XXII - The Lion Is Out Of The Den

[Hexa’s POV]

“Ahem.” I cleared my throat standing behind Elwen, she was alone looking at a portrait of a man in a red toga with shining silver metal armor covering his chest. In his left hand he holds a large sword that bears the family crest of a golden war chariot carrying a lion. Under the painting it says, “The lord of the Villa: Alexander III Of Glaybar.”

Elwen turns around to face me and she gives a sweet smile, “Oh Hexa! Good to see you, do you need anything from me?”

My fingers tap onto my other hand, “Yes. Please forgive my rudeness with this question as well, m’lady…” I pause and see Elwen’s sweet smile hasn’t faded as she awaits my question, “I was just wondering, why should I follow you during this election? And should I even be in this group?”

Elwen nods, “Please do not worry that wasn’t rude at all, it was a completely reasonable question.”

I notice my shoulders unstiffen as I hear her gentle reply and she continues, “I would like to answer your first question, you are a very intelligent person and I believe you can take care of the team together mentally and physically! Now that would make you a very valuable member in any form of organization or group.”

I didn’t feel the same way as her. I am a monster. My sleeve hides my black veins but I notice that the black veins are growing to different parts of my body. Who knows what will happen to me when it takes control of my body. I feel like I would do the opposite of taking care of the group.

Elwen’s eyes light up as passion controls her voice,

“Now to your first question, why you should follow me. I’ll just tell you my ideals for when I get the crown. I plan to give so many more opportunities to the suppressed races, after all they could help rebuild this country into something close to a utopia. I want to make this country better than the glory days of the kingdom, I want to help end the famines in the smaller towns across the country. Make our country the trading hub of the world! We are in a great place for trading geographically speaking but we don’t take advantage of it. Think of all the luxury items we could get for the people to make them have great lives. I want a country where common folk wonder what they will do in their free time! To simply put it, I just want to make this a kingdom where all the surrounding countries would feel jealous of the great life that we are living.”

My heart was pounding. In my old life of living in The City Of Qork I would’ve never dreamed of an upper class to be so passionate about helping the lower class. Though, she could be lying. But if she isn’t I couldn’t imagine a world where The Kingdom Of Sela gets its act together, I want to see that world. I will support her just to see that beautiful world.

[Mansoon’s POV]

So Hexa’s weakness is pathetic, she is an egg without its shell. I imagined it to be way harder to break Hexa, but listening to the conversation, just one small conversation, showed me how pathetic she really was. I wanted to laugh. Did I really worry about her?

If I ever need to do so then I’ll use it against her. I only imagine having to fight any of the other group members if they either get in the way of Elwen or if they find out about my actual allegiance.

As predicted Alexander accepted the idea of the campaign on Calatemps and to fight against the possible cult activity at the forest around The Constantine Mansion. To my surprise, before much word of the campaign another election group decided to help, the one who is in second place at the moment, Midas.

I don’t know much about Midas but the only things I know is that he is one of the most successful merchants alive. He owns the trading company called, “The Eastern Selaic Trading Company.”

Well it doesn’t change anything for me, it will still drag the lion outside of its den. The only problem is that the fox will be with the lion sniffing out the traps that I set out for it.

But if I can separate the fox from the lion, a smile creeps onto my face.

I flipped through the empty pages of a book and wrote in it.

[Baldr’s POV]

I walked back into the Villa, praying that I wouldn’t run into the Sword Priest in these halls, I just had to make it to my room. Constantine told me that he wouldn’t bother me again but I still felt terrified. Maybe running into the Sword Priest again would be a good way to figure out who I was, but if he drew his sword onto me. Do I really want to know?

I made it to my room only to run into Saaxol along the way. I greeted him with a smile and wave before I entered my room. I saw my lute sitting in my bag. The last time I played it my fingers knew what to do, it was a strange phenomena. Hopefully it'll clear my mind. I opened my bag and grabbed my lute below it, the black book was missing.

The black book was missing?! Where could it have gone?

I started to run my hands through my hair, I looked around the room. I could have misplaced it somewhere. I ripped apart the room trying to find it, could someone have stolen it? The only people that knew about it were the people who rode with me in the carriage besides Saaxol since he was in the front seat. Could Meili have taken it? No. It was in my bag when I left to go look around the capital. Wherever it is, I need to find it fast.

[Beowulf’s POV]

“I can’t believe I have to work with a big oaf like you again.” Larisa furrowed her blonde eyebrows.

I also couldn’t believe it either, I thought I was going to stay by Midas’ side while I worked for him.

I shrugged, “Maybe he thinks we work well together, besides we did always get the job done back when we previously worked together.”

“We only got the job done because of me always having to clean up all your reckless decisions that you impulsively made!” Larisa yelled as she gave a kick to my shield.

“They weren’t that reckless! Also don’t kick my shield, I just cleaned it.” I shot back.

“Oh ok! Acting like a courier that somehow got lost in the middle of an enemy noble’s mansion that we very clearly broke into, which was also your fault how they caught us I remind you, isn’t a reckless decision made by you?! Also I will kick your shield whether you like it or not!” Larisa growled and hit my shield with her orcish bow like it was a mallet.

“Hey I see you still have my bow I gave you.” I smiled.

Larisa ignored me and drew a serious expression on her face, “Enough with the lollygagging. Let us go into business talk. Spying the enemy is a very serious business. How about you do more of the spying when the campaign on Calatemps starts. I’ll start some of the spying now, I have a list of the names that we will be spying. Hexa, Bud, Saaxol, Mansoon and Baldr. We will just be getting basic information about them. That’s all. I am going to be starting with Saaxol, Bud and Baldr. When the campaign starts you will go with Hexa and Mansoon. We will help each other when necessary. Got it?”

“Got it. Heard loud and clear. Have fun with the spying.” I replied.
