An Announcement - Volume I, 'Awakening' Enhanced Edition is now LIVE!

Well folks, it's finally happened. I have finally completed the not-so-secret update to Volume I, 'Awakening' of "The Legend of the Luminaires". Please, if you're reading this for the first time, It's best to start from the very beginning.

If you've seen any chapters that are strangely numbered, it's because I had to insert some chapters to keep the rhythm going as I reorganized some stuff, and some reshuffling to the correct chapter order have been added. Links and reminders are added to return to the beginning , both for newcomers, and veterans alike.

Some chapters were too...lengthy, let's just say. Every chapter has been dusted off and given a quality of life upgrade from lessons learned and from a few brave souls who gave me much needed feedback, along with changes to pacing, content, grammatical fixes (tense mixing, the bane of my existence!) and other little goodies. Don't get me started on the Oxford ™ comma.

Now, as is traditional for a release of this magnitude, I present the patch logs for return visitors, to let you know your author has not lost his mind, and actually kept, you know, notes of his exploits.

Because, I dunno, some of you might have loved the slice-of-life-lite that I had for the first several chapters. I still have that wholesome dialogue between the characters in spirit, even if some of the dialogue has changed, and POV's have been changed as well!

Or added! *Gleeful cackles*

Alright, here's the log. This chapter won't hang around forever, but I keep it as a courtesy to veterans who have been here since the beginning, and my many thanks to all of them!

If y'all don't want spoilers though, just head to the beginning. I believe this will be a real treat, and a preview of the labor and love I'm putting into Volume II.

Chapter 1

* Minor grammatical fixes. Many of them.

* Drenar is now 50% more adorkable!

* Julia dialed back a bit--don't worry, we see her in the next chapter!

* Baldurs' gate difficulty... unchanged and still masochistic. Even the author here hasn't revisited it in quite a while...

* Some reorganization of the dialogue between Alex and Drenar in the stranded lands, for better flow/pacing.

* More natural dialogue/minor actions between Evan and Drenar near the tail end of the chapter.

* Feather clue status increased 50%.

Chapter 2

* POV CHANGE, HA-HAA! Julia patched with 100% more sunshine! (And black painted fingernails. She is who she is)

* Some dialogue truncated for flow and not getting hung up, especially history class. It was getting too much. Julia added to world seed, too!

* Visiting dragon gets a line of protest! Not fluffy enough, Drenar!

* Nick buffed with a cool bomber jacket. Drenar wants one too, even if he won't say it.

* Some other dialogue clean-up between James and Drenar and now Julia. These guys hate shelling bootles of money for cards these days...and Drenar has no idea he's gonna get his wish.

* Many. Grammatical. Fixes. I'll just stop mentioning this one, or this patch log might be longer than Volume I.

* ZAP!

Chapter 3

* BIG changes

* Dialogue truncated between Evan and Drenar. He helps make dinner this time!

* No urgent flight for Evan. He's more chill now.

* Some cleanup of Dialogue between Diane and Drenar, and later, with Alex during Dreamland.

*Alex mentioned death has a permanence even for mages. Kind of a somber note.

* A little dragon science! Drenar is quite analytical when he's not in a crisis.

* SCALES! Welp, we just kicked this one back up to eleven, and the scale (groans from the audience, followed by liberal beatings of the author for bad puns) goes to ten. Drenar's gonna have a bad day...

Chapter 4

If you come across this story on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from Royal Road. Please report it.

* BIG changes

* Drenar tries to make some inference of his situation, and makes some not terrifying, but still troubling conclusions while stewing in classes.

* Dialogue cleanup between Nick, James, Drenar, and Angela. Scale removed from discussion, too imbalanced for Drenar's composure.

* James still hates the outdoors...

* Body still going through changes, but at least Drenar knows what it is, and not anxiety.

* Nick still knows something is up. He's good at sniffing out weirdness.

Chapter 4.1 (new chapter!)

* More dragon science! No actual dragons were harmed in the making of this story. Drenar usually knows when he's doing something stupid...

* Evan still thinks his brother is a weirdo...

* Still no foxgirls yet...much to everyone's disappointment.

* Drenar's mind is blown when he makes the connection. He recovers!

* Julia's tastes are...unique, I think is the word.

* Uh oh. That person in the crowd, red herring, or plot relevant?!

Chapter 5

* Drenar still makes dinner but he's still thinking about pending crisis @ Julia's house.

* Some dialogue cleanup for flow and grammatical fixes.

* Drenar can sass back too, heee.

* No more MarioKart. womp-womp.

* Julia knows something is up with Drenar (mentioned in last chapter) and when she sees it, amazingly, it's more a sense of wonder. She also confesses to fragging the microwave a lot sooner

Chapter 5.1 (New!)

* Wheee! It's Julia's next POV chapter set!

* Coffee time as Julia and Drenar discuss their findings.

* More dragon science! (But seriously it's magic, and magic only plays nice some of the time with the rest of physics.)

* Julia has an electric personality and and plasmakinesis to go along with it (much sooner this time!)

* Drenar's dream: dragon rides for under- privileged kids, free of charge. Who doesn't want to ride a dragon at least once?

* Theories on the Aether/Stranded Lands. It's a little wild, and they're not sure how it connects.

* Evan's untimely call is even less untimely than before...

Chapter 6

* New title! (Title was too much)

* POV switched to Julia compared to the last version.

* Many awkward and telling thoughts about how she feels about Drenar. She views hormones as her enemy. To be destroyed.

* Dialogue cleaned up, simplified as they drive back to Julia's place with Evan. He's still mum on circumstances.

* Drenar's tension and irritation buffed 10%. He mad at Evan.

* Julia puts things together, and then does something that should qualify her to never be a doctor. She might be a little too gleeful afterwards. This was definitely not in the original version.

Chapter 6.1 (New chapter!)

* Julia does science. Again.

* Brothers have a heart-to-heart. Because they are indeed brothers.

* More discussion of dragon species. Some of it is from earlier and some is brand new.

* Jonaleth making threats that are going to land him in a grave. You do not mess with the Tsundere or her friends. (Don't worry, our MC's are reluctant to start a body count). Also, Julia zappy when she gets mad.

* Mom's home early. Ruh-oh.

Chapter 6.2 (New chapter!)

* Mom's home. Hide the stuff! Some amusing dialogue between her and Evan while Drenar stalls. Seriously Evan, you might be plasma resistant, but she can still zap you.

* Some minor elements adopted from Drenar's version, about his mom's passing and the anniversary coming up. It still hits him in the feels, even if he won't say it to Julia.

* Behold, our glorious Overwatch Raven! She's awesome. And does approve of Drenar as boyfriend material. Poor lad gets so anxious sometimes...

* Also Julia too. Insert claw in snout...she really is a teenager!

* Julia does science!

Chapter 7

* New stuff! Evan and Drenar call Julia. There's science. Dragon science! She really needs to sleep though.

* An uncomfortable thought.

* Some of the dragon species details are the same as before, with some minor updates.

* Drenar having some...feelings. He's a teen. We get it. It just doesn't happen for him that often.

Chapter 7.1

* School scene mostly plays out the same. Some dialogue cleanup.

* More *interesting* dialogue added between Levine and Nick. Drenar gets a slight hearing buff--another hint of his draconic heritage.

* Drenar still takes a nap. That hasn't changed.

Chapter 7.2 (New Chapter!)

* Mostly plays out the same as the split from the original. Some cleanup of dialogue for better flow, and Drenar no longer acting like he didn't see this transformation coming.

*Honestly most of the events are less back-end loaded, more evenly distributed.

* MMA fighter dragon, with elemental plasma. And guns. Bad guys should just preemptively run away from Julia.

Chapter 8/8.1

* Some info from Evan, who hears secondhand from an actual mage friend of theirs. Everyone's wary about talking about magic in the open for obvious reasons.

* Minor dialogue fixes throughout. Some enhancement to the Ascension events details.

Chapter 9/9.1

* Mostly plays out the same, some minor dialogue updates. Julia still gets a little pissed off at Drenar.

Chapter 10

* Much more detailed discussion of the Conclave and what they do, now that Evan is part of the dialogue, along with talking about Awakening.

* Some theory crafting about the Aether. They're not sure how this ties into the Awakenings, if at all.

* James so hilariously vanilla, he makes vanilla seem fancy. But he's right. Humans don't belong in eggs. Weirdness.

* Drenar has a slightly odd taste in music compared to most. 10% buff.

* they're all kinda mystified on what the dragons accomplished. And not all of it was fortuitous. Some did some very bad things.

* Other minor cleanup

Chapter 10.1/10.2

* Added dragon tech demo. It was wild.

* Not so wild: the breath abilities, as explained. The dragons-to-be get grossed out a little.

*Minor dialogue additions and clean-up. There would be too many to list if I tallied every one of them.

Chapter 11-17

* Mostly bug fixes and minor updates on descriptors, verb tense. Nothing majorly different from the original.

* some other minor updates--villains get some new lines, but the changes aren't as drastic as the back half, that's for sure!

Annnnnnnnd there you have it! The patch log!

Stay tuned folks, there will be a coming announcement about Volume II soon! There's gonna be a big launch day, so you will all know!
