XX - Unharmed In The Lion's Den

[Hexa’s POV]

I walked up to Saaxol, who just walked out of his room after getting treated. Saaxol had his eyes casted down as he scratched some of the moss that was strongly attached to his body. Some flakes of moss flew off as I waved my hand in front of me.

“Hey. How are you doing?” I greeted Saaxol with a smile.

Saaxol’s eyes landed on me, “Hello!” Saaxol’s mood suddenly shifted to like an ecstatic child getting candy, it seemed like he was playing a facade. “I am doing very well! How about you!?”

“I am good…” An awkward silence then erupted as Saaxol tapped his three-toed foot.

“Are you going to continue to support Elwen in this election?” I suddenly asked.

“Hmm? I think I will… You?” Saaxol stopped tapping his foot and turned his body towards me.

“I’m not sure. Like the money is great, but does Elwen really want a person that is only here for the money? Why do you support her?” I leaned back on a pillar.

Saaxol looked up, “Well… There are a few reasons, she doesn’t look at me strangely even though I look like a madman to others. I’m sure even Mansoon still thinks I’m a madman,” Saaxol chuckles. “and well Elwen seems kind hearted. This kingdom doesn’t need a war and glory crazed leader. Now I haven’t really seen the other candidates but Elwen just seems like the correct pick.”

I nodded while Saaxol said that. Elwen didn’t think my black veins were strange. Instead she accepted me, but did she accept me? Or did Constantine make her accept me. Honestly I don’t even know Constantine that well either. Maybe I should ask Elwen herself why I should follow her…

[Baldr’s POV]

“Stop.” I heard a voice firmly say from behind me. I traveled outside of Alexander’s Villa and was looking through the capital city, I had a lot of coin to spend so I could probably find something cool to bring back to the rest of the group but,

“I know who you are, you can't hide it from me.” The voice had a strong bit of righteousness to it. My stomach drops when they mention they knew me.

I attempted to clear my throat, "W-Who are you?" I tried to turn around and got a glimpse of a large great sword before he shouted,

“You stay where you are, I know what you can do. I knew who you were the moment I laid eyes on you. Do you think you could trick everyone with this act?”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about! Who do you think I am-?! I-I don’t even know who I am!” I frantically said. Whoever this person was obviously knew who I was before my memories went away. I have to calm this person down to hopefully talk to them.

“Stop with this deceit. You may have fooled the people in your group and Constantine. But you haven’t fooled me.” The man pushed the great sword lightly onto my back and growled “I should slay you right here… You are a threat to everyone in this city. No. A threat to every living creature on this planet.”

Suddenly another very familiar voice appeared, “Well, well, well, weeell. I’ll be damned. The Dragon Sword Priest about to slew a beloved member of the Elwen camp? How horrible… Think about how this looks for Alexander? Stand down.”

My eyes widened, Constantine is here to save me… But the man behind me is… The Dragon Sword Priest? The same one in The City Of Qork? I felt the great sword get pushed away as the long bony fingers of Constantine got placed onto my shoulder and moved me away. I looked back and indeed saw Grayhart The Dragon Sword Priest with his weapon drawn at me. If he truly knows who I am, who would make him have such a reaction? Was I a well known member in the cult?

“Go back to being a hero. That’s all you’re good for. If I see you hold a sword at another one of Elwen’s camp members you’ll notice Alexander is not in the election anymore.” Constantine hissed at Grayhart.

A cold stare from Grayhart traveled from Constantine to me, the golden streaks in his perfect blue eyes fired up as he took a step towards me. The wind seemed to be avoiding him as if it were terrified of Grayhart. Constantine took a step forward in front of me.

Grayhart stopped and stood there for what seemed like an hour. He gritted his teeth and said, “If I see anything suspicious from you, I will snap you.” Grayhart turned around and in a quick blink of an eye, he disappeared on top of a building and disappeared as he continued jumping from building to building.

Constantine patted me on the shoulder and said, “Don’t worry about him, he won’t hurt you.”

I nodded, “Yeah but he said some troubling stuff about possibly who I am… He is my best lead…”

[Bud’s POV]

A voice appeared in my head, “DO NOT TALK IN THIS MEETING.”

I looked up and around and shouted, “EH?!”

Alexander looked up at me as he was taking a seat, “Something wrong?” Alexander raised his eyebrow and straightened his back.

The voice appeared in my head again, “WHAT DID I SAY?”

Ahhh, a message spell. Where someone says something secretly in someone’s mind. I can cast that too!

Mansoon quickly replied to Alexander, “Ah Bud must’ve seen something out of the normal for him! He doesn’t see such luxurious places like this.”

Mansoon and Elwen took a seat on a smooth green couch with a yellow diamond pattern on it. I looked around and quickly panicked as there weren't any other places to sit. I looked at Hephaestion who stood behind Alexander with a blank expression and his arms behind his back. Maybe I was supposed to do this as well… But where? Maybe behind Alexander as well.

I confidently marched over to behind Alexander, I saw Hephaestion side eye me as Mansoon looks at me with a face of horror.

Alexander smacked his knee and with a deafening roar of laughter, “BAHAHAHAHA! You are a bold man Bud! Standing behind the opposition with such confidence! I see why you were brought to this meeting!”

Mansoon expression turns into a weak smile, “Ah yes haha…”

Elwen winks at me and gives me a thumbs up, “Well I think we should get started with the meeting if that is fine with you Alexander.”

Alexander smiles, “Of course I would love to hear from you. What do you need?”

Elwen looks at Mansoon and then Alexander closes her eyes and says, “Well. Originally we came here for the best healer in the kingdom because unfortunately most of my party members were attacked by a the wicked Miasma Guild and they all cursed-”

“Except me!” I blurted out. Mansoon blinked aggressively at me.

Alexander let out another roar of laughter and shouted, “I like this man! What is your name?”

I blinked a few times as he looked over at me, “Bud.” I replied.

Mansoon snapped the conversation back to normal, “We encountered two horrfic things along the way, a large cult gathering of what we believe to be the Lucifmal cultists trying to capture Elwen.”

Alexander nodded, “Interesting. But people say there are cult sightings all the time, every time someone goes out to investigate they end up not there. If you are requesting my help against a force that has a chance of not even being there then I’m sorry but I won’t-”

“That’s not all.” Mansoon slammed his hands on an end table next to him gathering the eyes of everyone in the room, “We found Calatemps.”

I couldn’t help but notice Hephaestion clenched fist after the mention of Calatemps, but his face remained unchanged. The same neutral face he had when the meeting started.

Mansoon let out a creepy smile after mentioning that fact as Alexander leans back into his chair.

“I know one of your promises as future king is to kill the Calamity Beasts, why not get one outta the way?” Mansoon kept the smile painted on his face.

“So let me get this straight, you will give us the location of Calatemps and in return we offer some protection if the cultists happen to still be there when we arrive, am I correct.” Alexander narrowed his eyes at Mansoon. The loud laughing man seemed to have disappeared as a serious air clouded the room.

I start kicking the floor. This is getting boring! I’ll remind myself to never join meetings ever again…

Mansoon does a small chuckle, “You said the deal, not me. How about Elwen and I give you some time to think it over. Okay? Come on Bud.”

I jumped ecstatically and ran out the door, seeing Alexander with his back no longer straight but instead slouching making him seem a lot older as he grabs his hands together and puts it in front of his face.

As the door closes behind us Elwen turns to Mansoon, “I don’t think he will accept, because even the location of Calatemps isn’t fully certain!”

“But the fact that we know makes him want to take that chance. Remember and take notes Elwen you should know your opposition to be successful in this campaign. As he is a general. He is obsessed with glory.”
