[Cobon]
Light sprinkles around my face. My eyes flutter open revealing the carnage inside the train. Chairs are thrown everywhere with rope stretched to tearing.
"Molly?" I cough propping myself up on my elbows. She isn't near me. Hopefully she is just blocked by the chairs. I get to my feet my head scrapping the crunched in walls of the train. The train has been flipped over on its side with only small windows to escape out. I take a step using anything near me as leverage, my body has pains all over with my chest being the worst.
"Molly!" I call again, looking around. I see some of my belongings still in their bags littering the ground, but I don't pick them up.
Again she doesn't answer. God please be allright.
I search the entirity off the train finding nothing. The back door is crushed in making it impossible to open it and the side door is facing the ground eliminating that option. The windows are it then. I scan each one looking for one with less glass shards lining the edge. Finding none that fit this role I grab a peice of torn rope and clean up a window. Satisfied I grab the side of the window and jump. Using the force I throw my arms threw the hole grabbing onto the bent metal. I drag myself out with a few kicks to help.
The sun shines through the top part of the trees beggining its final hours of descent. The train had only three cars me and Molly were in the middle one. Its turned over looking like a crunched up peice of metal, the back car has only a few scrapes and is still partially on the tracks and the front car .... Oh god.
Its completely destroyed. The entire cart has been split in half and crushed. The tracks are splintered with giant shards sticking out of the ground.
"Molly!" I shout. No answer.
Dadum.
The ground shakes. My body freezes up, with an icy feeling going down my spine. I turn looking into the forest. I see a large shape moving through the trees. Its body rubs against the thicks trunks of the trees shaking them. I take a step back the window I crawled out of looking like a good option.
Crunch. I jerk my head to the noise my heart beating like a jackrabbit's.
If you stumble upon this tale on Amazon, it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.
Its Molly! She's hiding behind the train car. She has her finger pressed against her month indicating for me to be quiet. I nod moving to her position slowly. My feet scratch the side of the train making little noises. The thing in the woods moves down the tracks not seemingly to notice me. Finally I jump off the train landing next to Molly stumbling to my side.
She catches me lifting me up to my feet. She keeps a hand on my arm and leads me to the first train car away from the thing. We crouch close to the ground almost to the point of crawling. We near the front mess of the train car where the engine was. Parts of it are scattered across the ground. Molly turns my head pointing to a spot next to a wheel that is high enough to block both of us from sight. I nod walking with her to the spot.
We lean into the side peice of metal.
"Did you get a good look at it," she ask quietly looking around.
"No the trees blocked it," I tell her,"but it is huge. I don't know how it didn't hear me."
"Just be grateful it didn't. Now the nearest town is Zarif, I don't know how long of a walk it will be but be prepared to walk without sunlight. Lets wait for a few minutes before heading off just incase the beast descides to circle back." She keeps moving her eyes quickly serying the terrian.
I nod looking ahead.
It is going to be a straight shot from here to Zarif we won't have cover.
The woods are not a possibility they are too dangerous this far away from a town or city state.
We wait in silence. No birds can be heard singing or any other creature. What beast was that? I ask myself. There hasn't been anything like that here since the city states started defending the coast.
She signals to move foward.
We start out crouching but quickly turn to running.
....
"I can't run anymore," I wheez slumping to my knees.
"We have to Cobon the sun is almost down the tracks won't keep us safe." Molly tells me grabbing my arm pulling me up.
My stomach hurts with hunger, my throat is dry and my legs are sore from all the running we've done.
I weez again getting to my feet. Whatever that thing was its scared Molly senseless. I don't know how she keeps running its like she never gets tired.
We keep running going up a hill.
"Whoa!" A man yells pulling the reigns on a horse. He misses cussing a few times.
"What in gods name are you two doing here," he yells at us."Didn't you get the warning."
Molly shakes off the yelling."No we were on the train."
"The train then why are you.... oh no." The man goes quiet he gets off his horse asking us questions."What happen?" He's wearing dark green camofloage light armor with the Baseline symbol on it. He must be a scout for the legion.
"Something hit the train," Molly tells."Its completly destroyed and the train operator and conductor are dead. And whatever it was its moving that way," she points behind us.
"Explains why you're going this way," the scout says."There is a base of works being set up at Zarif. I'll take you back where you can give a more descriptive explanation to the general." He helps us oto the horse with me getting squitched inbetween them.
