Riddle tried to clear his mind of Morsia's sarcastic gratitude. He had other pressing matters, he have to find the location of the chamber of secrets. There was still time for the afternoon classes to start. As he made his way out of the Great Hall, he made up his mind to make it to the library.
Shortly after Riddle left the hall, Morsia joined him in walking out, but she had made up her mind to go to the dormitory. Since Annebeth Notts was still at the Great Hall, the chances of Slytherins pulling a trick on her were quite low, no one wanted to mess with her in the first place, since she had an assertive aura and looked like she'd kill people if they ever cross her path-Gracefully menacing.
Riddle was stopped in his track by Prof. Dumbledore at the entrance of Hogwarts library, he felt an unsettling feeling in his stomach. Since last year, Dumbledore has been tailing him, he wasn't quite sure since their interactions were pretty good but he had a hunch that Dumbledore knew he was looking for the chamber of secrets and his reason to do so.
He shook his head and turned back to leave for his dormitory, getting unnoticed by Dumbledore. He sensed Dumbledore was plotting something even before he could act.
He emerged into the Slytherin common room, where only a few people were sitting and gossiping in their free time. He looked around and he saw Morsia, he dreaded her presence. But she was talking to a sixth-year guy, it was Lestrange.
Riddle always wanted to have Lestrange in his group, they all had a similar goal about muggle-borns and dark magic. He felt like having someone from a powerful pureblood family, will increase his chances of growing his reputation.
Riddle moved sneakily toward the pair, sitting beside them in an armchair.
"Thank you for your offer but I don't think I can do it," Riddle heard Morsia.
"No, Really, you have to give it a try, Quidditch ain't that hard, I think you're a perfect fit!" Lestrange was trying to convince Morsia.
'Quidditch really? This girl can't even hold a wand,' Riddle thought to himself.
"Sure, I will give it a try," Morsia gave in finally smiling vividly.
"That's-uh That's great! I'm happy that you're trying!" Lestrange remarked and Morsia left without another word and walked out of the dorm.
Lestrange was looking in the direction where she went.
'Is this another Idiot that's after her?' Riddle wondered straightening himself and looking at Lestrange who seems to be lost in thoughts.
"Hello, Lestrange" Riddle initiated.
"Oh hey, Riddle" Lestrange seemed to be more cheerful to see him than he was to see Lestrange.
'Is he after me too?' he wondered.
"We've never got to talk, how's you?" Riddle added smiling.
"That's true, well it's not like I know nothing about you," Lestrange said chuckling softly.
"Right, We should hang out sometime," he added.
If you discover this tale on Amazon, be aware that it has been unlawfully taken from Royal Road. Please report it.
Riddle felt so happy that this went easier than he anticipated.
"I always wondered why you didn't try quidditch," Lestrange wondered out loud staring into nothingness.
'He ain't into either of us, He's just into Quidditch,' Riddle felt weirded out.
"Ah, it's just not my thing," he added quickly, nodded Lestrange a goodbye, and walked out of the dorm.
He walked through the dungeons, lost in thoughts. The lunch break was almost over, he had to try and see if he can access the library and get at least one book about Hogwarts' History.
Just as he walked fast and turned into a corner that led to the library, someone had bumped into him, it was a little girl wearing Gryffindor robes.
Riddle flinched a bit but he lend out a hand for the girl to get up.
"I'm sorry about this," he added calmly but he was in a rush. He only have to maintain this good boy image because there were other students passing by.
"It's you! Riddle!" the girl exclaimed.
'Ah here is another one,' he rolled his eyes.
"Why yes, and you are?" he asked the girl.
"Jeez, you should know me already, I'm Gryffindor's star quidditch player," she said proudly.
"Oh well, I haven't watched the matches, sorry" he added hastily.
"I'm Minerva for you to remember, and you are welcome to watch my match this year," she added optimistically, more like commanding him to do so.
He felt a surge of rage towards this little girl, who does she think she is, he gritted his teeth as he made his way toward the library.
The bell rang just as he set foot in the library, he cursed inwardly but he remembered that it was potions with prof. Slughorn, a wicked smile spread across his face.
He casually entered the library only to get stopped by the majestic Librarian whose face was covered with his giant ginger mustache.
"What are you doing here boy?" he asked.
"I'm here to look for a book for my classwork," Riddle said smiling, trying to lure the librarian into his charm.
"Well, aren't you Riddle?" he questioned him raising his brows.
"Yes, sir."
"The classes have started, you should go back right away" he retorted.
"No sir, Prof. Slughorn personally asked me to take it from here, It's his hour for me" Riddle added slyly.
"I see, be quick though," the librarian let him in.
Riddle smiled to himself, he could've come back after class too but this seemed to be a perfect chance since there were no disturbances other than the librarian.
He quickly browsed the bookshelves for history books, he has already studied many of them now he have to find something that's dated beyond what he has known of Hogwarts. He pulled out a rather rugged-looking book.
'This is it' he thought in triumph.
He carefully turned its pages, curiosity piqued his eyes, and pried every corner of the pages for any mention of the chambers.
As he went through it, he did find a page that mentioned the Chamber of Secrets.
//History becomes myth, and myth becomes legend. What really happened hides on time.//
// It is said that Salazar Slytherin had built a secret chamber within the Hogwarts grounds.//
// But no one knew of its existence, ending up as a bedtime tale that we tell children.//
It was nothing more and less than what is mentioned in his school books. He sighed in frustration.
Suddenly something clicked in his mind.
'I should try searching for Slytherin's history,' he wondered aloud.
He moved across bookshelves, not aware of how long he's been here. After looking through a number of shelves, he finally found a book that had the history of the Hogwarts founders.
He dusted it off, it looked like it was never been read for years. He smirked to himself, knowing that he was close to locating the chambers.
He turned the pages to the History of Salazar Slytherin. He felt very proud, reading about it he got totally sidetracked by what he originally took in this book. He is the Slytherin's only living heir, he felt as if he stood big above everyone else in the school, everyone else in the wizarding world itself.
Just as turned pages, his eyes locked on the mention of chamber secrets.
//The Chamber of Secrets: Origin Story//
He gasped, coming to the realization of his mission.
As he just started reading, the librarian called him causing him to startle.
"Hey, Riddle! How long are you gonna be here?" he yelled at him.
Riddle hastily closed the book and carried it walking toward the librarian.
"I'm sorry, I got distracted by the books," he replied his eyes filled with glory.
"Get going already," the librarian pushed him out.
Riddle felt relieved that he was able to get his hands on this book, this may give him clues or even answers to get him moving towards his goal.
After leaving the library, he made a run downstairs walking towards the dungeons.
