Chapter 10 - A Divine Gift

The entire room erupted in protest.

"My Lord, what is the meaning of this?!" Elijah asked, shaking with the anger that was seething within him. Noah pulled out his spear and held it beside him. A violent red light of hatred dancing in his eyes. Xavier and Arthur said nothing but were looking at the King with an expression that clearly showed the various emotions that rippled across their minds. Tessa buried her face within her hands. Among all these chaos Levi sat still, with his hands crossed and a cold stare fixed upon his face. The King was sitting opposite to him and had a wicked smile spread across his face.

"My Lord, this is a completely unacceptable decision and as a member of the Council I must ask as to why I was not made part of the decision making process", raged Elijah, the King merely gestured to him to stay still. The Council was the elite group of family heads including the 7 clans that made decisions about all the important affairs within the nation. They served as the court of justice and also as the sole lawmakers, the Council was directly headed by the King himself.

"Elijah, I must ask you to calm down", the King spoke, in that dangerously soft tone that demanded absolute obedience. Elijah subdued and sat down, still seething at the King's words.

"This decision was made by the Council in your absence because we believed the involvement of the accused, who is your own flesh and blood, may meddle with your thoughts and cloud your judgement. this decision was made after the united acknowledgment of a majority of the Council Members that were present and as a member yourself and also as a law abiding citizen of this nation I must ask you to obey and heed to the orders of the Council", he spoke with a flourish and glanced at the faces before him, his gaze lingering a second longer on Levi.

It was all clear to Levi. This was just a clever plan hatched by the King and the other clans to get him out of the way, but he didn't understand what exactly they meant to achieve by that.

"However...", the King began again, drawing the attention of everyone back to him once more, "Such a punishment is not befitting for one who is a descendant of the 7 clans and that too for a simple mistake of over exertion, therefore I decided to lower your punishment", he smiled, Elijah gazed hopefully at the King. Levi looked as well, this sounded too good to be true.

"You are simply being sentenced to the Tartarus for an indefinite period of time", he said.

"So you're telling me the King ordered you to a maximum security prison where hundreds of murderers and other scum walk around, with no restriction upon crime and that too for an "indefinite period of time " ?", Frey asked, putting air quotes around the last phrase.

Levi nodded, "Sounds about right".

"What bullshit", Frey scowled. It was the first time he had appeared instead of Freya and Levi was quite surprised when he heard a man's voice while he was changing. He was even more embarrassed than before, these Gods had pretty awful timings. Frey said that Freya was away on some important affairs and that he had come instead of her. They were back in Levi's bedroom, the King had said that he needed to leave immediately and that he better pack the necessary things.

Stolen novel; please report.

"Well that's up to the oldies to decide, I don't care either way", Levi said and shrugged, he tried to appear as don't-carish and laid back to Frey, he didn't particularly want to air his insecurities before a literal god and that too one as handsome as he was. Being quite handsome himself made Levi feel insecure around other handsome guys, especially ones who were even more than he was.

"You do know that I am a God right?" Frey asked. Levi looked at him surprised and stopped shoving his clothes into his travelling bag.

"What do you mean?" Levi asked, dreading the answer that laid before him.

"I mean... you do know that I can hear and understand the thoughts that pass through your mind in my presence?" He again asked, Levi sank through the ground.

"Oh... Oh Really!? I... didn't know that... Hahaha, oh how awkward..." Levi started mumbling.

"Yeah....", Frey trailed off.

"So...so does that mean even Freya can do that?" He asked tentatively.

"Yeah, didn't she mention that?" Frey looked genuinely confused, Levi shook his head in exasperation, Freya didn't mention half the things that were necessary.

"But leave all that, since you are leaving on such a dangerous journey I would like you to have this", Frey said, he held his hands before him, the ring on his index finger started to change shape, a small burst of light and he held within his hands a truly magnificent weapon.

Levi stared at it, it was not long enough to be called a sword but was not short enough to be a knife, it was like a blade, slightly bigger than your forearm, approximately 50 cm long, it was a sleek instrument, Levi could clearly see it even though it was sheathed. The sheath was made of solid black material which looked like leather but was far sturdier and stronger.

"This is the Dainsleif", Frey said and held it towards Levi.

"The dine - shelf?" Levi looked confused, he took the blade into his hands. It was the perfect size and weight for him and felt like a proper weapon.

"Not the dine - shelf, the DAINSLEIF..." Frey said, "NO, DON'T DO THAT!!" He almost yelled, Levi almost dropped the weapon in surprise, he was about to unsheathe the weapon.

"DO - NOT - UNSHEATHE - IT!" Frey carefully spoke every word, "Dainsleif is one of the most dangerous weapons in the Nine Worlds, if it is ever unsheathed then it will have to draw the blood of a person before it can be sheathed and it has to do that within an hour of unsheathing", Frey said.

Levi looked at the weapon in his hands, the blade looked positively evil now. Every time it was drawn a person died, Levi could not even imagine the bloodshed it had witnessed.

"But although it has such a drawback, this blade can be your strongest ally, a wound which has been inflicted by the Dainsleif can never be healed, so remember never to wound yourself. Me and my sister have placed our trust in you, do not disappoint me and farewell Levi", Frey said and disappeared.

Levi looked on for a couple of seconds at the blade, he was tempted to draw it right now, the blade was emanating an almost magnetic pull on him, he swallowed and resisted the urge to do so. Even though it was a strong weapon, it was certainly an evil one. He must only use it whenever necessary.

Levi packed everything he needed and slung it over his shoulder and walked out to meet the King.

"I hope you are ready?" The King smiled, Elijah stood beside him and looked like he might burst with anger at any moment, Noah nodded at him, Xavier and Arthur looked on from a bit off, Xavier waved at him, Arthur gave him a warm look and patted Tessa's head who was crying onto his shoulder. She looked at him and gave him a tearful glance before breaking down once again.

Levi looked back to the King and nodded, "I am ready".

The King smiled, "Then we shall set off", he said, "To your death", he whispered under his breath to himself.
