As we went further into the forest, the man asked, "Don't you find it exciting? The chirping of birds, the sound of water falling from the springs, this vast forest, the scent of nature"
"Yes, we are enjoying this journey, don't we, you little one?" said the woman, while tickling the little baby in her arms. As a reply, he giggled softly with a bright and pleasant smile.
After walking for a while, the man catches a glimpse of something fascinating through the bushes.
"Where are you going, George? We need to stay together in this dense forest," She asked him.
"I just caught a glimpse of something white in the bushes, just going to investigate it. It isn't too far Maria. Why do you get scared, we aren't gonna die here in this jungle
After finding a way through the bushes, "Just look at it once before proceeding," said the man, awestruck and pointing to the right.
Seeing that scene, we got goosebumps, and our jaws dropped in astonishment. Surrounded on three sides by immeasurably deep and giant waterfalls from which water flowed from a height that makes even the biggest creatures feel seemingly nothing and powerless in front of these gods, resting on the edge of a cliff adjacent to the ground, covered with layers of moss, with walls having large cracks on them, rests a huge white temple with a large skull-shaped figure built on the dome. "It was our luck that I got a glimpse of this wonderful view. We should consider visiting that old temple at least once. Because the next time we come here, it might not be here,"
"No! It seems as if it will be in ruins at any moment," said mom while tightly hugging the child. It was as if I was not their son and my presence had no effect on the scenario. Yet, I wondered if they had thought that I had grown up, so there is no need to keep an eye on every action of mine. Also, they had the responsibility of caring for another younger child.
"Oh Maria, why are you so scared? How many temples have we visited with conditions worse than this temple." George said.
"No means no, we have this child with us. I am not risking anyone's life for the sake of an adventure," said mom, "we are not entering the temple."
"Maria, this is the only chance we have got to get adventurous. After this, we are getting busy with our lives.......Secondly, nature is so brutal that it won't even allow us to see this again..... *sighs*......We will lose a temple that is most revered to us." Said George with an expressionless voice, but his face showed his despair.
I wasn't able to understand anything - "We'll all walk inside the temple, but not too far inside. We'll stay a safe distance from the edge of the cliff,” I said in annoyance, but it seemed, they did not even hear me and moved without bothering me.
After a while, we started walking towards the temple. I walked behind them in their shadows. As we got closer to the temple, strange things began to appear. Mom held the child tightly.
Despite the presence of three waterfalls very close to the temple, with each step of ours, the sounds around us became lesser and lesser, and there was complete silence as we reached the entrance. Being near the water, where we should have felt the wind, there was not even a gust of wind.
At the temple entrance, something was mentioned in a bizarre and unknown language on a boulder beside the entrance, a language beyond human comprehension. Nevertheless, we tried to interpret that script for a long time, but we were unsuccessful.
“This temple is very grand and huge. What he said was true, it truly looks like it is 5000 years or older”, said George, looking at the old statues of men and women with human-like skull heads on a slab above the entrance.
"The head of these idols looks similar to the skull head on the dome of the temple," Said George
"No, these idols' head has the depiction of water on one eye and fire on the other one. It is different" Mom answered
"If you had looked at it carefully, you'll notice the depiction in the dome as well"
"Things are weird here, aren't they?" asked George.
As we crossed the entrance and reached inside the temple, we were amazed to see the beauty inside the temple. Unlike what the temple looked like from the outside, the temple was brand new inside. It seemed like someone was looking after this temple in this secluded place.
"Look at the top," said he, pointing to a giant owl sitting on the temple's inner roof, watching us intently, "And look at the walls, everywhere, there are depictions of skulls with water and fire in eyes everywhere"
There were the same skull heads everywhere in the temple - On the walls, on pillars, on windows, wherever you look.
As we stepped further into the temple, we came across numerous giant idols on either side. The idols, holding a weapon in their left hand, had their heads bowed down, and their right hand was on the left side of the chest. It was as if they were bowing in respect. There were cracks on some parts of every statue. Some had large, while some had small cracks.
Suddenly, a red cloth piece waving behind a wall caught my attention. I saw on both sides to confirm that the man and woman weren't watching me and went behind the wall. I heard my heart thumping as I saw a lady wearing a long royal-looking robe with red colour on one half and white on the second half. She also wore a hood so that I couldn't see her face.
"Thank you, Father, I think I have reached my destiny" Her face was towards me as she said in an echoing, ghost-like, hurrying whispering voice, "This may hurt a bit, but bearing such great responsibility will face life-death situations. You need to visit this temple every day until seven days. Otherwise, the consequences will not be in your favour. All hail - the Separator !!!". Though she didn't show her face, her voice expressed her emotions well as if she was worried about something.
I asked, "What are you trying to---." But, before I could say or ask anything, she threw a handful of green-coloured dust into my eyes with one of her bared hands, even without skin. And, before I could open my eyes, she was lost somewhere.
As I went back to my parents, I saw something very mysterious. When I first saw the figurines, they were twenty-one but now had become twenty-two. As soon as I noticed it, I heard a crackling sound. The temple walls suddenly started to collapse, and everything, including us, was being crushed under the immense pressure of the heavy debris.
Sweat covered my whole body, panting, and my heart was racing. I pinched myself hard, "Oh God! Thanks, It was just a dream," and I slept again.
The next day, when I woke up, my father called me down to the lobby and introduced me to two men whom my father was saying to be our distant relatives related to my great grandfather's father.
"Sam, meet uncle Boris and uncle Prince. Boris is a priest, and Prince is an astrophysicist in a space association, uh, XASE if I am not wrong."
After seeing uncle Boris, I thought I had already seen someone like him. After pondering, I scrutinized his attire. Surprisingly, they were the same clothes the lady wore in the dream - the same long robe with the colours red and blue. Same robe with red and white coloured halves with a hood, but without hiding his face.
"Why is the colour of your robe half red and half white? Uncle Prince?"I absent-mindedly questioned uncle Prince
"The vibrant red shows his everlasting ferocity and rage, and white shows his forgiving nature."
As the conversation proceeds, uncle Boris starts to talk about a temple. "Do you know about any temple in the nearby jungle ?"
"No, we haven't gone to any forest, at least since I was a child with self-conscious," said dad with great interest.
"Oh! So let me tell you about that temple, The Separator's Temple," Boris said, " The time was 500 years ago. It was the same jungle where the debris of the temple was located. One man, his wife, and his child went trekking in the jungle---"
"And they all died under the debris." as the story continued, I recognized that this was the same series of events that came in my dream yesterday. I stood numb.
After some time, uncle Prince said, "Now we need to leave. Uh! Before going, Sam, here is a gift for you. You may need it later," and he handed me a white-coloured old-looking cardboard box.
While leaving, uncle Boris looked at me and said, "May all your dreams come true. Open the box in your room after we leave."
I immediately went to my room and opened the box. There was an old book in the box saying-'Secrets Of Space'. In between the pages, there was a small, folded page.
I unfolded the page and started reading the text written on the page. It said -
"Dear reader,
Despite the warning given by the Separator's realm, you didn't visit the temple for seven days. Unfortunately, You have lost the chance to save 'it.' "
I didn't understand anything written on it, nor did I pay much attention to it.
I shook the box once more and heard some sound of something grainy. I opened the box with sheer awareness.
The same sand that the lady threw into my eyes in the dream.
