Adore recently found herself nervously sitting on an airplane after having received some bad news while she was in France regarding her health. You see, about a year ago, before her trip to Europe, Adore had been informed that she had lung cancer. After many complications and doctor visits that ended with no one knowing what was truly wrong with her, she decided to take a trip and indulge in a hobby of hers that she found enjoyable and make it a full-time project.
What helped her make this decision was the fact that she was told she only had a few years left to live. Because of this, she decided that she didn't want to slave away at her job, full of people who didn't like her, during the little time she had left. The hobby she decided to pursue full-time was mouse collecting. The time she spent exploring and collecting mice in these past few years was actually the only time she had ever tried to do so. She had been too embarrassed to do it before, as she thought people might find it strange to have so many mice living in her house. Now, none of that matters. She didn't have time left to care about what people around her thought. She just wanted to do something she enjoyed with the time she had left.
France was actually her last stop during her time collecting and adopting mice. And outside of what she was there for, she actually found herself enjoying her stay a lot. She had gone there to obtain two Eurasian Harvest mice, known to be in Europe. She found someone selling one in France, and that's how she ended up there. These mice would have been the 50th mice she added to her collection, a goal she was actually reaching for; unfortunately, she was only able to obtain one.
Around the time she obtained this mouse, she received news that forced her to head back home before she could collect the second mouse. Now, Adore found herself returning home with the last mouse she had collected, and unfortunately, it seemed like she might not be able to collect anymore. This was because the doctors had examined her charts and identified something they hadn't seen before. If they had assessed the information they were given correctly, Adore may have only a few weeks left.
This was terrible news for Adore, but there was nothing she could do about it. Regardless of that fact, in order to be sure of their claims, they wanted to go over what they had found in person, which is why she was making her way home.
On her way home, the plane she was on started to shake and vibrate; this was very concerning to the staff on the plan and, in turn, caused them to make an emergency landing and perform immediate maintenance that was much needed in order to ensure the safety of the passengers. The maintenance would take a day or so, leaving Adore to find herself in a random country in Europe for the night.
During her stay in the country, She found herself in a cheap inn with basic accommodations to make her stay as comfortable as possible. And she did just that for the rest of the night until late at night, when she was sleeping in her room. She had heard someone screaming outside her room as if their lives were in danger. This scared her at first, making her contemplate calling the front desk to inform them of the situation, but curiosity got the better of her, and she decided to peek and see what was causing all the commotion before informing the office since she didn't really know the number for law enforcement in the current country she was in.
And to her surprise, outside her door was a man chasing a little black mouse with a purple tail and eyes. Oddly enough, behind the man was a lady screaming to the top of her lungs. This scean was a little funny to Adore, but she also was shook at the mouse's color palette; she had never seen or heard of a mouse that fit this description before, besides a species of mouse with the name Nonagouti. But that didn't explain the purple. So, she found herself very intrigued. Adore quickly and sneakily moved in the direction the man was chasing the mouse and went in the opposite direction of the man before scooping it up after every sneakily creaping up on it.
"Kill that disgusting thing! Hurry up before it gets into someone's room," said the man who was chasing the mouse with a broom.
"I will; don't worry, I'm going to make my way outside and do it so I can keep it from stinking up the building."
When Adore said this, the mouse started to tremble in her palms as if it could understand her somehow, but Adore obviously wasn't going to kill the mouse for her love for them. She was honestly just waiting for the two people to make their way back to their rooms so she could do the same and take the mouse with her. She had already planned on getting two mice on this trip anyway, since she wasn't able to collect two this time around. There was a cage ready for the new little mouse in her hands.
"Ok, well, do it quickly, and wash your hands."Who knows where that foul creature has been? "said the man.
Adore nodded her head in agreement as the two people commenced to walk towards their room in relief. When they were far enough away and they were no longer looking, she quickly ran to her room, closed the door, and made her way to her bed with her hand still caged around the little mouse.
"Awwww, look at you! You must be terrified. Well, don't worry. No one's going to try to harm you ever again. I'm going to feed you, give you lots of love, and take good care of you, little one," Adore said to the mouse.

Adore said this with a warm and loving expression, making the mouse feel a little more relaxed, but not too much. This human had just said they were going to kill her, so she was still a little reluctant to just believe what this lady was saying. Besides, all humans usually had the same reaction to her, and every encounter usually ended with them trying to kill her.
"Aww, omg, your so freaking adorable, said Adore to the mouse.
Adore then started gently petting the little mouse with her finger. Oddly, the mouse liked the sensation, and the worries she had before slowly started to fade away. She started to lean into the finger that was petting her, showing that she wanted more of this sensation.
"Oh wow, aren't you a little glutton? I can't just keep petting you all night; hey, why don't you play with little Alice over here while I get yall some food from my luggage for y'all to eat?"
Adore, then put the oddly colored mouse in a cage with a very hyper mouse with golden-brown fur and a white underside. It was on the chubbier side, but really cute. The mouse hyperly trotted over to its visitor, and they began sniffing each other before gently wrestling and playing with each other all over the cage. Adore had finally found the food for the mice after wrecking absolute havoc on her luggage and making a big mess that she wasn't too fond of having to clean.
"Here you go, little ones."
Adore opened the door and put some more food in a cute little box big enough for both of them. They quickly ran to the boul and began eating up their food as adore watched with a flushed face because the sight of them eating was the most adorable thing. Their mouths would feel up ever so slightly as their cheeks began to swell up before they began to swallow their food.
"Awwww, I can't wait to take lots of pictures of you all when I get home."
Adore then made her way to her bed and dramatically threw herself on it. She lay there for a sec and thought to herself.
"Wow, it may be time for my life to come to a close. I hope all my adorable little babies can find new homes after I'm gone."
----------------------------- 6 hours later
The next day, Adore could be seen rushing around, forcing her stuff back into her luggage. She had forgotten to fix the mess she had made the other night, and she only had under an hour to get all her stuff together, along with her mice, to board the plane.
"Omg, what possessed me not to put all of this stuff up the other night? Ugh, I'm so dumb sometimes."
While she was saying this, she was throwing her stuff into suitcases as quickly as possible. Knowing the process could take her over 20 minutes on a good day, she was very frantic about it. As she was doing this, the mice were looking at her with curious gazes, wondering why she was moving so fast and making so many weird faces while swearing.
"Finally, I'm done. Ok, let's get out of here. I still have time to be there, like 10 minutes early, and maybe get some food." Adore said this out loud, even though she was talking to herself.
"Aw, and I didn't forget about my cute little babies." She then pulled out a box of mouse food before taking the strange-colored mouse out of Alice's cage and putting her in her own for the first time. She gave them both some food and let them eat in their own separate cages. She then made her way to the airport.
------------------------------------- 1 hour later
"Ugh, I wish I could have my babies with me; they must be scared back there alone."
Adore was currently on the plane, making her way home. With 12 hours of waiting ahead of her, she spent it mostly worrying about her large family of mice. She had now collected 45 mice, all ranging in species. Usually, she would collect two of each species, but because of her circumstances, she wasn't able to do that this time around. She was still able to collect two mice, but they were of different species.
She was looking forward to making her way home to see all her mice. As of now, they are being watched and fed by a family member. They were all well-behaved, and she would leave their cages open. They wouldn't dare come out until she allowed them to. She never knew why the mice listened to her so well, but she loved that she didn't have to put in that much effort.
Adore was ready to put as much effort into raising her mice as possible, so she definitely wouldn't mind. But she was not, in any way, sad; she no longer needed to. If anything, she was ecstatic. All she had to do was get the mice, and the rest would work itself out. How convenient!
--------------------------------- 12 HOURS LATER
The flight felt a little longer than Adore thought, but she didn't mind. She was finally home with her mice. She had already had her check-up with the doctor and was told she had a month to live, so she was going to spend her last month happily with her mice to the very end.
"Ok, let's have some fun, kids."
She let her mice out of their cages and allowed them to roam around freely. She only had them go back to bedtime and feeding time so she could be as close to them as possible to distract herself from her cruel reality. She needed this. A week had passed, and she had already started to feel sick, but she pushed on. The mice saw how badly she was doing and took good care of her by giving her lots of affection. The oddly colored mouse was around her the most and grew very attached to Adore. It even led the other mice and would order them around when Adore asked them to go back to their cages.
After two more weeks, Adore wasn't feeling any better, but she didn't feel any worse either, so she paid it no mind and continued to care for her mice, feed them, and give them lots of affection. She also had constant visits with the doctors to ensure she stayed alive until the end of the month. Week 4 came, and she was definitely feeling worse and would only get out of bed to feed her mice.
She had her mom over to help as well, but she would spend most of her time crying. Adore understood that this was hard for her mom and just let her be. On the last day of the month, while Adore was trying to feed her mice, she collapsed and was overwhelmed with weakness that flowed throughout her whole body.
"I guess this is it," said Adore.
While she was on the floor, lost in thought, ready to take her last breath, all her mice made their way to her, enveloped her body, and seemed to be comforting her while shaking and trembling as if they were crying.
The oddly colored mouse was on her face, releasing tears and trembling, leaving Adore in awe. She had never seen a mouse cry before. and what her last breath was, she said.
"You know? You really are a strange little mouse."
And right then, the mouse glowed with a blinding blue-luminous light that enveloped Adore and all of the mice around her. The light only grew bigger and bigger as the mouse cried, until it finally vanished. Adore was now in the dark before she opened her eyes in a wooden house that looked very cabin-like and devoid of any electronic appliances.
"Where am I? Is this heaven? Wait, heaven's a cabin?"
Adore then made her way towards the front door, but on her way, she passed by a mirror and saw that her appearance had changed. She was now a short girl no older than 12 with beautiful dark skin, black hair with big black mouse ears, purple eyes, and a purple and black outfit with a purple tail peeking out.
"Oh wow, wtf, who am I?"
She then walked to the front door and was met with a fantastical display. Big dragon-like creatures were flying in the sky; beautiful meadows of flowers and grass; hills higher than her house; and animals of unknown origin were walking around casually.
"Where the hell am I?"
