Everyone looked in their opponent's eyes, be it the humans or the orcs. Uncle Uuk and Father were leading from the frontline. I was standing at the back, witnessing the art of the formation of troops.
Their orc forces were divided into three battalions spread like an arc as if wanting to engulf our lesser numbers. One thing that caught my eye was that there were human archers behind the orc's battalion. My eyes widened as I realized we heavily lacked equipment. They were prepared as if they already knew our composition and therefore composed a counter which would be very difficult for us to deviate from. 'Well, we will consider this matter later if we survive.'
The whole battlefield looked like it was in their favor. We had fewer warriors. They were on a slightly higher ground than us.
Uncle Uuk and Father looked at each other and chatted for a bit, after which Uncle uuk came to the rear near me. Both sides were waiting patiently waiting to see who would attack first. There was pin drop silence as if nobody was present on the battleground. Suddenly there was a loud sound of a bang on our side. I looked back and saw a few orcs with a wooden stick hitting a drum-like instrument, followed by our orcs using their foot to make a loud noise. It was very confusing to figure out what Father was trying to achieve by doing this, but after I looked at the enemies, it was apparent that it was working.
The humans and orc alliance had almost four times our strength. Still, they had perplexity and a little bit of hysteria in their eyes.
"Uuk, come here," an unknown soldier shouted, asking uncle to come to the back of the trees covering the battlefield. Uncle gave me a nudge and retreated back to the trees.
I was confused but followed his command regardless. The whole experience till now has been very frightening for me. I thought that as I was learning things quickly, I would be at least at a level of a regular orc warrior in our tribe, but now that I had seen the battlefield, I knew my worth very well. I got very lucky in my fight with that level 2 orc from before otherwise, I would have been dead.
I sprinted towards the trees and tripped on the ground. Fortunately, none of the archers seemed to notice my disappearance.
I saw an arm extend towards me. I grabbed it and looked up. He was analyzing my worth by scanning his eyes through me. He had a sword mark on his forehead, which was being held by stitches, ruining his otherwise handsome face. He had yellow eyes and wore pretty magnificent clothes made of high-quality material. I had never seen him in our tribe, but I concluded that he was someone with a high position.
"Hello, may I know what we are doing here," I asked while handling brushing the dust off my clothes.
"I think there is a misunderstanding here....YOU are not going to do anything. Your job is to just watch us do our thing" he said with a deep tone.
Uncle Uuk interrupted, " Come on, brother, you don't have to be so mad. He is a kid anyways."
" If this kid had not jumped in at the orc trying to be a hero, we could have easily ambushed their whole tribe with minimal casualties. It's good that I arrived at the correct time. Otherwise, the casualties would have been many folds." He said with a full face. It was apparent from his tone and body language that he was damn mad at me.
I already didn't like that guy. What's he being so cocky for. "Mister, it was my bad on my part. May I know your name ." Although he was right that I should not have killed that orc but come on, what's done is done. No one can change it.

"My name is Celeric. It looks like the battle is about to begin." We lay low behind the trees witnessing the field. I fixed my gaze on my father.
Father equipped his spear and rotated it back in a remarkable stance. The thumping stopped...
"FUSHADO" father shouted at the top of his lungs and retreated a few steps back with uncle uuk. Every one of the Orc repeated the chant and initiated the formation.
Everyone came close to each other, made a huge circle, and positioned their shield in front of them. The orcs in the middle took their shield and placed it above their heads. It was just like how the Greeks did it.
The enemies charged toward our forces, trying to submerge us and break our formation. It started with a hail of arrows on our orcs, followed by a few of the enemy orcs trying to break our warrior's shield.
Our tribe countered the arrows flawlessly, taking down their orcs little by little using spears. However, as soon as the second wave of the enemies approached the circle and took a fight with us, the humans fired their hail of arrows on us without considering that their own orcs were there. This surprised our warriors, killing some of them in the process.
"They are barbaric bastards. EVERYONE stay steady." Father shouted.
The enemies began to push our warriors to a dead end.
"We need to finish things quickly, Uuk. So get ready, and kid, follow us. You will get to learn how to use your brain for once." Celeric exclaimed.
Seriously this guy needs to shut the fuck up or otherwise....well, I can't do anything to him now, so let's just endure it.
We began moving through the thick trees and planned to flank the archers from the side. We were walking very cautiously without trying to make a sound. Our green skin helped us camouflage through the dense forest.
Celeric was leading the way. Even uncle Uuk was following him and giving him respect, and was obeying him religiously. It was the first time for me, but I can tell from their body language that they both knew each other very well. Both were comfortable around each other. Like he was always living with us.
What could have been his identity? by clothes, He looked like a noble, but why would a noble help us and put his life on the line. Even in the novels, there was no mention of the name Celeric, And if we were trying to ambush the archers from the back, wouldn't it be a bad idea because even if we tried to ambush them, their quantity is just too much for us to handle. There were so many questions that were flooding my head.
"halt," Celeric whispered. I can smell a few people nearby. We analyzed our area and slowly made our way to where the 'smell' was coming from.
We could see a small base a little deeper into the woods. The base consisted of a small watchtower and a few shabby-looking houses.
"those damn humans must have made them in advance," Uncle Uuk whispered aggressively.
We stood there for a few minutes deciding what to do. We could have conquered the base and then moved to the battlefield's rear side or just sneaked past the base. Which was more difficult but less time-consuming and less irritating.
But as we didn't have much time, it did not take Celeric long to make his decision. "We will sneak past the base. They are dumb orcs, so it would be easy to sneak past them". Uncle Uuk agreed instantly.
As we began moving forward, we heard a cry from our back,
"guards...alert!"
Apparently, they found a twig broken down the way. Fuck...was it broken by me, another blunder made by me. Celeric looked at me and rolled his eyes. Uncle Uuk then began apologizing to Celeric on my behalf.
Suddenly an arrow came from behind and went right from my left side, and struck a tree instantly Celeric turned, closed his eyes, and chanted something.
A bow made out of wind suddenly appeared before my eyes, and he shot from the bow in an instant, the arrow emitted a gush of wind blowing the nearby grass, and as it accelerated, the wind became even more powerful.
It struck the orc that used the bow and left a massive hole in his stomach through which we could even pass our hands if we wanted to. Everything was done so perfectly and stealthily that I could barely close my mouth from how it was done.
As I looked toward Celeric, I saw his whole body shaking. He collapsed on the ground and shivered heavily. I didn't know what to do at such a time. So I just stood there watching his whole body, still shivering.
