CH 6 Misunderstandings

My hairs stood on end as I gaze at the silhouette in the reflection. The thought that for once my dream had been a vision popped in my head. I wasn’t about the relive those events. I pivot around to face the figure and I make a mad dash towards it.

“RAAAAAAAAGH!!!”

“Eep!”

I slam into the dark figure toppling it over. It collapses to the ground and I land over top of it. I reach over to the nightstand next to my bed and grab the lamp on top of it. I cock my hand back as I go in for a full-on baseball swing.

“AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH!!!”

I am fully extend my arms back and are about to release a grand slam on this thing before the light catches it and I get a look at its face. Not just it though, HER face. It was the unkempt girl with the long hair that is incapable of maintaining eye contact. We lock eyes for a moment before she sits up right and then topples me over both hands beside my head and she is screaming into my face.

“What the actual hell is wrong with you!”

I push her off of me causing her to fall back down and I have both hands beside her head screaming at her.

“What do you mean this is my room what are you doing here I thought you were a shadow demon trying to kill me!”

She pushes me over and I fall onto my back and at this point, we keep trading places with her atop of me and vice versa.

“What are you talking about you were the one who invited me in here!”

I push her over and we trade places again.

“No I didn’t you psycho I never opened the door for you!”

She pushes me over and we trade places yet again.

“Yes you did you dingus, you did the thing I said to do on the note, and can you stop pushing me over why do you keep doing that!”

I push her over once again.

“I don’t know! You keep doing it I was just going with the flow of things!”

She looks at me with an infuriated face as her hair begins to move sporadically like an open flame revealing more of her face. I move from atop of her and seat myself in front of her on the floor.

“Look I didn’t realize that your note was gonna summon you into my room, its late at night and the timing couldn’t have been worse.”

She inhales sharply.

“Yeah, I know dingus, you were supposed to do it as soon as you entered your room. I never expected you to be up at this unlordly hour!”

She gestures with hands sporadically and I respond.

“Look, regardless, we’re not supposed to be talking with each other and even still… I’m in no mood to be dealing with other people.”

Her face and body relaxes as she lets out a huge sigh.

“Yeah I know that, but I just wanted to try cheering you up. You seemed really bummed out yesterday after crying yourself to sleep.”

My eyes widen and I can feel the blood rushing to my face and I answer shakingly.

“You heard all of that…”

She cocks her head to the side and raises one eyebrow as if the look alone had just told me, “you serious?” She begins to mimic a crying sobbing voice.

“I’m so sorry, I’m so sorry, I didn’t mean to sleep.”

She knocks on the wall

“You think these walls are soundproof, I heard everything and I think any sane person would wanna check up on someone after an episode like that.”

This insensitive little… I stand up and place the lamp that was laying on the floor onto the nightstand.

“Well, I’m fine, thanks for checking up on me you can go now.”

She places her elbow onto the side of the bed and rests her head into her hand.

“You sure? You still look like you could let a few tears loose out of those eyeballs of yours.”

Anger flushes through my body once more as I snap to face her and say.

“What the hell does it matter to you huh? Up until this point we’ve been total strangers, you shouldn’t do thankless favors for those you don’t know too well…”

The words pang my heart as they leave my lips.

She looks up at me with a straight face.

“Kindness.”

I turn and face her with a completely confused look on my face.

“What?”

She perks her head up from her hands and looks at with a smile.

“I know what being alone feels like. I know what it feels like to think that everything that you hold dear is lost and there’s nothing you can do about it. I know what it feels like to be hurt and not have anyone to rely on. I too was left alone in this world with no one other than myself to figure things out. I know these feelings and I never want anyone to experience them.”

I look away and ball my hand up into a fist as an attempt to try to fight back the tears from forming on my face in front of her.

“I don’t need your kindness! I don’t need you to feel pity for me! I am strong. I’ve gotten this far by myself and I will keep on doing so!”

“Even so, I want to show you kindness.”

I shift my gaze towards her as the response leaves my mouth. Her eyes could pierce my soul as she looks at me with such decisiveness. I didn’t know how to respond as my brain struggled and tripped over itself to say anything. She turns away and faces the door and the lights begin to flicker.

“…”

“If you change your mind… you know how to reach me.”

The lights flicker one last time and she vanishes from my room. The grip on my fist and the clenching of teeth grow tighter as my breathing grew sporadic. Tears began to form on my face but I refused to let them drop, I didn’t want her to hear me hurt again. I was embarrassed, I had taken my anger out on the only person to show they cared about me, and I was able to finally think of a response.

“I’m sorry…”
