We are the descendants of gods.
Long ago, our ancestors created this world with their great magic. They raised shapes of earth and called it Land; They filled the voids between with water and called them Oceans; They spread seed of both plant and beast and called it Life; and all of these things together, they called, Soror. When their work was finished, they created their thrones in Heaven to rule over it all. However, it was not to last for there came a day when ruin would befall them and their glory would be brought to an end by a great demon. Her name was Sephra.
Sephra, who stole the power to create life, raised an army of abominations; the Chimera, and brought them into battle against the ancestor gods. This became known as the War in Heaven. It was during this great calamity that we lost our godhood. It was then that Sephra tore Heaven from the sky and stripped our ancestors of their magic and their immortality. And from that time, godkind became mankind.
Many perished in Heaven’s fall and those few that survived found themselves in the hands of the Chimera, at the mercy of Sephra. They would later count those who perished to be the fortunate ones, for Sephra’s mercy was a life as cattle.
For generations, the fallen gods would be bred by the Chimera at Sephra’s command. For generations, our ancestors were raised as livestock for two purposes; their flesh was what the Chimera fed on, and it was also their flesh from which the Chimera were made.
All things have a beginning, and all things have an end. Just as the reign of the gods began and ended, so too would the reign of Sephra as from the sacred star of Icos came an angel; the great savior of mankind, Celeste.
Celeste, Chief servant of the gods who was in slumber was awakened by the plight of their ill-fated offspring. She saw the bondage of her masters’ forced progeny and came to their aid, unleashing her righteous fury upon their captors. She led them then, from the pits in which they were raised, to a place where they could begin again, and she called it Bastion.

Beautiful and mighty was she, and still possessing the sacred powers once held by her masters, she raised their descendants into a great army and led them against Sephra’s legions of Chimera. Battle after battle, they prevailed over the Chimera before at long last marching against Sephra’s remaining forces at the Heart of the World where the final battle would be fought and where the angel Celeste, would face the great demon, Sephra.
As the sun drew near the horizon, the day would see the Chimera crushed and it would see Sephra beaten to the ground before Celeste’s feet. But as Celeste raised her blade to cast the final blow, Sephra struck out at Celeste and then fled deeper into the Heart of the World where she sealed herself away from Celeste and her army. Sephra had retreated, but it would not be a day to celebrate, for though Sephra had been defeated, she had not been destroyed, and what’s more is that her strike against Celeste found its mark, leaving Sephra’s own wicked blade sheathed in Celeste’s chest. Celeste was dying.
The people despaired, for they knew, without Celeste, there was no hope. Sephra would one day return and with her would come her Chimera. But in her final moments, Celeste told them not to despair. They were assured that her soul would not rest until they were safe, that she would return when her body was ready. So they brought her to Bastion and laid her to rest. On her promise, they waited eagerly for the resurrection of their savior.
Over a thousand years have passed since that day. The tomb of Celeste has remained sealed to this day. Some say that she has forgotten them, others say she has abandoned them. More say that perhaps she never even existed, that perhaps her story was an exaggeration told by soldiers in an effort to raise the morale of their comrades. Whatever the case, whether or not the stories of gods or angels or great demons are true, the Chimera certainly do exist.
They prowl in the wilderness and on the outskirts of civilization. Abominable vissages of man mixed with beast, they are hunting, killing, harvesting. With every poor soul who finds themselves the victim of Sephra’s servants, another of their number rises.
There are those who fight. There are those who even hunt those foul beasts, but if the tales of the times before her defeat are true, who could take on Sephra, herself?
If Celeste did exist, if her soul does remain to be reborn, if such a soul really does possess the power of the gods, if ever there was a time that such a hero was needed…it's now.
