Chapter 8, Childhood 5, Insecurities of a little sister

Later that day, when we got ready to sleep I went to her room and sat on her bed. She looked at me questioningly, but I only patted the bed next to me and motioned for her to come over. She did so and I started to pet her hair, something that she likes.

“What's wrong?” I asked once she has leaned into me.

“Nothing,” she replied not really sounding convincing to me.

“You are my sister Tsu-chan, I know when something bothers you. You turned all gloomy and depressed when I asked if I can have a look at the scrolls Tobirama-jii gave you.”

She shrugged and said nothing, I waited patiently and continued to move my hand through her hair, it was really soft. “It's just. You are always so good at anything.”

Ah, so it is what I thought it would be. “So, you think I will be good at medical Jutsu too and become better at it than you, pushing you into the shadow.”

She hugged me and nodded once. “It's just. The others are always praising you, they....” She didn't continue. She stayed silent and let me pet her.

I hugged her back. “It feels as if they forget about you?” she nodded again, not looking at me, “I'm sorry if I have made you feel sad.”

This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road; report any instances of this story if found elsewhere.

She quickly moved her head in denial. “It's not your fault, the adults are. They only see you and ignore me. Mom and dad less so than the rest, but they too have this strange expression when I do something correctly. I know they are comparing me to you and think that I could have done it better, faster, more precise or earlier if I was more like you.”

She was close to tears now. I rubbed her back soothingly and hugged her a little tighter. “You want something to be better at than me, showing them that you can do something I can't. I can understand that, if you don't want to I won't learn medical Jutsu.”

She again shook her head in denial. “But they are useful, they can save your life or that of your teammates. If you don't learn them then you would hinder yourself. Possibly risk death if you are wounded and without a medic.”

“Hmm, then let's practice them in secret. I promise you that I won't flaunt my skills, that is if I am skilful in them. There are things I can't do after all.” She looked at me as if I am stupid, her eyes slightly red from tears. The imagination of me not able to do something was foreign to her. I was proud that she thought that, but I am still only a kid. Sure, better than my peers, but weak in the greater picture.

“That way we can both learn and help each other, I have a hidden ace and if it comes out that I can do medical Jutsu I simply say that I have learned them from you. It wouldn't be strange to know some medical Jutsu if they are taught by the best medic in the world, after all.” I said with a grin and a poke at her nose.

She pouted cutely, me poking her nose was my way to tease her. “Muh, don't poke me on my nose, you always do that... But yes, that would be great Nii-san.” She was pretending to not like it, but I knew she does. She is the only one I am this close to. Come to think of it, she is my only friend. She has some from the academy, but I ignored them. I always preferred to train, instead of playing with the other kids.

We stayed like that for some time. She was hugging me, enjoying to get her hair stroked. While I enjoyed our closeness. In my previous life, I had a sibling too, an older brother. He was nine years older, so moments like this were none existent. I was too young for him to interact with at first and then we both were too old for moments like this. And hugs like this aren't done between brothers.

“Ken-kun, can we stay like this for the night?” she asked suddenly. I said nothing in return. Instead, I laid back on her bed and pulled the cover over both of us. She snuggled closer and soon I felt her breathing even out.

Having Tsunade as my slightly younger sister was nice, were my last thoughts before falling asleep as well.
