- Starting part three: Magic and Spell training

- Using magic is a simple task even for the newly initiated.

- Magic is a part of every living being and using it is similar in some respects to breathing.

- To use a spell, one must reach inside of themselves and feel the flow of magical energy, also known as mana.

- To simplify the process, the system will send a small pulse along the flow for the user to feel. Be sure to grasp its location and memorize it.

And just like that I feel the same feeling as when I first encountered the magic. In the back of somewhere it hums with movement for a moment then goes quiet once again. But looking closer I can tell it hasn't stopped, it's still moving just ever so slowly.

- Pulse complete

- The feeling the user felt was the flow of mana.

- In order to cast spells and use magic one must pull on this flow while wishing to perform an action or cast a spell.

- Saying the name of a spell out loud can help novice casters focus on properly caring, but is not required unless stated in the spell description.

- Spells and Magic may also have verbal, movement, or component based requirements for casting.

- Additional requirements will be listed in the spell's description.

- The spells and magic window does not need to be open in order to cast.

- Please demonstrate proficiency by casting a spell or magic from your available set.

- Please choose carefully as some spells and magic may have undesirable side effects.

Finally the stream of information stops drilling into my mind long enough for me to actually focus on reading the new window in front of me. Oh how wonderful, now I can blow out peoples ear drums, maybe I'll use it on the twins. And flight magic, well that somehow seems fitting. Now I can fly in other ways, which might be useful actually. And when I read the final spell's description, I can't help but laugh. So it will steal away my humanity, but give me the opportunity to keep playing at being human, like some sort of twisted joke. Oh fucking laugh it up magic, ha ha ha!

I give myself light slaps on the cheeks to refocus before I can devolve back into crying and hysterics again. I should be thinking of this as a good thing, now I can at least go back to a somewhat normal life. The thought of not having run for the rest of my life brought a lot of relief to my anxiety and fear. But I can't get ahead of myself, first I need to make this work. So I guess I'll try Mimicry. So all I need to do is pull on the flow while wanting something to happen right? Easy.

So that's what I do. I close my eyes and reach out and pull on the flow of magic while visualizing myself as I should be. It takes a second, but suddenly the magic starts increasing in flow rate with every passing moment. I feel parts of me start to shift, for lack of a better term, and I open my eyes to watch as the horns slowly shrink in size before shrinking away entirely. My vision goes blurry for a second before returning to normal and revealing my normal brown eyes. I release the flow in surprise, caught off guard by how effective it is. Instantly the flow starts to thin, and I feel the changes start to revert. In a bit of a panic I grab the flow and start pulling again, and to my relief the spell picks back up right where it left off.

My wings start to shrink and press into my back. Meanwhile I can feel the tail slowly starting to curl in on itself and roll back up towards my lower back. The feeling of the tail and wings is something I don't like, and the weird sensations they give off while slowly merging with the rest of my body makes me shiver a bit. But just like that it's done, and I look as normal as I did yesterday when I woke up. Well, normal if you take away the dried snot and messy makeup. Feeling the flow I sense that the draw has gone down to a steady but small stream to sustain the spell. It seems that it had a large initial investment but a much lower sustain cost. I wonder if all spells are like that? Thankfully I don't need to keep concentrating to keep the spell up, it seems to automatically maintain itself after it's up and running.

I give myself an experimental poke above the ears, not believing it was that simple to just look normal again. But there is nothing there, all I feel is normal skin and my skull underneath. This is all too surreal, like I'm on some sort of bad gag TV show. I feel around behind me and sure enough the tail and wings are also gone. And I can't feel any of my new extremities to boot. I let out a small laugh at the absurdity of it and walk back over to my bed to lay down. I sit there for a moment just breathing, no thoughts, no movements, just empty minded existence. Until I remember the system, and how it hasn't said I was done yet and resumed its info dumb. Don't tell me I need to turn the spell off to finish the stupid proficiency task thing.

I take a deep breath and hold it for a moment, then exhale. I'm not normally a super anxious person, I've learned to live with curveballs in life. This though, this might be too much for me. I let out a sigh and accept the inevitable. I reach in and grab the branch of mana feeding the spell and try to push it back. I feel it respond and start to slowly lessen, decreasing its draw as I feel my body starting to change back to what it was. It feels like an exact reversal of the first process, just a lot quicker and freaky feeling. I shiver a bit as the wings pop free and twitch a little bit, the sensation of them returning as they grow back to full size. I feel the horns pop out above my ears and the tail rapidly extend outward before coming to rest in the air behind me.

I feel my anxiety mounting and my heart rate increasing as I stare at myself in the mirror once more. This has to be a dream or something right? I'll wake up soon and it will all be gone.

- Congratulations user, you have taken the first steps on the road to mastering magic.

- Spells and magics may have differing mana costs and cost types.

- Some spells may only require a static amount of mana to cast, these spells usually have an output that cannot be varied or changed

- Some spells may have a range of mana input, with output or effect changing based on input.

I blink the phantoms out of my eyes as the final messages fade away from the back of my mind. That was a lot to take in, but at least it was a good distraction. Magic, I have fucking magic! This shit is so cool, and also the garbage that turned me into…. This. I don't know whether I should jump for joy or cry in the corner some more. One the one hand, I'm a fucking demon now! On the other, magic can fix that…. Probably. Well, OK, I sure as hell don't know if it's one hundred percent possible to turn back into a human, but I'm betting it is. Polymorph spells exist and I've heard that high powered spells in that category can have permanent effects, not that I've seen any myself. But I know someone who would know for certain, or at least know where to start. But can I really trust him enough to not turn me in? Well I, maybe the better question is would he trust me enough not to turn me in? Well, only one way to find out, time to call Charles.
