Chapter 1 - The First Spark

The lights in the class always flickered during a storm yet I could never remember the class getting this dark before. It was as if I was in a void, covered in a blanket of nothing, but the darkness didn't persist as a purple spark seem to form. It slowly fell till it landed where the ground should have been, only to become a blinding purple light searing my vision to white. Then the white light dimmed into the familiar class with Mr. King going on about some compound only for an arrow to pierce him pinning him to the board as he was about to face us. The class erupted in screams and wails as Mr. King choked on the arrow in his chest before being silenced by another deforming his face. I was paralysed as more arrows flew through the windows cutting my peers down like a scythe to grass till the class went silent with me sitting there frozen with the same thought over and over, MOVE!

With a blink I finally snapped out of it and ran. I ran past the bodies on the floor in and outside the classroom, filled with the same arrows, faces filled with pain, horror and some form of sorrow. I ran past the cracks that were not there before, over plants I had never seen before, until the path I had unwittingly ran down ended with a clearing of tall grass that reached the horizon where the sun was setting, rapidly.

When the frigid night came so did the howling that was carried on the wind leaving me with nothing but grief for everyone and everything I had lost. Sleep didn't come as the cold felt like nails in my bones, the howls like screams in my ears and the unknown foliage like bright lights preventing the sweet release of sleep, yet the night allowed for questioning thoughts. The night was filled with questions unanswered by the sour taste of the unknown leaving only more questions, who, why and how could I return back to my life.

The early morning didn't relinquish the glacial air. No it brought more questions as a unfamiliar voice echoed in my head.

[Total human population] – 2 billion

REWARD – gained CLASS [SAGE]

CLASS REWARD – gained SKILL [FREE FLOW]

“FREE FLOW?” I questioned out loud only for the same unfamiliar voice to answer, “Query detected. Analysing. Response formulated. SKILL [FREE FLOW] description – A skill allowing manipulation of mana directly, activated through voice command

‘ACTIVATE FREE FLOW’, activated through thought command ‘ACTIVATE FREE FLOW’,

query answered.” My mind was racing with all this information about only 2 billion people left how? Only for my thoughts to drift back to yesterday, to the animals that had shot anyone that had moved or made a sound, causing them to wail and hit the ground only to be finished off with another arrow to the head, only for me to run away after uncountable hours of just sitting there, I ran past bodies of so many I knew and didn’t know. With some form of pain covering their face and at least one green arrow embedded in them. 6 billion killed in a day, this couldn’t be, this had to be a dream, a horrible nightmare to wake up from. My eyes were shut from my previous thought and I was screaming, “Wake up!” over and over tears rolling down my face, but I never woke up from this nightmare of a existence, no I was stuck and I would make sure at least those monsters paid for what they did. I turned from the open field and walked back to the horror I had been apart of to make what ever it was pay.

When I had finally made it back to the ruins that had been my school I didn’t notice at first the half eaten bodies or the blood trails that led to the Language block but all the missing blocks. There was no math, digital, sports or even most of the science block as it was gone, not truly gone but all that was left was random walls and trees, even the room I had run from was no longer there, the only remnant, was the board with two holes and a blood trail leading to the language block
