Chappy 6: The Making of a Rabbit

Gazing absentmindedly at the golden light which streamed through the window. she sighed for the hundred time. She thought that merging personalities would cause confusion and headache. But her reborn self, the part of her mind that made her Emilia lay dormant at the back of her mind. It was as if Emilia Lyon was gone and Ellowyn had taken her place.

Though what worried her was not the personality change, it was the events that transpired ever since her worldly transfer, her mind numbed every time she recalled them and the actions that she took. She groaned from the headache. She decided to deal with them later so as to not be overwhelmed. Then she remembered, the system indicated that it was running out of power when she was trapped under the rubble.

“System status”. She spoke out loud, her voice a hint of panic. She got a glimpse of the energy level, which rose to 6% before there was a knock on the door.

A middle-aged man entered, she presumed that he was a doctor based on his gloves and the e-notepad he was holding. His suit held a shade of gray and blue instead of the usual white, his calm eyes gave her a once over, making sure of her stable state.

“Hi, I am Tom Price’s lead doctor, you can call me John. I will be overseeing the ear attachment operation. It will only take about an hour and is practically painless”. He smiled reassuringly.

He proceeded to explain to her the basics of the operation, they were going to take a pair of lab-grown rabbit ears with the best genetic combination that was suitable for her body to lower the chances of rejection. For the rest of the procedure, they would remove a small piece of skin and muscle at two areas, then the pair of ears will be attached using bio-glue. It should be a few months before she can feel her ears, however, as the nervous system would need time to grow and sync with the nerve cells in those ears. He pulled out a small syringe from his pocket, she raised her eyebrows.

“Are you going to sedate me now? We are not in the operating room yet”. She asked.

“I’m sorry, the details of the procedure and equipment used will have to be kept from your sight to prevent the leak of information, it is our company’s policy”. He answered, before gently injecting the syringe content into her arm.

Foreign substance detected in the blood stream, analyzing... Detected sedation components. Will automatically execute removal procedures in 2 seconds

Cancel! She gaped, the last thing she wanted was to let him know of her just discovered poison immunity.

User cancellation overrode due to severity of condition, detected high chance of danger based on predicted context, removing substance

She cursed inwardly, feeling the approaching sleepiness faded away.

She scowled, thinking of having to feel the pain of the operation. Reduce pain sensory to 1%, tried the panicking Ellowyn.

Done

She sighed in relief. Emulate sleep mode.

Reducing artificial heart rate and metabolism. Done

She smirked, how convenient. Make me a sandwich?

Very funny, Had you the materialization ability, the system would have made you one already. Since you’re reading this, you don’t. I’ve also put other easter eggs commands like this one, beware that they might have stronger side effects. Cheers, Carl

Ops. She was glad it wasn’t one of the more severe ones.

She sighed inward, loudly. She was bored and nervous at the incoming operation as she heard the clanging sounds of prepared instruments. Show me a movie? She quietly inquired, hoping that it wasn’t some sort of easter egg command.

Would you like to be taken to your soul room?

That intrigued her. What is my soul room?

The soul room is a virtually created soul compartment, designed to temporarily keep your soul’s consciousness. It may be used for entertainment purposes such as meditation and viewing media or training purposes such as battle simulations. Note that you can’t enter your soul room in battle or when your soul is being repaired

Show me the soul room. She requested excitedly. In an instant, she found herself transferred, there was no perception of space for white light completely filled her vision.

Warning! this is not a genuine version of the Hero System, missing soul connection, and hero registry modules. Welcome to your soul room, here are the instructions...

She was ecstatic, the room was for her to design and create, all she had to do was to import objects into the room by focusing really hard on its attributes such as shape, color, and weight, or she could pick from the various default ones.

##

In a lush and beautiful garden filled with flowers of various colors, next to a tranquil, clear blue lake, sat Ellowyn comfortably in her meditative pose. This is so much better than a desktop background if only I can get a working Internet connection... She mused happily before calling up the system status window again.

After reading about thirty pages of descriptions, she understood the basics of what the system can and can’t do. Firstly, unlike other novels that she had read where a magical computer could simply upload knowledge into her brain, making her an instant genius, the system’s way to communicate was more limited.

The system is a soul based mechanical program attached to her soul, to transmit information to her, it had to override her soul’s senses, such as drawing blue windows inside her vision or adding sounds to what she hears. Because it is a soul based entity, the system has to rely on her soul’s senses, what she sees, it can see.

It made up to that downside by having a ridiculously large visual and sound database, it was able to recognize most types of creature, devices and even the type of zit on someone’s face. In addition, it can interact with any kind of electronic devices that had a way to accept interaction, such as a port or waves, provided that it had the necessary drivers. However, the energy cost increased exponentially when the interaction happens away from her body. The manual suggested that she attached some kind of communication pads under her skin and connect the device’s port through it. Am I a fucking Android? She retorted, though her lips curled into a mirth, betraying her excitement at the endless possibilities where she could connect and operate electronics from within her body.

She could also use this feature to bypass the senses limit, such as connecting the system with an infrared camera or better yet, she could connect to surrounding cameras through wireless and get a bird’s eye view.

Warning

Surgical operation detected, estimated strain on the head area while conscious to be above-suggested limit. It is strongly recommended that you remain unconscious during the procedure to prevent more strain

But I just got here! She pouted, unwilling to say farewell to her newly found paradise. She eventually gave in, however, turning everything off and slept.
