Chapter 5 The day before the journey

The soldier’s got some maids who gave me a change of clothes. They left the room and the maids came in to change my clothes.

They looked professional, that is, until they started bring the dresses.

At first it was just three maids each with a different dress, they each had a big smile on their face which made me shutter. Immediately I tried to run towards the door, where the soldiers were so they’d quickly take me away, but one maid on each side grabbed my arm and stopped me.

The third in front of me stood with a smile on her face and said “You can’t go out wearing that my dear, let us help you change into something more, comfortable.”

They put the dresses on me one by one as if I’m a dress up doll and then after the third one when I thought it was finished, a fourth one appeared along with another maid, and another, I swear it was like a zombie invasion where they just keep on coming with no end.

After who knows how many dresses, a soldier screamed, “IT’S BEEN 3 HOURS, STOP MAKING THE KING WAIT!” and with that, the maids quickly changed me into a yellow dress and pushed me out of the room while whispering in my ear “if you ever need a dress, come to us, we’ll have lots of fun together.” And on that day, I vowed, to never approach the king’s maids ever again.

As the soldiers took me to the Audition Hall, it was already morning, at first I was happy that I finally got away, but then I remembered about the second problem.

How am I going to explain what happened last night!? I was seriously putting my head into overdrive thinking of an excuse that could possibly explain what happened.

There’s no way I’m telling him I killed them, but it wasn’t me or the other me killed them, they’ll just think I’m crazy.

Maybe I should just run away? Or lie my way through? Yup, those plans will do.

As I entered the Audition Hall, the soldiers that were behind me stood around me to make sure I couldn’t escape, well there goes plan A.

The old man with the blue magician robe and the old wooden staff came forward. Now that I look closely, he’s not just old, he’s ancient as. He had blue eyes, long blueish white hair and a long white beard he had wrinkles all over his face. He drew a bunch of circles in midair and said, “My name is Illysp, the Royal Mage, I have placed around that can detect whether you’re telling the truth, so speak the truth for your own sake.”

Well, there goes plan B with lying my way out. I guess I can go with the back-up plan, stay silent and hope for the best.

I stood there, staring at the old man who looks like he’s in his 60s with redish white hair, red eyes and wrinkles all over. He was wearing a red robe decorated with golden dragon, a red cape with white fur on the rims along with a golden crown on his head. Now that I think about it, where are the other 3 young men and women that were around him last time?

“So miss Yang Guang, will you tell us what has happened in your room last night?”

I froze, not because I didn’t plan to reply, but because I was shocked. How did he know my name? Did he know the old me?

Instead of answering his question, I looked at him with anxious eyes and asked back, “Who am I?”

The king’s expression instantly changed from the mischievous smirk before into a baffled one.

“Do you not know who you are?”

“No, I lost all my memories, I don’t know where to go, or what to do, but I do know I have to get stronger to fill my promise with the one who gave me this name, even if he’s a no good lousy stupid lizard that doesn’t keep his promises. I swear if I ever see him again, I’ll beat him black and blue all over.”

“Oh? Interesting, do you mind telling me about this lizard or about your promise?”

With that question, I instantly shut up. Should I tell him about guarding the world or Guang? No, I’m too weak to protect myself if the Guais know of my existence, so I must stay quiet and leak as little information as possible.

With that decided, I apologized that I couldn’t tell the king of either, but I ensured that it will not cause harm to him or his kingdom.

“I see, how about what happened last night to the assassins.”

I was sweating buckets, deciding whether to tell him or not, luckily, he noticed my situation and told me “You don’t need to answer our questions, since you’re our son’s “Guardian”, eventually everything will come to light anyways.”

This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road; report any instances of this story if found elsewhere.

At first I was glad about not having to explain about the assassins, but then I noticed something was off…

“What do you mean by “Guardian”?” I asked the king, hoping the answer would be a simple bodyguard or something, but what I got back, was something unbelievable.

“Oh? You don’t know? A “Guardian” is a special familiar using a special method that gets their soul linked to the summoner. The summoner and the familiar live and die at the same time, but they’re able to resurrect the dead one with their own life force, preserving their own life. The summoner can also gains a portion of the familiar’s skills and stats, unless the difference between them is too big, then the summoner doesn’t get any and the familiar will have to use less power so they don’t harm their summoner with the excess mana and kill both of them at the same time. Because their soul is linked, they can feel each other’s emotions, read each other’s thoughts or use telepathy with mutual consent”

Yup, it’s worse than being married, it’s literally “till death do us apart” sort of thing, and this is linked with a prince… This is not even funny, I can already see where this is going…

Feeling this is unfair, I asked “Why do I feel like the summoner gets so much more advantage?”

“Hahaha, Well, the spell’s created by the summoner, so it’s obvious the summoner gets the advantage right?”

*Sigh* “This sucks.”

“Hahaha, it’s not that bad, you’re linked to the second prince of the human race, the biggest genius we had for thousands of years in both magic and sword play.”

“Yea, you try getting forcibly chained to some guy you’ve never seen or heard of, only to find out, your life is in their hands, they get a portion of your skills and stats and they can read your mind.”

As I was complaining without a care to the king, I noticed the heavy bloodlust behind me. I’m in so much trouble…

The king laughed as he announced, “You know, you either have guts of steel to talk to the king of a whole race so familiarly or you’re just a big idiot.”

Yup, I’m a big idiot, I’ve been complaining like a child to the king in front of a bunch of his soldiers in his castle…

If I could see my own face, I’m sure it’d be beet red from shame.

“Well you’re interesting, we’ll forgive you and let you go rest for now, later, we’ll have the second prince tell you about what’s going to happen.”

I said my “Thanks.” Before I left the hall and went to my room. As I jumped into the bed hoping for a moment to relax, the maids returned. With a smile on their faces, they announced, “Let us help you change into some more comfortable clothes to wear.”

“NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!”

---

(in the audience hall)

“Your majesty, are you sure we can leave that girl be? We knowing nothing about her and she was able to single-handedly able to kill eight assassins, not to mention her bizarre regenerative ability.”

“We know Illysp, but remember the truth barrier was up the whole time, she did not lie about her loss of memories, nor about not causing harm to us and our kingdom. Combined with her being lv1, and a person from another world, we’d say she’s a likeable clueless airhead.”

“I hope you’re right, if not, we’ll be facing a monster.”

“Don’t worry, that’s why we placed the scroll in his hands anyways, We have faith in the genius Kazuki and he knows this too. With his talents, we’re going to try to win her over, there’s also a back-up plan in place, but I hope we’ll never have to use it…”

The air in the court instantly turned dark, but then a maid walked in and whispered something into the king’s ears.

“Oh? Now we’ll just have to wait for her to fall for the…”

“NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!”

“Hahahahaha, yup that one’s an airhead.”

“Your majesty! What did you do!?”

“Oh nothing, don’t worry about it Illysp, just having some fun” said the king as he quickly got up and followed the maid out of the hall.

“He’d be a great king, if only he’d stop acting like a child all the time with his pranks” sighed Illysp as he left to prepare the items necessary for the hero’s journey and the prince and princess’s stay at the academy .
