Chapter 10 - Opportunity.

Chapter 10 - Opportunity.

There is a saying- "Opportunity lies in Chaos." - and, as edgy as that might sound, those words have a bit of truth to them. Because things always get destroyed during a moment of unrest, the right people can find the right opportunity to build these things back. "Nature adheeres a vacuum," is also a great way of saying it.

And, as the Sect I am on gets ravaged by fights between literal superhumans wearing what I can only describe as bathrobes (Gi my ass.) - People will find Opportunity to get something out of all this. Things like unlikely allies, friends, and bonds can be gained here but also storage rings full of useful stuff that can increase people's cultivation.

But I wasn't interested in any of that. Or, they aren't at the top of my priority at least. Why? It's simple, because my System already gave me the proper motivation to participate in the fight-

New Quest!

Fight in the chaos and either help the Deep Running Rivers and Oceans Sect or the invaders!

To honest, I was pretty satisfied to test out my theory on whether or not I can get Qi by killing people but this is good too.

I dodged a large log thrown my way and ran forward. What the hell do I do?

Everything and everywhere is on fire, people are shooting sword strikes, lasers, and other stuff out of their palms or other body parts and the cultivators that can't do any that ran around and hit whoever they considered their enemy. With this much open space, the fighting isn't as intense and hard as I thought it was and actually, I can run around the place and consider my options without finding anyone that wants to kill me.

I heard something and the hair on the back of my neck stood up. I jumped away and closed my eyes when dirt threatened to enter them. When I landed, I jumped again, this time with as much force as I could muster and when I felt cold air waving across my hair, I finally opened my eyes and looked back and there, on the spot where I just was, is a man glaring at me.

He held a sword and unlike the bathrobe wearing weirdos, this one actually wore proper attire for the night, he was dressed in all black, had a long-sleeved shirt that covered the entirety of his arms, pants that did the same, and had his entire head covered in cloth.

The guy stared at me through the ninja slit on his cloth helmet, then I saw his eyes glow for a moment before he jumped- he was much faster than I am and before I knew it, his sword is just there, right next to my neck and aimed to slice it.

With widened eyes, I circulated my Qi and raised my hand to block it-

Blood spilled and I grunted in pain. I grit my teeth and hit him with a palm strike square in the chest.

Air left his lungs and he fell down in another direction. Meanwhile I landed on the ground with both my feet. I stared at the spot that I knew where that guy landed at before appraising my arm, it looked damage and was bleeding so hard that my body is now stained in red but it looked worse than it actually is. Circulating my Qi pretty much slowed down the bleeding and tearing my shirt to use as a bandage solved the issue.

Somewhat.

I winced when tried to move my right arm. Fuck, why the hell did I block with this?

But the pain didn't matter, not right now anyways- I started looking around, since this place is the "living quarters" of the outer disciples for the Sect, there are houses all around me, all of them are mounds covered in leaves and other stuff but with their height and how wide they are, I can use them for decent enough cover.

I mentally noted that there are 4 huts surrounding me in a rough circle before moving on for cover, I picked a random hut and hid inside. I found a spot and closed my eyes, then I started circulating my Qi while focusing on my senses.

The cold helped me numb the pain while I slowly healed the wound. All the while I continued to listen to whatever noise I can hear outside, the sound of animals were missing, replaced by the loud explosions from Qi blasts. I ignored the things that sounded like a distant echo and tried to listen in to the general area closest to me, seconds passed and I started to tense, bit by bit the sounds died out and it was only when I circulated my Qi to my ears that I managed to hear it-

Footsteps, close to me. I grit my teeth and stood up, I looked around the circular hut. Now, where would someone like him attack at?

Playing around wasn't in my head today so instead of trying to predict things randomly, I genuinely tried to listen in to the footsteps to determine which direction they are coming from. I snapped my head south and grinned. Gotcha.

I slowed down the circulation of my Qi and moved around and in response, the footsteps outside became quicker. Hurried.

I stood in the southeast corner of the room, just a few feet away from the door, and then I started to do the first form of the Fist of Death. I don't know how to fight, sure, but catching you off guard should be more than enough.

If it killed Gang Gong in one shot, who's to say that it wouldn't do the same to this guy?

-Well, as it turns out, probably everyone because my attacker is in front of my while I was almost finished with the stance. While I pulled my fist back, the man's sword is already drawn out, ready to slice me, both our Qi's were activated and I don't know if it's a determining factor or not but I think he's a little bit stronger than me.

I let out my punch, aiming for the guy's sword, my fist met his blade and I felt myself getting sliced for a split second before ice erupted and the Qi inside the blade died.

Then the blade broke and the man was sent flying to the other side of the room.

I released a deep breath and grinned in excitement, "FUCK!" I yelled excitedly, "shit this is actually pretty exciting!" I can get used to this!

I fell forwards when a dagger hit me in the stomach. I coughed out blood when I straightened my back and I got into a coughing fit that's bad enough for someone to mistake me to have a throat disease. Blood spilled out of my mouth like a waterfall, first red, then black. When I saw the severe color change, I sat down and circulated my Qi.

It was fine at first but after a few minutes, pain bad enough to make my mind fuzzy engulfed my body. I was in that agony for what felt like an eternity before it disapeared.

When I opened my eyes, I came face to face with my attacker. Half his clothes were torn apart and I could see blackened parts in some parts of the exposed skin, his face got the worse of it, more than half it is black and his right eye is bloated and completely red, like blood had run up his head and just stayed there, pooling his eye in the process.

His remaining eye glared at me with full of hate and it was only because of this that I knew he was still alive.

I stood up with a grimace and walked over to the guy, his hand was outstretched in a form that is obviously for throwing. I shook my head, "you know, I wanted to hate you for throwing that dagger at me and-" speaking of which, I pulled it out of my stomach, "-making me suffer through all that but fuck you look like you're going through worse."

I raised the dagger and hesitated for only a single second before I swung it down and severed his head, "sorry," I said with a bow before tying the dagger to my pants with a torn rag.

Killing people didn't feel as bad as it is anymore. I don't know if that sort of thing is bad or not.
