A full moon shone high over Lover's Beach cove as Devon paced along the tranquil sands. He had asked Tanya to meet him out here tonight, eager to finally share his epic hero costume obtained through cunning and miracles.
When Devon glimpsed her approaching along the cliffside path, he took a steadying breath. It was time to step forth as The Blur fully unleashed.
"Yow Devon, ya finally reveal this big secret?" Tanya greeted playfully once in earshot. "The suspense killing me all day."
Devon smiled. "Yeah, apologies for keeping you waiting. But now the moment here." With a flourish, he unzipped his hoodie and tossed it aside, revealing the sleek black and green super suit concealed beneath.
Tanya's jaw dropped, taking in the striking outfit that clung to Devon's athletic build. "Holy...! This is your new look?" she gasped in disbelief.
Grinning, Devon spun in a quick circle, letting Tanya admire how the metallic accents caught the moonlight. "You like it? I got my hands on one of them hero costumes and just had to test it out," he revealed casually.
"Like it? Blur yuh look straight legendary!" Tanya exclaimed, checking out the angular lightning-shaped patterns adorning his legs and arms. "How you even get this so quick though? Yuh have secret powers I ain't know about?" she teased.
Devon laughed. "Nah, nah, I just pulled some clever strings and called in favours to surprise yuh." He glanced down appreciatively at the sleek garb and how it amplified his movements. "Pretty sick, right?"
"Beyond sick! Yuh strides ahead of the class now, Blur," Tanya praised, giving his arm an admiring squeeze. "I bet yuh agile as lightning in this outfit too."
Her praise made pride swell in Devon's chest. "Ya dun know. Allow me to demonstrate the effects!" Backing up several paces, Devon broke into a sprint, accelerating to his top speed along the open beach.
Tanya's eyes widened seeing how he practically glided across the sand, boots kicking up plumes in his wake. She laughed aloud watching Devon parkour up onto a cluster of boulders in seconds, effortlessly leaping higher and pushing off harder in the frictionless costume.
Landing in a nimble crouch atop the tallest rock, Devon glanced down at Tanya's impressed face, unable to suppress his grin. "So, how that rate?" he called, basking in her awe. This was the feeling he craved.
"Off the charts, star athlete!" Tanya cheered, shading her gaze against his silhouette framed by the luminous full moon. "Yuh born to model that suit. A real blur in motion, mon!"
Hopping back down to the beach, Devon sighed happily. "Give thanks, T. Mi heart feel ready to burst finally embracing this side of myself." On instinct, he pulled the bandana up over his nose, completing the masked vigilante look.
Seeing The Blur persona fully assembled left Tanya starstruck anew. "Yuh know, ever since getting these powers, part a' me wondered how it would feel moving like you do."
Cocking his head, Devon considered it and then smiled. "Tell yuh what, I can give you a small taste a' mi world, if yuh trust me. But it can be...intense." He offered his gloved hand.

Tanya glanced at his outstretched palm and then back up at the mysterious young hero before her. Her heart fluttered strangely. Swallowing her nervousness, she reached out and clasped his hand. "I trust you, Blur."
A thrill ran through Devon hearing his alias spoken with such faith. "Okay, I won't let nothing happen to yuh. Just close yuh eyes and hold on!"
The excitement and trepidation in Tanya's face was visible as she tightly shut her eyes. Moving behind and embracing her closely with both arms around her waist, Devon inhaled deeply. "3, 2, 1, here we gooo!"
The world slowed to a crawl around them. Devon's own perceptions heightened. With Tanya secured gently to his torso, he tapped the wellspring of speed and they shot forth in a streaking blur imperceptible to outside eyes.
The landscape became a tunnel vision smear as Devon carried them both forward with perfect control and efficiency. One second they stood on seaside sand, the next perched atop the clocktower of Seacrest High dozens of miles inland. It felt utterly unreal.
Heart pounding as timeflow returned to normal, Devon kept holding Tanya steady in his arms atop the windy precipice. "Whoa, quite a ride, right?" he spoke by her ear. "Go ahead and open your eyes now."
Tanya's lashes fluttered as she tried adjusting to the swirling sensations inside her. Then she took in the staggering view of their campus and the surrounding parish laid out far below. Vertigo gripped her.
"H-how we...? When did you...?" she stammered in disbelief.
Devon flashed a sly grin beneath his mask. "Pretty damn cool, eh?"
"This is impossible!" Tanya exclaimed, clinging tighter unconsciously to Devon for balance. "We were just by the cliffs and now... you teleported us here inna blink!"
Laughing, Devon helped Tanya sit carefully atop the sloped shingles. "Nah nothing as fancy as teleportation. Is just me tapping my raw speed temporarily. Pretty sick rush though, right?" His eyes were bright with exhilaration behind the mask.
Settling her dizzy thoughts, Tanya shook her head in awe. "Sick ain't even begin describing that, man. Yuh gifts be truly godlike!" She met Devon's gaze with newfound wonder. "I can't even imagine what else yuh might achieve, Blur."
Suddenly self-conscious under her awed stare, Devon chuckled. "Yeah, well... is thanks to your encouragement I discover my potential at all." He nudged her shoulder. "We in this together, remember?"
Tanya smiled at that, but her wide-eyed expression remained. Gazing at this wondrous friend and his gifts in new light, she found herself leaning in slowly as though magnetically drawn.
Devon froze uncertainly as Tanya's face neared his. Without thinking, he tilted and began meshing his own lips into hers. The moment felt fated. But barely before contact, Devon's phone started buzzing loudly in his hip pouch. They jerked apart awkwardly. Cursing inwardly at the disruption, Devon fished out the device. He recognized his mother's ringtone.
"Sorry, gottta grab this. Mama probably worried sick bout mi being out so late," Devon explained, sheepishly avoiding Tanya's eyes as he answered and reassured Norissa he was on the way back already.
When the brief call ended, tense silence hung between them atop the windy roof. Devon wasn't sure what might've just happened between himself and Tanya in the heat of emotions. But he couldn't leave his mother fretting.
"I uh… probably should give you a lift back home quick before heading in too," Devon finally said awkwardly.
Tanya looked equally flustered. "Yeah good idea..." She took Devon's offered hand again and reflexively shut her eyes for the hyper-speed descent.
Within seconds, she felt their movement halt and opened her eyes to find herself on the familiar doorstep of her home. Tanya didn't even get a chance to properly thank Devon before he gave an apologetic wave and vanished into the night once more.
Alone with her racing thoughts, Tanya touched her lips as if to recapture the potent moment atop the tower. But Devon was long gone, likely sorting through the same confusing feelings now. Sighing, Tanya went inside and tried focusing her restless energy on completing some Cocoa Fox costume additions. This night had awakened sensations and possibilities that would need further reflection.
