The Phoenix - Chapter 3

Back when Mirabelle had been working as a waitress, one day Buster brought someone along with him. He was a slender grizzly bear with the face of a teenage boy despite being older than she was. He was wearing a labcoat over a vest, looking very prim and proper compared to Buster's functional scrubs.

"I made a new friend! This is Kincade, from the College of Pharmaceutics." he introduced them proudly, and now Mirabelle had a new friend as well.

She found Kincade to be a charming and pleasant friend at first. But as time went on she noticed things that made her uncomfortable: just as Buster had been oblivious of her interest in him until she asked him out, he didn't seem to realize that Kincade was into him as well.

Once she visited Kincade after work and he got a little too drunk and personal. "I wish I looked like Buster." he said bluntly, "I'm a skinny bear, I hate it. You're so lucky to have all that."

The next morning she approached Buster. "I don't want you to hang out with Kincade. He's too sexual, he makes me uncomfortable."

"Okay." said Buster without paying too much mind. Kincade was just an idle acquaintance to him, so no big deal. These were his final days in University before entering the workforce, friendship was as disposable as it would ever be.
