Chapter 23: Nexus Flourishes

Three years had woven a tapestry of growth and change in Nexus. The seeds Tookami planted, both in terms of alliances and the introduction of new races, had flourished into a bustling city of diversity.

The Bazaar, once a blueprint on paper, now bustled with activity. Stalls and shops lined the vibrant streets, selling wares from countless realms—exotic spices, enchanted artifacts, and curious trinkets. The air was alive with the chatter of merchants and the scent of goods from far-off lands.

The Docking zones were a testament to the thriving trade and travel Nexus had fostered. Ships from different realms docked, exchanging goods and stories. The docks were abuzz with activity, reflecting the newfound connection Nexus had with the vast tapestry of the cosmos.

As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting hues of orange and purple over Nexus, Tookami stood on a balcony overlooking the city. The once vacant land had transformed into a harmonious blend of architectural styles, reflecting the diverse origins of its inhabitants.

Rowan, Percival, and Seraphina joined Tookami on the balcony. Rowan, with a sense of accomplishment, spoke, "Tookami, the Bazaar and Docking zones are thriving. The residential area is nearly complete, and it's filled with families from various realms. Nexus has become a beacon of unity."

Tookami nodded, a sense of pride swelling within him. "Our efforts have paid off. Nexus is not just a city; it's a testament to what can be achieved when beings from different realms come together. But our work isn't over. We must ensure that Nexus continues to grow and evolve."

As they descended from the balcony, the trio walked through the lively streets. Seraphina chimed in, "Tookami, the residents have shared stories of how Nexus changed their lives. From humble beginnings to a thriving community, it's heartening to see."

"Tookami, with the residential zone nearing completion, we should consider expanding our efforts to other realms," suggested Percival. "Nexus can serve as a bridge, connecting worlds and fostering cooperation."

Tookami agreed. "Indeed, my friends. Let Nexus be a beacon of hope and collaboration. Our next step is to extend our invitation to more realms. We'll continue to grow, learn, and build a city that stands as a symbol of unity in the vast cosmos."

As they strolled through the vibrant streets, the people of Nexus went about their lives, their diverse cultures weaving into the very fabric of the city. The completion of the residential zone marked not just the end of a construction project, but the beginning of a new chapter for Nexus—one filled with possibilities, growth, and the promise of a harmonious future.

A sudden disturbance in the sky cast an ominous shadow over Nexus. The lively atmosphere of the Bazaar transformed into chaos as civilians scattered, seeking shelter from the unexpected arrival. Tookami, Rowan, Percival, and Seraphina stood their ground, eyes fixed on the emerging portal.

A procession of warriors descended from the portal, landing in the heart of the Bazaar. Clad in armor that bore the unmistakable insignia of Evermore, these soldiers were not here on a diplomatic mission. Their arrival was swift and purposeful, creating a tense atmosphere in Nexus.

As the last of the soldiers and gryphons touched down, the imposing figure of King Stephon, ruler of Evermore, dismounted from his majestic gryphon. The air crackled with tension as King Stephon's gaze locked onto Tookami. His expression, stern and unwelcoming, betrayed an air of hostility.

Tookami, maintaining his composure, stepped forward to address the imposing king. "King Stephon, what brings you to Nexus with such a force?"

King Stephon, with a voice that echoed authority, responded, "Tookami, the once King of Evermore turned traitor. You vanished, leaving chaos in your wake. We've tracked your movements, and it seems you've built this... abomination of a city."

Tookami's brow furrowed in disbelief. "Abomination? Nexus stands as a testament to unity and cooperation. I left Evermore to create a haven for those seeking refuge from conflict."

King Stephon scoffed, "Refuge? This city is an insult to Evermore. You will answer for your crimes, Tookami. The council has declared you an enemy of Evermore, and you shall face justice."

Tension gripped Nexus as the standoff between Tookami and King Stephon unfolded. The residents, peeking cautiously from alleys and rooftops, sensed the gravity of the situation. The once joyous Bazaar now stood on the brink of conflict, caught in the crossfire of two realms with a history of animosity.

Tookami, despite the accusations, remained resolute. "King Stephon, I sought peace and unity. If Evermore sees Nexus as a threat, let us find a resolution that doesn't involve bloodshed. War benefits no one."

King Stephon's gaze remained unyielding, and the fate of Nexus hung in the balance, caught between the past and the uncertain future. “Rowan, quickly, use your teleportation, gather any and all troops from the Barracks” Tookami said quietly. In an instant, Rowan casted a portal and stepped through.

“When I became King shortly after your mess in Evermore, I was tasked with doing anything possible to find you and eliminate you. I see you found some of our nation’s stronger mages, being Rowan, Percival and Seraphina, but they didn’t happen to be the strongest. These traitors shall be executed, as for you Tookami, we will take a slow approach in your death, I don’t want to send you to Asmodeus too soon, I mean, your father misses you Tookami, but Hell would just be too kind of a place for the likes of you.” King Stephon spat.

Tookami was now surprised, how had he learned of his father Asmodeus, and how did anybody from Evermore learn how to realm hop to Nexus? These questions would need to be put on hold, as of right now, the primary objective would need to be to defend Nexus and its people.

“I gotta give it to you peasant Stephon,” Tookami said while slowly clapping and stepping toward their forces. “You know, I’ve never told anybody about my father Asmodeus, and I am surprised at you and your military for finding your way here. But unfortunately for you humans, you will have to face the wrath of my world, my people, comprising more races than your entire realm could transpire. Prepare yourself for the fight you wish you never had.”

As the final words left his mouth, the Nexus army of about 600 soldiers was marching toward the scene. Gripping his halberd and shield harder, King Stephon realized he may have made a grave mistake, as his army of just 400 humans may not actually be able to prevail. He would ask himself…

“Why did the council provide me with such small numbers?”
