Chapter 5: Hunt For The King of Thieves

Chapter 5: Hunt For The King of Thieves

Zane and Dre are sitting in the living room watching TV when the phone rings. They both look at each other and answer it.

"Hello?" Zane answers.

"Is this Zane? The one who knows how to use a sword?" A voice asks.

"Who the hell is this?" Zane asks.

"I'm disappointed that you ignored my invitation Zane.." The voice says.

"Who is this?" Zane asks again.

"Don't pretend like you don't know who I am." The voice says.

"What do you want?" Zane asks.

"Well, I suppose you could say that I'm looking for you. I need you to come to my place so we can discuss this business deal of mine. I want you to join me by whatever means necessary. Forget the old mans tutelage, come train under me and I'll make sure you're well taken care of" The voice says.

"And if I refuse?" Zane asks.

"Then I will have to take matters into my own hands. I'm afraid that there won't be much left of you after that" The voice says.

"Fine, I'll be there tomorrow. I'll bring Dre too, since you seem to be interested in him as well" Zane says.

"Excellent, see you then" The voice says and hangs up, all records of the phone call are automatically wiped from the phones recording system.

Zane and Dre turn to each other and nod.

"Sounds like he's got something planned for us" Dre says.

"Yeah, but I've never met this guy before, so we should be careful" Zane says.

" I've fought him many times over the years, he's good but not invincible" Dre says.

"So, you've beaten him before?" Zane asks.

"Of course, I'm the best" Dre says.

"I guess we should go then" Zane says.

"Indeed" Dre says.

They get ready and head out. When they arrive at the King of Thieves' mansion, they see a huge gate blocking their way.

"Looks like he's expecting us" Zane says.

"Let's go" Dre says and charges the gate.

He swings his blade and cuts through the chains holding the gate closed. He kicks the gate open and steps inside.

Bodyguards armed with various melee weapons line each side of the garden, they witness Dre slice his way through the gate but don't react, instead they bow in his presence. To be in the general vicinity of the worlds greatest swordsman is an honor.

The King of Thieves stands behind a massive desk, flanked by bodyguards. Dre and Zane walk in and stand in front of the King of Thieves.

"Ah, my newest apprentice. Welcome" The King of Thieves says and stands up. His bald head reflecting the light from the chandelier above, his tight black suit making him look more like a mafia boss than a king.

A case of content theft: this narrative is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.

"You're the one who called?" Zane asks.

"Yes, I am" The King of Thieves says.

"So, what is it you want?" Zane asks.

"I want you to join me in my organization. You will be well taken care of and your future will be assured" The King of Thieves says.

"And why would I do that?" Zane asks.

"Because I'm offering you everything you could ever dream of. Power, wealth, women... and a better living standard than the old man can provide." The King of Thieves says.

"So you're saying you'll teach me how to use a sword better than Dre?" Zane asks.

"Of course, I'll also give you a new name, a new identity, and money to fund your life however you wish" The King of Thieves says.

"Why are you doing this?" Zane asks.

"I think you know why" The King of Thieves says.

"Humor me" Zane says.

"Very well, I am the most powerful thief in the world. I steal from the rich and give to the poor. I am feared by kings and presidents. I have defeated every almost every fighter I've faced and yet I'm still here. Why? Because I'm not greedy, I only want to help those who cannot help themselves. I'm the greatest thief in the world because I am the best person in the world. If you want to be great, you must start with helping others. And if you want to be even greater, you must become the best person in the world. That's why I want you to join me. I can give you everything you could ever desire, but you must first learn to share. Share your powers with me...the old mans secrets...share them with me and I will reward you beyond anything you could ever imagine" The King of Thieves says.

"What if I refuse?" Zane asks.

"Then I will have to take matters into my own hands, and take them by force..." The King of Thieves says.

"I'm sorry, but I'm going to have to decline" Zane says.

"I see" The King of Thieves says.

"Thank you for considering me, but I'm afraid I'm going to pass" Zane says.

The king of thieves, whistles and a butler comes from out of the side corridor and hands him two katanas, one for each hand. "A gift for you, young Zane. I'll do you and your master a favor and not kill you both where you stand. I'd much rather watch you grow more and more powerful as time goes on. I've always been curious about the strength of the new generation of apprentices. You seem to be very skilled. I'll keep an eye on you. For now."

Zane picks up the swords and walks towards the door with Dre.

"Wait" The King of Thieves says. "Take this as well"

The King of Thieves hands Zane a card.

"This is my number. Call me when you decide to join me. I will be waiting" The King of Thieves says.

"Thank you" Zane says and exits the room.

Dre looks at the card in Zane's hand.

"Is that a phone number?" Dre asks.

"It's a number to call him" Zane says.

"Well, lets get out of here before I lose my patience" Dre says.

They leave the office and exit the building. They go back home and Dre goes inside and changes into his normal clothes. He then goes outside and waits for Zane. Zane comes out dressed in a black hoodie, jeans, and sneakers.

"What should I do with these two swords?" Zane asks.

"Just put them around back " Dre says.

Zane does so and they continue about their night, having dinner. While eating Zane ask Dre what The King of Thieves meant by 'new generation of apprentices'

"That's just something he said. It was probably a metaphor. Like how we're all brothers in arms or something" Dre says.

"But he knew about my skills. How did he know?" Zane asks.

"He knows everything" Dre says.

"How is that possible?" Zane asks.

"It's called being one of the best, that and he has a lot of power and influence. Riches can buy you any material object, including people and what they know. Remember when I mentioned there's only about a handful of swordsman who can open their third eye?

"Yeah" Zane says.

"There's only two others besides us and him. He said he was curious about the new generation of swordsmen, that's probably what he was talking about. But he doesn't know everything. He's only seen glimpses of our abilities. We don't have to tell him anything."

"You really think he's after us?" Zane asks.

"We need to stay alert. We have to be careful. He has a lot of resources. There's no telling what he might do next, stay on your guard. The King of Thieves is a very cunning and conniving man. Rather strong too, don't let his bald head fool you. He's a master swordsman." Dre says.

"I know, I figured as much." Zane says.

"Good, now come on, lets get some rest. Tomorrow is going to be a busy day" Dre says.
