Prologue- the deal
Ttring ttring!
Ttring ttring!
Roger sighed as he answered the phone. “Hello? He said. “Hey roger, what’s up?” The voice said. “What do you want” Roger asked. “I’ve already said that I won’t be available for testing this month John.”
“no, no, that’s not it at all! Hehe. In fact, it has to do with the game, more specifically your profile.”
“what’s it about?”
“Well, how do I put this. Have you read the forums lately?” John asked.
“Can’t say I have, why?”
“Well, there are a lot of people complaining about your character, Chronos. Almost all the top pvpers and plenty others are threatening to quit the game because it’s ‘Too unfair’, Because your character is so good.
“so? I don’t care, I worked hard to get my character to the top. It’s not like my character is completely unbalanced, there are plenty of downsides to it too.”
And there was. There were many downsides to being a time mage. First and foremost, the class is Time mage. That’s it. There are no alterations, hybrids, advancements, nothing. It may be a slightly overpowered beginner class, but you’re stuck with a beginner class.
Second of all, the experience penalty. The time mage class requires 2.25x the amount of experience a normal player needs to reach the next level.
Third, the stat boost from leveling up. The way Immortality online works, is that players gain ten stat points for leveling up, that they can use anywhere in their status, no matter the class. They also get five stats that they can only allocate to certain places, decided by their class. Time mages manipulate, well, time, meaning they stop start, fast forward, and slow down time. While this is powerful, Time magic does no damage. Zero, zilch, nada. This means, they need to invest in three main stats. Strength, to do damage, agility to quickly get to a target without waste of mana, and wisdom for mana potency, higher mana pool, and mana regen. Intelligence doesn’t have much use yet, because, well time magic does no damage, and its other use, mana manipulation, is useless with the time mage class, because of the fourth negative to the time mage class.
Immortality Online boasts 90% realism, the ten percent not real being the 10% pain, lack of need to go to the bathroom, the ability to revive, and the glowing blue boxes. This means, that without the system assist, players can still use magic. They can feel it, manipulate it, control it, and create new, more powerful spells. All of this is governed by the intelligence stat.
If you come across this story on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from Royal Road. Please report it.
The time mage doesn’t have that. It was a class quickly cobbled together, and doesn’t have a mana system. Time magic didn’t even exist before they created it for Roger. This means there is no way to manipulate time without the system assist. You can try and experiment all you want, but all you will do is waste mana. You can’t even replicate the system assist spells, because, unlike other spells, they just take mana and happen. There is no feel of what’s happening, no sense of how to do it. There is nothing. You can’t create new, better spells, make the old spells more efficient, sense mana, or reinforce yourself. Reinforce yourself particularly, as basically the time mage class as it is now is a glorified monk with buffs, being it has no attack magic and it cannot equip anything other than staffs.
Roger worked through all that, trained his skills and body to the limit, and made it through the extremely hard early game time mage, what with its insane mana cost spells, into the rewarding late game. Even with the experience penalty, he became the top level character. That means, if he didn’t have the experience penalty, he would be more than double his current level. An example of this is the fact that at to get to level 200, he needed the same experience a normal player needed to get to level 425.But enough about this, back to the call.
“It’s not like people know that, what with you never giving any details about your class.” John admonished. “Anyway, with all of their threatening, and nonstop annoying, we are stick in a kinda hard spot. We had to make a choice, so we are going to offer you a deal.”
“What is it? You better not give up to those losers and nerf me.”
“umm…”
“No, no way, if you nerf me I’ll quit.”
Woah, woah, hold your horses, we know this is unfair, and we can’t nerf you because your not overpowered, so we have to give you something in return. I have a message for you. *clears throat*"
"Hello, This is the head of the Immortality online time compression research division, with a letter to Roger Skye, concerning his character. We know that this is sudden, and unfair, but in order to satisfy them, and not ruin your character and its build, we have decided to give you an offer to…………”
Roger “WHAT??”
