A New Friend

“Fornagadon was a village to be reckoned with. And yet, it fell because of a meager magic missile that hit it when it’s shield were being repaired. The missile, nocked down the basilica causing a giant magical fire that in a few days, burnt down the town”

-Scaldafar, Elven Scholar

Before I set out, I decided to live alone for a few days, so we agreed to meet at a burnt-down seaside village northwest of here. So, I set out hoping to catch some breakfast. The walk through the forest was beautiful. Moss covered boulders speckling the hillside, with the river snaking its way through digging itself a crevice. The bees humming their way flower to flower, the ground itself blooming with snowdrops after the snow. This place was much different from earth. With nature keeping its hold on this world – unlike earth.

I keep on running. All the way up the mountain. The slope slowly sloping upward with specks of snow starting to dot the surroundings. The snowdrops and trees getting smaller and scarcer by the minute. Suddenly, the trees open and a see a valley, with a lake and waterfall on one side, and – a cave on the mountain face.

The place where I spent days in after the crash. At this point, I realize that this is a copy. A copy of earth. But, without all the man-made structures. Maybe, I realize, I can end all of this and go back the way I came here. But life on “earth” had no meaning. All I did was bathe in my rich father’s money and drive cars. Here, however, I have friends. I have a meaning, to explore – to hunt – to – thrive.

I enter the cave. Everything is untouched, pristine. I exit. The waterfall to the left ending to a wonderful view. I exit and roam near the climbable part of the cliff face. I start scaling up, up, and up. Finally, I get to the top. This mountain, a protrusion in a calm sea of rolling green hills going from around the mountain. Beauty. What would I have seen on earth, A sea with many buildings, or plastic bottles polluting the dirty brown ocean?

The earth, it’s my friend.
