Kyo’s mind suddenly flashed to a few hours ago, the moment before he fell off Mount Huang. He had made meticulous arrangements to leave the clan. He wanted to try to make it in the mortal world below. Most cultivators, especially ones from a prestigious clan such as the Huang Clan, look down upon people who can’t cultivate. They call them mortals due to their short lifespans and sees them nothing more than ants and livestock. He had already descended covertly towards the middle area of Mount Huang from the Heaven Peak. It was relatively easy since he was a loner that no one paid attention to.
The humiliation and disappointment from the revelation that Kyo can’t cultivate was so great that Kyo’s very own father, Polwei, stopped communicating with him for over a decade. All the grandmasters that had hopes for him all lost interest instantly. His own siblings started shunning him since they could care less about his wellbeing. The friends he made slowly drifted away as they started practicing cultivation because it’s embarrassing to be associated with him. Their positions had reversed, before Kyo was miles ahead of them in life and suddenly he was nobody. Before long he was reduced to the status of a servant and was given a small allowance as long as he performed his chores. The servants treated him horribly since he came from a prestigious background and often abused him.
Still Kyo was extremely cautious, he chose uncommon routes that had sparse people so he could descend the mountain without much attention. He wore a common robe and had a plain sword by his side, most people would think he is a clan member from a low class family with a glance. Just when everything was going smoothly, something unexpected occurred.
What happened next will be forever engraved to his mind. A hazy fog from the early morning was blanketing the path softly, transparent water drops dripped from the leaves beside him as he walked down the trail. Then without warning, mythical lights flashed from all sides and converged a meter in front of him. As it did so, the grey fog completely dispersed and even the light morning breeze disappeared.
The figure in front of him was cladded in black baggy clothes and even had a demon-like mask on. It was obvious this person did not want his or her identity revealed.
“Hand over the Five-Point Rebirthing fruit or die.” A cold husky voice came from the figure. An invisible pressure shocked Kyo’s mind and made him kneel, the pain was worse than a knife stab.
Knowing that the moment he gives up the fruit his life will be forfeited, Kyo gritted his teeth and stood back up. Strategically, he slightly revealed a golden pendant around his neck as he did so. This was the medallion that all noble family members of the Huang Clan have.
“Honorable senior, if you want the fruit you only had to ask. All I ask for in return is that you grant me safe passage down the mountain.”
“Hmph. You think that being in the Shin family is supposed to scare me?”
Kyo was shocked that this person did not hold the Shin family in high regards. Besides the patriarch’s family that is situated in the center of Mount Huang, only the Ling family that rules over the Earth Peak and the Kang family that rules over the Ocean Peak is comparable to the Shin family in rankings. He had no idea who this expert could be. How did another person know he has the Five-Point Rebirthing fruit?
Before he realizes what happened, the mysterious stranger had grabbed onto his neck and carried him towards the end of a cliff in an astonishing fast blur. His storage bag floated out from beside him and the contents spewed out. The fruit wasn’t there!
The story has been illicitly taken; should you find it on Amazon, report the infringement.
“Where is it? Is it in your Dimensional Pocket?” The mysterious stranger said mercilessly with indifference. Kyo was surprised yet again, there should have been nobody that knows he had that skill! A Dimensional Pocket was an entry level magic skill that he learned from the supreme magician that came years ago to check him out. Upon realizing he couldn’t cultivate, he gave Kyo a bunch of magic manuals for him to study since he felt sorry for him. However with Kyo’s almost nonexistent spirit power, he could only use three basic non-offensive magic. Dimensional Pocket was one of it.
“Why does senior covert it? Obviously your cultivation is that of a Saint Champion or even Saint Lord!” Kyo struggled to get the words out, the fruit was useless for such experts. He was met by a stone cold stare that showed no signs of mercy filled with killing intent. Kyo had been at the ends of many kind of stares. Contempt, pity, jealously, anger, and such but never had one stared at him with the intention to kill. Mostly because he was just a cripple and wasn’t worth killing.
“Here.” Kyo quickly replied, a small black tear appeared beside his hand and a giant peach-like fruit with an unworldly sweet aroma instantly seeped out. The fruit was his only hope of ever turning his life around but it is not worth dying for. The fruit itself was glistening with silver radiance and golden sparks fell from it. Even Kyo who had never advanced past the entry of Saint Rookie could feel that a miraculous and profound spiritual energy was emitted by the fruit.
The stranger quickly released Kyo and grabbed the divine fruit with both hands. It was as if that fruit was his or her own child. Holding the divine fruit like it was the most important object in the world, the stranger had forgotten all about Kyo who was struggling to get up from the edge of the cliff.
“Finally…” A soft and gentle voice escaped from the stranger’s lips except this time.
Kyo who almost made it back up the cliff froze when he heard that voice. He had not heard this voice for many years but he could never forget it. It was a voice no human could forget. This was the very first voice one would hear even before they emerged to the world. This was the voice belonging to his very own mother!
His own mother barely talks to him after he was revealed to be worthless in the world of cultivation. He couldn’t entirely blame her since he knows what type of culture the Huang clan has. Yet he couldn’t believe that she would steal against her very own son!
Why would she do this? Looking closer he noticed that the baggy black clothes were hiding a tiny bump at her belly. Then the horrible and heartbreaking realization sank in. A pain worse than everything he had endured for the past decade combined struck him at his very core. Her own mother, a High Priest of the clan, was sacrificing him so that her second child would not turn out to be a cripple like him.
Kyo instantly let go of his hands and allowed gravity to pull him backwards. An insane laugh followed as his figure disappeared down the mountain. He knows that after his mother finishes admiring the divine fruit, he would have been silenced forever. She planned to grant the whole fruit to her next newborn so his or her foundation would be near perfect. In order to do that, no one must know that she has the divine fruit or higher powers will take it from her. No matter how tough a person is, a backstab from your own mother is impossible to defend against completely. This shocking betrayal had severed any ties Kyo has to the world and created a lifelong enmity against the Huang clan.
