The Royal Banquet

The King arranged a Royal Banquet to honour the heroes who saved his daughter. Everyone was happy about it except for Kauri, who felt like it was more of a prison. Despite his feelings, he had to attend as he was part of the hero's party. He stood alone in a quiet corner during the event.

"This is bad," he thought. "I should have pretended to be sick to get out of here."

And then he looks towards Idris, the hero. He is surrounded by girls from all sides, they were trying to get a moment to talk with him, trying to listen to him as he talks about his escapades. Idris is a prideful man who always likes to be surrounded by girls; their praises are the things that make him run. There are as many bad qualities in him as there are good, but still, Kauri looks up to him.

For Kauri, Idris was like a magnet, effortlessly drawing people towards him with his infectious charisma. His warm personality had the power to brighten anyone's day, endearing him to all who knew him. While Kauri didn't know a single thing about having a meaningful relationship with anybody, maybe some friends though it was also only due to his work.

"Maybe that was why he was chosen as the hero!!", he murmured to himself.

While he was lost in his thoughts, he was suddenly jumped from back by the princess.

"You enjoying the party", she asked with a smile as always.

"Yes of course"

"Well it doesn't look like you are, come on cheer up", she told him," this party is for you and your friends, for saving me. You have not forgotten".

"Yes, I know. I appreciate it. I am very much enjoying it". While he tried his hardest to give a smile.

That made her start laughing again she was enjoying putting him in these situations, "You don't have to force yourself to do so, you know. Personally, I don't enjoy these fancy parties. But I must do so, to show royalty of us royals. But unlike you, that friend of yours the hero and those two ladies are quite well-versed in this kind of situation".

"Yes", said he as he thought of how much better the other three members of his parties were, they were good at being the centre of the show while Kauri had the innate ability to blend with the background like he never even existed." they all are nobles so they were taught all this from a very young age I guess, they know how to act around other nobles."

"So you are not a noble, I guess"

Kauri shook his head.

"That makes me, even more, idolize you, you are quite capable huh", Princess said.

This novel's true home is a different platform. Support the author by finding it there.

By now their conversation had been noticed by the Hero Idris. He came there to join them and with him came the bandwagon of girls hovering around him like planets around the sun.

"Princess Anushna, I wish that you were alright by now", he asked the princess in this gentleman's voice.

"Yes, of course, you and your team were kind enough to come there quickly to save me"

"It was our pleasure, to help someone like you".

With a gentle laugh, the princess said," But still I don't understand why the dragon tried to kidnap me. I mean what would be the use of it. If he wanted, he could have killed me right there in the royal garden".

Everyone there was astonished by such a comment; nobody uttered a word. They either didn't know or were taken aback by the boldness of the princess.

"Maybe he read too much of those princess in the tower fables", Idris said to try breaking the silence. Everyone laughed.

"To marry you", said Kauri from aside. Which stopped all the chuckles. Everybody looked at the Kauri with a weirded-out look.

"What…what do you mean marry", a girl said.

"Yes, I mean I am a human being, you know while it is a dragon", added the princess.

"The dragons are higher magical monsters, they can turn into a human form. It be very easy for one, it won't even be the first time for Gandhar itself".

"How do you even know that if it is true", asked one of the girls terrified by what she heard.

"He may not look like much but he is one of my party members and is quite smart with the details. So I would say he knows what he is saying", approved Idris like always taking his share of the credit.

"Hey Shhh… then what happens then, he would have married me, if was able to take me to his den", shushed the princess as she wanted to know more.

"Sorry, but I can't. This is too gore and gruesome to talk about at a party like this. Everybody would be left vomiting on the ground by it" answered Kauri.

That left everybody baffled, but somehow even that knowledge made Anushna chuckle.

"Then I guess I am even more in your debt for saving me," she said.

Seeing her laugh, everyone else also joined in with some chuckles. After a while, Idris went to meet the king and discuss something important, taking away the crowd hovering around him.

Then, Anushna got near Kauri's ear and in a soft voice said," See it's not so hard to get into a conversation but maybe next time be more gentle with your words. That way people will love to be around you."

Kauri nodded, thinking to himself that the princess was trying to help him talk. He wondered why someone would take on such a great task. He had started to believe that it was a defect he was born with. He didn't understand how to carry on a conversation and whenever he tried, like right now, he always ended up doing something stupid and weird. As, a warrior from a young age blood, gore and other dark stuff were quite normal for him but for the general public, the mildest of those things send shivers down their spines.

And that's why he liked Idris, he was a great friend and a good leader, he was the one who told him that he was great enough, he just had to help people. Idris would be the one who would take care of everything else for him. He was the only one who didn't run away from him.

And now here she was, Princess Anushna, she was quite an anomaly for her title. And someone who was not leaving his side and cause of that, his evening had not gone as bad as he thought it would.

"Hello there!" said Anushna, trying to pull him out of his thoughts.

"Yeah!!", he answered startled.

"Alright, come out of your mind. I need your help with something. You wouldn't leave a helpless princess without helping her, would you?" she said, chuckling and making a baby face.

"What do you need?" asked Kauri.

"Just do as I say, and it will be fun!!"
