The silent witch

A name only known among the powerful and called upon by few, this enigmatic figure who remains a powerful secret. Their reputation precedes them, and though few are aware of their accomplishments, many are familiar with the rumors that surround them.

People speculate about the alleged lives they believe the silent witch has taken, and some even attribute their own misfortune to her, as if she were the devil or the bogeyman. Very few know the true extent of their power, other than the fact that they are a 10th tier mage, and their whereabouts are always anonymous.

They became a prominent figure during the holy wars, thanks to their knowledge and assistance in bringing an end to the powerful Church of Pride. This group worshipped the God Lioness, the God of Pride.

The silent witch was rumored to be the only person ever chosen by the goddess of secrets, Serpentine, although the reason for this selection remained unknown. Even during that time, the silent witch maintained an air of mystery, making it impossible for anyone to ascertain their appearance.

She possessed the gift of sight bestowed upon her by Serpentine, which played a crucial role in her ability to contribute to the war. Having already foreseen its conclusion, she only needed to ensure that events unfolded as planned in order to bring an end to the Church of Pride, but as powerfull as the gift Serpentine gave her was, it was only able to inform her of big world changing events, so she only saw the effects of what the church of pride had done and not the cause, lucky for her she had other ways of figuring out the cause, and used accordingly , but more on that later.

The god worshipped by the Church of Pride was among the 27 true gods, and was one of the top 7 of the 27 true gods, the top 7 of these gods were the ones to initiate the war. The other true gods either allied themselves with one of the top 7 gods or remained neutral, minding their own business till it was over . This particular war stemmed from petty feuds and debates among the gods, which were instigated by both the god of Pride and the god of Order.

Through this debate between gods, they decided to pit the mortal churches against one another in order to settle their feuds. The reason for this was mostly because targeting a god's following was the most effective way to harm a god.

This was because only a few gods could thrive without the assistance of mortals who worshipped them, as it was through this reverence that they gained power. Those gods who could exist independently were known as "arc gods," and they were responsible for the creation of all the true gods, as they gave birth to them.

Serpentine was indeed one of those arc gods. Due to the fact that arc gods did not require worship, they typically refrained from interfering in the mortal world. However, Serpentine was an exception. She found the mortal world to be intriguing and decided to meddle in it. She gave birth to only one true god for this purpose.

Serpentine sent her daughter, the goddess of darkness, to find someone interesting for her to interact with. Surprisingly, that person turned out to be the daughter of a high noble house who was rejected by her family simply because she was a woman. Despite all the spells and precautions taken to ensure she would be born a boy, yet she still was born a girl which was supposed to be impossible.

The precautions her family took, although forbidden, were proven to be a 100% effective method in determining the sex of their child. However, in the case of little Maven, who was born into the Blackson family, these methods failed.

As a result, the family left her to be cared for by their maids and nannies while also attempting to conceive another child for several years until they finally succeeded in having a baby boy when Maven was 5 years old.

Despite Maven's shortcomings, she never let her situation bring her down. She worked hard to become a powerful mystic like her parents, both of whom were 9th-tier mages. For a while, she believed she was making progress until her brother reached the age to start practicing magic. To her surprise, he displayed a remarkable talent and was able to cast his first spell two years earlier than Maven, which she was only able to do so at 4.

By the time he was 5, he had already reached the 3rd tier, while Maven had barely made it to the second tier at that age. Now, at the age of 10, Maven was just reaching the 4th tier, while her brother was close to achieving it at such a young age

And what made it worse for her was how much her mother and father praised and rewarded him, while she was constantly ignored and sent away whenever she was in their presence. Believe it or not, Maven's brother, named Mafen, was actually pretty nice to her, at least for the first 16 years of their relationship.

It was the one connection she had that made her feel like she belonged, even if only a little bit. Although she felt a tinge of jealousy towards her brother, she never let it overshadow her love for him. With time, those feelings slowly started to fade away, although.

Unfortunately, for Maven, Serpentine already knew how this story would end, and she knew it wasn't an ending Maven would like. So she just continued to watch until the sad day finally came. When mafen was 16, he started to notice how people treated him. Honestly, he had noticed before, but it never bothered him until recently when people started to treat him differently because of his association with his sister.

His friends would try to hang around him less, and he would get disappointed stares whenever he was around her. It wasn't bad at first, until those stares started to linger even when she wasn't around. His parents started talking to him less and even made suggestions of having another child. Then one day, his friends stopped putting in the effort to see him, his parents did have that child and stopped giving him attention altogether, and those stares turned into avoiding gazes. He was being shunned. This was when Mafen fell into a huge depression.

Maven tried to comfort him when she started realizing what was happening. She put in as much effort as possible to cheer him up and bring him out of his funk. She planned special outings with him and made silly jokes to get him to smile, which always worked. She also defended and advocated for him when people tried to talk down to him.

In her eyes, it seemed like she was helping him feel better and that he was slowly starting to cheer up. And he was, but that didn't last long. Eventually, he found his way back into the dumps. Then, one day, the Blackson family received bad news that their new son didn't have a lick of magic in him and was an aura user. This was terrible news for the Blackson parents. This caused them to seek out Mafen one last time to see if they could get him to come to his senses and see things their way.

So, one night, Clare and Cole, Maven and Mafen's parents, decided to give Mafen an ultimatum: either cut ties with Maven and regain their parents' approval, or leave with Maven and go live on the outskirts of the city, losing access to the Blackson household. This was news to Mafen; it was actually the first time something like sending Maven away had come up. After this encounter, Mafen went to tell Maven about it the next day.

When she asked what he had chosen, he said he would leave with her in a week and be cast out of the Blackson household. As sad as Maven was for her brother being cast out along with her, and honestly wishing he had chosen to stay, considering how bad he had been feeling lately, she was also really happy that she wouldn't be out in the world alone. At least they would be together and conquer the world as a team. Believe it or not, she was happy to be chosen over her parents by the one friend she had ever had.

A week passed and Maven's stuff was packed in a caravan that she and her brother were supposed to ride to the outskirts of the city, to stay in an estate owned by an uncle of theirs. So, she made her way to the caravan, expecting to see Mafen in the same caravan since he wasn't in his room. However, she was surprised to see another caravan next to her own with Mafen in it.

She thought it was weird that they would be in separate caravans, but she didn't think too deeply about it at the time. She went up to his caravan, joked around about the current situation, talked to him a bit, and then went to her own caravan. Once she did, her happy and chatty facade disappeared, and all that could be seen on her face was despair. She then motioned at the caravan rider and asked.

"Wheres he going" she said this in a somber emotionless tone

"Oh I see you cought on smart one I guess, his going to the academy of Pisces to study the mystic arts, don't ask me any more then that. I only know that much Because I had a chat what his rider before he came out."

"Huh I guess he did lie to me. I was hoping he didn't but I guess I can be wrong, said maven with not a ounce of emotion in her tone."

"Yeah I'm sorry I really am, but I'm sure in time things may be different for you both."

"It won't, I wish It could be but this is the course are lives will be on until the end from here on I'll miss him though."

And with that, the courageous individuals went off and embarked on their separate paths. However, there was a big problem – this was not the course of events that was meant to take place at this moment. Somehow, Maven escaped her own destiny. Maven was supposed to have given Mafen a piece of her mind and completely lose control on her magic. Through this process but not immediately, she would experience a certain set of complex emotions that were supposed to make her power more difficult to control.

Once she finished going of on mafen for lying to her, because she honestly perfered he stayed home the only problem she had with this situation was that he lied. she was intended to make her way back into her courage and allow her emotions to fester until they eventually caused a magical explosion that would claim both her and the courage riders' lives.

You see, Maven had an undiagnosed magical disease that was created from complications in the womb. This was related to the spells they attempted to use on her when she was younger, in an effort to change her to their desired sex. However, due to a mistake made by the person in charge of the spell, a misspelling occurred, causing an excessive amount of mana to take hold and hide in her heart. It was surprising that she didn't die at that time, and how she survived remains unknown, even to Serpentine. And now, she had survived this incident as well. It is yet another strange occurrence involving Maven, which piqued Serpentine's interest even more.

Now, because of her family's shortcomings, she not only became a dark mage, but she made her home in the shadows. Maven now lives in the blind spots of all the most important figures and even allies with some, not as the silent witch, but under several aliases entirely. This was due to how little of an eye the owner of the estate she lived in had on her.

Maven also happened to be able to shape-shift, a gift not many can do and is usually only something a very few select races are gifted with in their lineage. Some can learn to do something similar to this by using illusion and charms, but there is no spell that can fully allow someone to morph and shape their body on an atomic level.

The only reason why Maven is capable of doing this is because she happens to be a part of a race of sub-humans called "shaftens". All of the Blackson family is except her mother, who is just a human. In the shaften race, only a few are able to gain access to this ability, and given Maven's luck, she's the only one in her family to have it.

This was a huge asset to Maven during the war because even before the holy war, Maven had been involved with many of the churches that were involved in the war, including the Church of Pride. Maven did this out of necessity. During this time, the cursed as a whole were frowned upon, sought out, and killed for sport.

Although everyone frowned upon dark mages and knights, most of the churches despised them the most and would go out of their way to organize the murder of the cursed. Maven obviously knew this, and if it was up to her, she would never have become a dark mage. Unfortunately, the mana trapped in her heart was casted by a forbidden spell, meaning it was black mana, and a lot of it. The only way she could continue living was to become a dark mage, or sooner or later, the black mana would start having negative effects on her body and eventually kill her

So now that maven was a dark mage in order to stay in the loop of what was going on with churches and how they where moving so that she could work in the dark arts with out the fear of the churches coming after her, she inserted her self in there orders of operation in any way she could, she usually did this by offering a service of any sort rather it was alchemy or being a hired sword. She would do it, and do to her linage she was able to do so and perfectly hid her dark magic affiliation from them the only way anyone could find out is of the shared her linage.

This was a means of survival. If she could help it, she probably wouldn't have done any of that, due to how taxing it was to juggle having to go to so many different locations, keep up with multiple aliases and various personalities, along with finding time to study and become stronger. But it was a much-needed necessity in order to stay alive. She wasn't strong enough during this time to fend against so many enemies herself.

So she decided to live in the blind spots of her enemies while they were planning, preparing, and hunting their prey. She was there, watching and biding her time. Sometimes, she would sell information as a way to have a hold on that market as well. But she didn't just sell information for money, no; she would trade information with others who would do the same. She would even make connections and foster relationships with people she traded information with in order to have reach and opportunities she could take advantage of.

Maven did this until she became strong enough and knowledgeable enough to have people work under her and take on some of her caseload, allowing her to focus on her own needs and build her strength. During this time, Maven developed a keen interest in biology creation magic, a practice aimed at creating clone homunculi and chimeras.

Additionally, You see, a lot of the hard work and time she invested in infiltrating various churches was driven by her desire to influence the course of the war and ensure her own survival. Moreover, Maven hoped to utilize her contributions as a means to stop the massacre of the cursed, if possible.

And once the war had ended and she was able to kill the head priest of the Church of Pride, she was able to achieve exactly that. However, despite her contribution in ensuring that they would no longer unjustly kill dark mages and knights, it didn't change the fact that she herself was a dark mage and still viewed as a disgrace. Due to this reality, instead of revealing her identity as the one who killed the head priest of the Church of Pride, they decided to attribute the credit to one of the strongest mystics in the rankings and among the highest-ranking mystics known as the Five Moons: Mafen, the Quarter Moon.
