie said, leaning on the door with his arms crossed.

"Got it!" Ethan said, looking at Enid, who was holding his hand. "Well, I guess I can take care of her now. Thanks, Charlie!". Ethan said smiling.

"Alright! I made some soup for her, in case she wants to have dinner later. You just need to heat it up. You know how to do that, right?". Charlie asked Ethan, raising an eyebrow.

"... I do," Ethan replied, clenching his eyelashes as he stared at Charlie.

"Okay, I guess I'll be going now! By the way, I almost forgot...". Charlie said, turning back to the bedroom door. "Bella told me that you guys are planning to go to La Push tomorrow after school. If you want, I can take care of your mom, no problem!". Charlie added.

Ethan stared at him for a few seconds, making the mood a little uneasy between the two. "I don't think you'll need it, no!" He replied to Charlie, who merely nodded and walked out the door.

"Stop being rude to Charlie, Ethan! He just wants to help!". Enid said, her voice husky.

"If he wants my mother's heart, he has to know who's in charge here!". Ethan said, jokingly.

"What the hell is 'your mother's heart', Ethan! Stop being silly!". Enid replied, coughing.

"Do you want me to stay here with you, Mom? Or do you want to get some rest?". Ethan asked his mother, as he caressed her hand.

"I want to rest for a while, so go do your homework. I saw that you did everything this weekend, so get it done today, so you don't have to do it next weekend!" Enid said, turning on her side to sleep.

"All right! Sleep tight!" Ethan said, turning off the light and closing the door.

He went to his room, closed the windows, and opened the closet, looking for Umb. Umb was like a cat. He could sleep all day long for months.

As Ethan opened the closet door, he saw Umb lying on his stomach, but he noticed something different about him. Umb was bigger than before and looked different.

"Umb?" Ethan said, reaching for the old shadow hamster in his hand.

Umb squirmed in his hands and opened his sleepy mouth, revealing two giant teeth in the front of that mouth. Hamsters also had the same teeth, but they were even bigger.

Ethan placed Umb on top of his bed to better understand what the little shadow animal had become.

Umb, not understanding, began to look at the little body of it itself. As he stretched, Ethan noticed that Umb's ears had grown and was long, the little tail was still small, but now looked like a pom-pom. Umb had evolved into a small rabbit.

Probably because of the time Umb spent in the dark, just sucking energy from the shadows, he ended up evolving on his own, without Ethan's help.

Umb began hopping back and forth across the room, happy at his own evolution. Ethan stood watching the little rabbit. It would probably take Umb more days to evolve into the next forms, since this needed to stay in the closet for 2 days, with almost no going out.

Ethan decided to do his homework while Umb amused himself with his new abilities around the room. He took the notebooks from his backpack and started reading. The questions were really easy for his level, so it didn't take 10 minutes, and he was done.

Since he didn't have much to do, he decided to test whether Umb's powers had evolved as well.

Ethan concentrated his energy and threw a shadow patch into a corner of the room, while he another shadow patch he threw onto the ceiling of the room.

Then he stopped under the ceiling spot and asked Umb to teleport as fast as he could, while Ethan held out his hands.

Umb jumped into one of the spots and, almost instantly, fell out of the ceiling shadow spot.

Ethan quickly caught Umb in midair, preventing the shadow rabbit from falling.

It was then that the two had an idea as they looked at each other with a smile on their faces.

Ethan started throwing several patches of shadow across the room, while Umb was running around, jumping into the shadows. It was as if the rabbit was just floating between the patches, so fast he could get through, no matter where Ethan threw them.

After a few seconds, the shadow patches would fade, so Umb needed to be quick to just not get stuck in the shadow particles and have to wait for Ethan to create another patch.

Umb still couldn't get out through a normal shadow patch because it didn't have as many concentrated particles. The shadow patch that Ethan created was complete darkness, a pitch, so it had as many shadow particles as possible, making it so that Umb could rebuild his body. He was going like particles from one shadow to another.

As they played around with testing Umb's abilities, the day wore on, and Ethan began to feel his strength getting stronger, because of the increasing darkness.

Ethan's eyes began to glow brighter than they should have, and he could feel the sensation It was then that as he threw one of the shadow patches, it came out with much more force and speed. As it hit the corner of Ethan's bedroom wall, it was like a small explosion, which left his wall stained black, as if it had burned the wall.

Umb freaked out, and before he could hit the stain on the wall, he instantly stopped, let out a low, strange little scream, and ran, hiding under the bed.

Ethan was startled by the rabbit and stood up quickly, heading toward the stain on the wall. He began to slide his fingers across the stain, trying to bury what had happened.

"It's hot!" Ethan said, looking at Umb, who was shaking with fear under the bed from almost dying.
