Mike’s POV
“Nikita no!” I splashed into the water and half ran, half swam to where she disappeared. Nothing was there. Perhaps she was clumsy and the water took her away.
I placed my hands on my head knowing how unlikely it was as the water was so transparent. If she was being taken away, where could she be?
What have I done?
She is gone, disappeared and it’s all my fault.
As I thought of what to do, I felt the river bed shake.
“Nikita?” I said, hoping to God it was my sister.
It wasn’t.
The tallest and darkest woman I’ve ever met rose up from the water. The water droplets clung to her skin like pearls and her clothes of rich kente too were drenched. Her black hair which was twisted up fell loosely about her shoulders, covering her bare breasts.
It was the red glowing eyes that gave her away to be a goddess, but it was her facial expression that gave her away to be Mawu. She looked like Nikki when she saw ice-cream. Her wide thick lips curled into a smile and her hands clutched her hair in relief. She looked up at the sky like it was the first time and stomped into the water like a child in the pool. The water that was knee deep to me just bare covered her toes, due to her size.
The tale has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.
“Where is Nikita?” Neil yelled in my ear, surprising me. I was so engrossed by the god standing before me that I had forgotten my surroundings.
“She will be with you very soon” Mawu chipped, her voice clear like the water we were standing in. She knelt down in it in absolute delight, marveling over how it fell down her fingers.
“Will she be alright?” Neil asked again, worry in his voice.
“Yes, she is fine” She answered, drinking from the river.
Snap out of it! I told myself. I felt like I was held by a charm, to not move and stare are at Mawu as she played in the water. I looked back at Shango on the bank and realized he too was held speechless by her presence.
“What is all this?” Neil demanded “What have you done with her?”
“I have told you, boy!” Mawu snapped, her red eyes wrinkling in annoyance.
“It’s not a good idea to piss of the gods, Neil” I warned.
“You’re not worried? Your sister gets swallowed by the river and then she shows up? What if something happened to her?”
Fair point.
As Neil was about to yell at Mawu again, she descended into the water with her eyes in the sky and one right hand stretched to the heavens.
“My God” Neil swore.
In a beat, Nikki flew out of it and landed face first in the water. We rushed to her, to help her up.
“Mike, we have to go” she said, wiping what looked like blood from her lip. She was shivering from head to toe.
“Are you okay?” I asked, finally getting my voice.
“We have to go now!” Nikki demanded, her eyes wild and searching, her shaking hands clutching my shirt.
When I read through her thoughts, I knew exactly why.
