CHAPTER 10 - JUST A LITTLE PREMEDITATED MURDER

“Great!” he exclaimed. “I’ll return to my world and pack some stuff and move it over.”

“I’ll do the same,” I replied.

Stepping through the mirror, he was transported to the other realm.

When I saw him leave his room, I picked up my gun off the floor and holstered it.

I wanted to kill him, but maybe I’m being too rash. As easy as it would be to step on over to his world and shoot him with a healed right hand, that’d be a little too evil even for me.

I’ll kill him after it’s confirmed this guy’s a scumbag… damn, maybe I’m actually the evil one.

Slow your roll, William. This guy might not be so bad.

He just coincidentally sounds every alarm in me.

But why?

I need to figure that out first before I can comfortably exit this guy out of his life. It’s just a little premeditated murder…

James would be so much more ashamed of me if he could read my mind.

When my reflection returned to his bedroom with some bags, I said through the mirror, “Hey, just give me a day or so. I want to put some things in order before I leave.”

“Like what?” he questioned.

It was none of his business, but I guess if he was planning on replacing me in this world, he’d probably wanted to know. “Bob owes me some money. I want to swipe it before I leave for good. You might look like me, but that money’s for me, ya know?”

“Sure thing, I need to cover some things, too,”

It was my turn. “Like what?”

“Money things, too. I’ll probably withdraw from my bank account. It’s not like I’ll be back here again.”

“Huh, I’ll do that too. Remember, our times are reversed, so you’ll need to give me some time after I wake up to get things in order.”

“Fine by me.”

I dropped the mirror back on the floor face down.

From inside the reflection, I could hear him sigh. “You know you don’t have to do that. I’m not going to do anything crazy.”

“Just a precaution. You understand, right?”

“Yeah, I get you. See you sometime tomorrow,” he said.

He was being all careful with me earlier with all the monster accusations, but now he’s real open-minded. He must really want to leave his world.

Why?

Is it just because of the reversed hands? Maybe, being the best shot in town again is just that pretty damn appealing.

But I still wouldn’t leave my guard down, so why does he want me to?

He could’ve technically got the drop on me when I returned home, but he didn’t. Has he truly accepted that I’m not some mirror monster about to eat him, now?

Is he actually a good person?

I guess I’ll just have to keep thinking about it tomorrow. It was getting late. I needed to catch some sleep.

Before I could, though, I needed to make sure he couldn’t flip the mirror over again. Taking the one drawer in my bedroom, I moved it atop the mirror. It might’ve not been too heavy, but any noise made would wake me up.

Unholstering my revolver, I tucked it underneath my pillow. If my reflection got any bad ideas, I’d be prepared.

Taking off my holster, I plopped down on my bed and got ready to sleep.

A part of me felt like moving my bed atop the mirror instead, but I wanted him to have a chance to make it inside my room.

It’d be a good reason to put him down. It’d practically be self-defense. I’d be in the just.

James would understand it if I ever told him.

Jane would too.

Only an idiot like Bob would let the guy live if he came tumbling into our world without consent.

Before I knew it, I fell asleep…

Man, was the air getting lighter, though, or did it just get harder to breathe?

Disgusting, my saliva was leaking out of my mouth.

Why was it so hard to swallow? It’s like my throat can’t function properly right now.

My pillow didn’t feel right, either. My head was not comfy at all.

Wait a second, why was I so conscious asleep?

“Don’t worry, I won’t hurt you.”

Was somebody whispering in my ear?

My eyes could barely open, but I could see it clear as day– an arm around my neck.

Looking up, I could see the drawer knocked over, which would mean…

Oh, damn.

I was not as light a sleeper as I thought.

More importantly, my doppelganger was choking me out.

On the bright side, I could definitely kill him now… just after I wake up.

If I wake up.

Please don't kill me.
