Chapter 3

After running for as long as I could my right leg gave out throwing me into the grass, leaving me in the cool ground, with the calm rustling of grass drifting in the breeze acting like a melodic tune to my tired mind and thusly I passed out.

When I came back to consciousness I noticed that the familiar feel of the grass I had passed out in was no longer there replaced with clothing with dried blobs, opening my eyes I saw blood in the clothes not all from me. Looking around I noticed I was in a hut of some kind made from fabric stitched together, where was I? Looking around for anything, I noticed a strip of fabric that seemed to be a door way with the sound of people outside walking and inaudible whispers just low enough not to be understood, just for a head to pop through the door way with a surprised response, “OW. You are up, I will go get someone.” Followed by them pulling their head out the door, revealing the world briefly as people walked by the small hut I was in only for the outside world to be sealed as the fabric door closed behind them.

As I waited I noticed that the pain from the wounds I had sustained were gone replaced by Scars the only memory my body had to my failure in that fight. The grief of my failure was interrupted by a confident young man walking in with his golden hair lighting up the hut, “Hello my name is Zac and what is yours,” He asked with a gentle smile that was reflected in his green eyes that glimmered with a weird orange colour.

“My name is Andrew.” and with a confused look I asked “where are we?”

With a face filled with understanding he answered, “Ow, this place.” He gestured around, “This is a little camp that we set up, but now that I have answered one of your questions I have a few of my own.” Looking serious he continued, “What is your class, your skills and what rank are you?”

“Rank?” I asked in complete confusion.

“So you haven’t gained access to the information window,” He asked, only to continue, “So you haven’t killed or helped kill a monster, well in that case, what class are you and what are your skills.”

“I am a Sage, with the ability Free flow and I have gained access to the information window,” I answered quickly to try correcting.

This story has been taken without authorization. Report any sightings.

Looking at me with disappointment, “I know you haven’t lied to me and that disappoints me, as you clearly aren’t adapting to this,” He stated matter-of-factly, “Well tell me your rank to see if you have any use to the guard, ow and tell me what your skill does before I forget,” He asked as his green eyes seem to pierced me.

“My skill free flow allows for me to manipulate mana which just makes me see the world in different colours that's all so far and I will check the information window,” I stated dejected from the earlier comment.

Before I could ask Zac answered, “You will need to say activate information window or think it. And some people see a window others hear it, and the weird ones understand it?” He ended his comment laced with confusion.

Thinking the command I heard the voice,

[INFORMATION WINDOW]

Name: Andrew Smith

Class: Sage

Ability: Free flow

Rank: Wood

Looking up at Zac I responded, “I am a wood rank.”

Getting up and leaving only to turn to me before exiting, “Sorry kid but you are of no use to me I would also suggest leaving this tent, there are many injured and as little as it is a bed we need all we can get.” He said before finally exiting. I got up and left the hut a minute after he left as I new someone else could use it and I had to find if anyone I knew was around here. As I left the hut, I could only be astonished by how far we had fallen as everyone was walking about, the limited housing with massive fires to keeping most of the people warm. Seeking answers to what was going on I walked to a group of two men in their late 20’s and started the conversation with, “I have only just gotten here and talked with Zac what is going on?”

One of the men replied, “Okay kid here is what we know, first avoid talking to strangers, my names John and this is Evan.” with a smile on his face he continued, “two, nothing around here comes free this is a one off but the facts are this is just a camp and if you have access to the information window we only have a bit information we can give.”

I answered swiftly, “I have the information window.”

John nodded before continuing, “Okay we don’t know how or why this happened but we know that Zac is leather rank and he is-s”

Only for Evan with a gruff voice to cut off John, “We saw him carry rocks about 100kg (220lbs) for most of the day and I swear some of those rocks must have been closer to 200kg (441lbs) and he is put together but not well built as you have seen.”

John with a icy glare continued the conversation, “Yes most of the leather rankers are a like super human but what scares me is their endurance as I don’t remember him ever taking a break and he continued through most of the night its almost like they don’t sleep.”

“Thanks,” I answered back only for their response to be nod in almost perfect timing if it wasn’t for John starting sooner. Moving away from John and Evan I continued my search for anyone I knew yet as the day became cold it seemed unlikely that I would find anyone, I miss you Lora.
