Vulengate

“Vulengate is a place where there is no realism. There is magic, sorcery, enchanting, and most of all, levels.”

-Scaldafar, Elven Scholar

I awake laying in a comfortable wooden cot, inside a weird tent in what looks like the middle nowhere. The shack is a humble adobe reminding me of the classical Native American Teepees. Inside, other than the cot there is a bucket of water, and a longbow with a quiver. Surprisingly I notice that my leg is healed but my thoughts are interrupted by someone stepping into the teepee.

He looks old, possibly too old and is dressed in a forest green wizard’s cloak and carries a dark wood wizard’s staff that is intricately carved. After he comes in, he introduces himself as Scaldafar, the scribe for the elven village. Although I’m still in a faze he apologizes that I got into Vulengate – whatever that is and says that I got brought here involuntarily by Vasyli for “hunting in his waters”.

He realizes that I am gravel confused and starts explaining… “Vulengate is an intricate land which co-exists as an alternate universe in the cosmos. It has a one in a kind system where there are such things as exp (experience points), levels, attributes, skills, magic, traits, and magic.” Scaldafar also mentions that the races are at war and other races are being brought involuntarily brought into the war.

Currently, he has been incarnated as an elf because of his last moments on Earth. Elves, to his dismay, were still not in the war because of their remote location on the island of Vulengate. Scaldafar did warn me that they were going to be brought into the war either way. I am said to be extremely valuable because humans had the best benefits and stronger souls than most races. Even if you changed into a different race, you would keep your traits.

To start, Scaldafar told me to try and will my description and once I willed it into place I was amazed. It described me perfectly and even I was surprised at my attributes.

(Visit Arteaga’s Island to find out)

Scaldafar mentioned that if I wanted to advance further in knowledge of myself, I would need to visit Arteaga’s Island to advance further. First, Scaldafar said he would escort me there and then they would equip me with gear and sent me out on my way. The way to the island – or island portal was guarded. Rightly so. The temple was Japanese style being decorated by golden carving of a dragon. Scaldafar said that I alone should enter so I walked in.

The island was extremely small housing only the lone entry portal and a pedestal with a thick book on it. Then suddenly a lime green winged figure popped up that reminded me of a draconian. He greeted me saying “welcome to Arteaga’s Island and I am your guide. To answer your question, yes. I am a draconian”. So, it seemed that he was draconian after all. Hrmph… Even after nearly a week away from gaming, my definitions weren’t rusty.

“So, dear sir, to advance further and learn more skills you would need to choose traits and skill from your marks and tokens. Currently, you have 100 marks and one hundred tokens. You have more than usual tokens and marks because of your human origin. Most people would get only around 10 of each when they start. You can spend your marks on leveling your traits, while you can spend your tokens on leveling and choosing your skills.

Now, you may be curious why you are getting so lucky, well that’s because in the beginning of Vulengate, there were thousands of races, and most of them fell victim to all the blood thirsty monsters that lay within the region. And, because of your original race, you will be set back to human and be put within the wilds of Vulengate. So, now make your decisions! Suddenly, a window pops up in my mind as a focus to them I realize that I have a choice, to be a mage, or fighter. I decided to become a fighter because it would let me focus on self-defense, and at higher levels I would still be able to focus on my magic. So, I decided to invest my skill points into the longsword, light armor, shields, and healing magic.

After my choices I was taking to the intermediate armory. It was a large industrial-like building that reminded me of a warehouse. Inside there were many swords, battle axes, shields, and armor. First, I tasked with picking an armor type. There were three styles, light, medium, and heavy armor. Light armor was designed for maneuverability and is usually made from leather, or light materials. Medium armor is normally made from varieties of steel or alloy. Meanwhile heavy armor is made from maximum protection steels and alloys. Mostly only tanks wear it because of its decreased maneuverability. I decided to choose light armor because of my increased skill in the subject. As for all the types of light armor, I decided to take the Padded Carbon-Steel Alloy. It would be durable, protective, and soft.

For my weapon, I decided to take a skarral-coated carbon short sword with an Increased damage enchantment. It would let me get easy-kills while having easiness in wielding. For a shield, I decided to obtain a spell that would let be craft one from magic. That way, it would take up less space and would have infinite durability.
