Chapter 4: Erica

Gwen walked in with the entourage of servants, and Victor courteously offered his hand to invite her into the conference room. The two walked side by side. Along the way, Gwen examined Victor, and glimpsed the jet-black one-eyed raven perched on his shoulder.

Once they entered the conference room, Victor gestured to the servants nearby, who promptly left, closing the door behind them. Gwen and Victor then took their seats.

Gwen coolly asked, "Have you received the invitation from the academy?"

Victor tapped his fingers on the table and replied, "Yes, I have."

After his response, the air in the room suddenly grew colder. Victor could not fathom Gwen's current attitude towards him. Though they were betrothed, she was the one who ultimately killed him. Victor felt Gwen had no feelings for him whatsoever. Yet, she had also helped him.

The professorship invitation from the academy naturally came with the Delin family's recommendation. Victor grew increasingly perplexed.

If he could improve his relationship with Gwen, perhaps he could avoid a tragic end. Victor waved his hand, and five vials of crimson life potions appeared on the table in front of Gwen.

"Please, accept these," he said.

Gwen merely glanced at them, showing no intention of taking them.

Seeing her proud demeanor, Victor sighed and continued, "This is a token of my gratitude for your help. I heard from Liya that I do not wish to be in your debt."

He looked at Gwen with his ebony eyes. Gwen turned her head away, biting her lip in conflict, and then asked, "Yesterday, did you really confess to the duke's daughter?"

Victor fell silent. He himself did not know whether the "Victor" from yesterday had done such a thing. That Victor was vastly different from the one today.

Seeing his continued silence, Gwen believed he had indeed attempted to seduce the underage girl. Her face flushed red as she scolded, "Victor! How could you do such a thing? The duke's daughter is only seventeen! You tried to take advantage of an underage girl!"

It seemed everyone now knew of his failed attempt to harass the young lady. As an extremely righteous knight, Gwen could not tolerate such behavior. If this issue was not properly resolved, it could become a rift between Victor and Gwen in the future. Victor had to handle it carefully.

With a heavy heart, Victor said, "I hope you understand that I do not have any interest in the young lady from the duke's household."

Gwen glared at him and continued, "But this matter has already become widely known."

Looking into her eyes, which reflected anger and exasperation, Victor replied solemnly, "I will resolve this issue properly. I will not let the gossip continue to envelop us."

Victor knew well that this scandal would not only bring shame to his own Klevena family, but also to the Delin family, with whom he was betrothed. The Delin family had helped him, and in doing so, had also helped themselves.

Gwen opened her mouth but could not find the words. She looked at Victor, sensing some change in him, though she could not pinpoint exactly what was different.

Gwen stood up, took the potion bottles, and as she turned to leave, said to Victor, "If you have any difficulties, come find me. I will help you."

With that, she pushed open the door and left.

Victor let out a sigh of relief.

Vega, the one-eyed raven, perched on his shoulder and mockingly commented, "Who was that?"

"My fiancée," Victor replied, somewhat resigned.

The raven looked at him with pity, caressing its own feathers with its beak. "She is very sensitive. Her gaze is terrifying, as if she can see through me. Fortunately, I only appear to be an ordinary raven."

Victor had no words in response.

"But the one-eyed raven is anything but ordinary," he said.

The next day, Victor arrived at the academy as agreed. The Royal Magic Academy lived up to its name, with only the privileged and talented studying there. Those with exceptional magical aptitude could attend tuition-free, but in return, they were required to serve the royal household in the future.

Looking at the grand magic academy, Victor recalled the scenes from the game. He remembered there was a massive library here, where mage players could study various levels of magic.

Victor planned to go there and learn some incredibly powerful skills to bolster his magical abilities. Although his own magic was already sufficient, as a player, he could never have too many skills to provide a greater sense of security.

The contract had been delivered to Victor's hands the previous day. He was now a high-level professor at the Royal Magic Academy.

On his first visit to the academy, he proactively went to see the dean. After a brief greeting, the dean instructed him to attend the best class in the entire academy, in order to demonstrate his abilities.

After leaving the dean's office, he made his way to the Mage Tower based on the memories in his mind.

The Mage Tower, also called the Trial Tower, is a place where players can undergo a trial once a day. Passing the trial will grant a large amount of experience.

The tall tower was majestic, soaring up to the clouds. The walls were covered in all kinds of magic formations, and as one looked up, the hazy ripples obscured one's vision, as if containing some profound mystery.

Victor approached the Mage Tower and touched the barrier, feeling a slight tremor of magical power within him.

[Identity verification successful, Professor Victor, welcome back to the Mage Tower.]

A gentle black mist appeared, and before he knew it, he had been teleported inside the tower.

"So that was a teleportation formation."

After climbing the stairs, all kinds of mineral stones imbued with powerful magic were scattered throughout the tower, and the books were neatly organized, a stark contrast to the appearance outside.

Seeing the spotless floor, Victor immediately realized that the place had been cleaned.

He heard a startled exclamation from behind and turned around.

A short-haired young woman appeared before Victor, her glowing yellow eyes gazing at him. Perhaps because Victor was staring at her, her cheeks were flushed, and she asked in a slightly trembling voice, "Are you Mr. Victor?"

Victor turned back and acknowledged it.

The young lady then said, though the nervousness had not diminished at all, "I... I am Hernie, your teaching assistant," and handed Victor a lecture script, "You just need to memorize this before the afternoon class, and you can lecture according to the content in the script."

Victor took the lecture script, gave it a light scan, and nodded, "Thank you."

Hernie became flustered and quickly scurried out of Victor's office.

Victor thought to himself, "The academy has indeed covered all the bases."

Now, no one in this school knew the true extent of Victor's knowledge, even though he was a powerful third-rank mage.

Although the school had given him the position of a professor, it was solely based on his magical talent. If Victor were just a mediocre individual, even with the recommendation of two families, he would not have been able to become a professor here.

What he needed to do now was to lecture using the school's script. As long as he delivered it flawlessly, at least the outside world would see it, and they would not be able to find any fault.

The professors of our Royal Academy must not be half-baked!

Victor picked up the lecture script again and looked it over. After all, since there was a ready-made one to use, why not take advantage of it?

Noon passed in a flash, and the afternoon weather was even more pleasant.

All kinds of distinguished guests were waiting for the young professor of the Royal Magic Academy to give his lecture, equally curious as to whether this long-reclusive genius professor was just a gimmick cooked up by the academy.

When Victor arrived in the classroom, he had already memorized the lecture content thoroughly. He only needed to take out a portion of it and deliver it to easily get through this.

That was how Victor had planned it.

But when he scanned the classroom and saw a golden-haired enchantress sitting in the front row, he changed his mind.

She was 17 years old, the student with the highest talent in the Royal Magic Academy in recent years. Her family background was also exceptionally distinguished - the daughter of a duke.

Erica Du Chloe.

He had not expected that the person he had provoked the other day would become his student.

Erica had naturally also noticed him, her beautiful eyes shimmering with curiosity, her thoughts unreadable.

'So this is the young beauty who was on the front page of the newspaper the other day. She's quite pretty, let me see... Tsk, tsk, she's not even that old, but she's already a second-rank mage. Impressive.'

Vega whispered to Victor from his shoulder.

The reason Vega could come to the classroom with Victor was that the Royal Magic Academy did not prohibit the keeping of pets, nor did it restrict the type of pets. The dean himself kept a watermelon with eyes.

Compared to that kind of creature, a single-eyed crow was not considered an unusual species.

Victor cleared his throat and addressed the students in the classroom,

"I am Victor Klevena, a professor at the Royal Magic Academy, and now your teacher."

"Today's lecture topic is 'The Impact of Formation Construction on Advanced Magic Systems'."

...

Victor gradually became more fluent, immersing himself in the lecture, and time passed quickly.

Around forty minutes later, he glanced at his watch and saw it was already 4 o'clock in the afternoon, and he waved his hand.

"Class dismissed."

He couldn't help but feel relieved in his heart.

Great, this class went well without any issues, and no one asked any questions - it went very smoothly.

Victor was preparing to leave, when Erica, who was sitting in the front row, suddenly raised her hand with a slight smile.

"Professor, I have a question. Could you please answer it for me?"

Upon hearing this, Victor's expression darkened a bit.

Just as he expected, someone has come to stir up trouble.
