Chapter 5. Pikachu Slayer

Chapter 5. Pikachu Slayer

“I think we should go for pikachu.” I told Emma, after spending many days researching on all the common low level mobs with high density and ease of access and finally coming up with a plan.

“Don’t those things mostly deal magic damage?” Emma asked, like she didn’t already know the fact that they indeed are magic damage dealers and I have a high physical defense with shit low magic defense.

“So here is the plan. Those yellow rats are everywhere and super abundant and not that strong. But as you have pointed out, since they will only use electric attacks, if we buy an item that negates lightning damage, they are basically a bunch of worthless sewer rats that I can slaughter with ease!” I explain my plan to my blondie.

“Got it! You look into their exact stats while I will get you an item that will add enough lightning resistance. Since they are low leveled, it shouldn’t cost too much to get a necklace or ring with enough stats!” Emma replied, knowing exactly where I was going with my thoughts.

I love this girl, I just wish that stupid ass old geezer would stop staring at me from the corner of my tiny room. The apartment is too small for me to not notice you! you damned old man. I didn’t even invite you, who gave you permission to even come inside my private property?

While I didn’t want to take advantage of Emma’s wealth, other than letting her spend the gold to get us all of the quality of life bonuses to allow us better access to the dungeons, I decided that it’s time for this rich blondie to assist me so I can make it to Tokyo Academy.

As much as I would have liked to do everything on my own, she was the only reason I made it this far anyways. And as a wise man once said, those that don’t use the advantages they are given are nothing but arrogant dumbasses. I fully agree with that statement and now that I think about it, I might have been that wise man who offered those wise words.

“Got it! Pikachu spawn between level 3 to level 5. Their only attack is thundershock with a base power of 40. Between 1% to 3% boost with each matt and int. Based on all data points, a pikachu will do between 45 to 60 lightning damage per hit with crit up to 120 damage.

With my goblin passive and gear right now, If you can get me something with at least 50 lightning resistance and cast a protection on me in case of a crit hit. we will be good to go. Oh, just the cheapest thing you can find is good. Thank you Emma!” I added, knowing the rich girl might just dump 10 years worth of my Seven Eleven pay into something way better than what I needed.

“Alright! Ordered you a cute necklace that has 52 lightning resistance! It should be delivered later today so we can start planning out the details and start farming pikachu tomorrow!” Emma said happily while I hoped those damn yellow rats would not disappoint me like the goblins did.

With the Hero System, an inventory was obvious just like any game you have ever played. Do I know the details of how they managed to make it work? Of course not, who the fuck do you think I am? A top scientist or engineer? I am just a simple slime slayer.

All I know is the method is similar to how the AI created those dungeons where you could have a small portal in the middle of the city and it takes you to a completely new world that’s massive in size.

However, there are a few major flaws in our inventory system. Unlike in video games where you can just click and sell your random junk for gold from your inventory or go to some npc and dump all your junk off.

Whenever a dungeon opens up, there are always scrap collectors outside bargaining to buy your shit for next to nothing because they know you don’t have any use with most of the junk and inventory space is limited so getting any extra gold is better than nothing.

I once had this old man trying to tell me the gears I got from the slimes were worthless and I should just let him have it for free. I would have kicked his ass if he wasn’t an old man. Actually, I was going to kick his ass anyways if Emma wasn’t holding me back.

Similarly, while it’s easy to post and link any item you want to sell on the marketplace and forums, there is no way of delivering the item over the net and just like I won’t be getting my necklace until the seller brings the item to a delivery service and they come knocking on my door. What a pain in the ass, I hope this real life game gets a QOL update soon.

And the worst part of the inventory system? Of course, it’s the limitation on the number of slots. I am not asking to have infinite slots but to only provide us with only 10 for free? Sure, if you are one of those ‘if you include the equipped slots, you technically have 19 or 20 depends on the type of weapon you use’ than yes, you are correct, but also, shut the fuck up.

Even for a lifelong slime slayer like me, having only 10 open slots is a joke unless I just want to leave things I could have sold for gold laying around the dungeon uncollected. The only positive from this rigged system is that at least the cost of new slots stays constant. If they have an exponential cost for each additional slot, I would have lost my shit.

Over the years, I have asked Emma to buy me additional slots as birthday presents and while she could have bought thousands of slots with her infinite wealth hack, I have been modest with my requests and at 17 years old, I have got myself a nice even 200 slots of inventory slots and that’s enough for our day to day hunting with plenty of room to spare.

“Oh yea, how many inventory slots do you have Emma?” I asked, suddenly curious since we are on the topic just as the girl and her butler were ready to leave as I got ready to head over to my job soon.

“1100. I sort them into 100 slots per item type and 100 extra for potions and what not. Don’t think anymore is necessary especially for us since we only loot low level items with nothing that’s really worth keeping. But I heard potions become way more important when you get to higher level dungeons.” Emma answered happily as we headed out the door.

This neat and organized blondie! Good thing others can’t inspect my inventory! I looked at my own slots not sorted into tabs at all with random junk all over the place and random slots in between stuff empty. Wait! Did I just spot a random porno magazine? I guess I have some reading material for after work tonight.

If you are wondering why I bother keeping magazines when you can just watch whatever online. It’s that retro feel man. Retro!

Saying goodbye to Emma and Albert after they walked with me to the store, I began my shift already looking forward to getting off work. No, you fucking perverts. I am not talking about reading the porno mag, I am talking about getting my necklace so I can start my pikachu slaying and get a new skill.

“Morning Ken!” Emma waved at me as I walked into the classroom the next morning in her usual cheery energetic self.

Walking to my last row corner seat that’s reserved only for the protagonist, I knew the day that I was chosen for this desk, my role as the lead character was set in stone.

“Did you get the necklace?” Emma asked, who sat next to me.

“Sure did! Thanks Emma. I can’t believe you had to pay 5000 gold for this piece of shit. The only useful thing on it is the freaking lightning resistance!” I replied.

After picking up the package at my door when I got home from work, I was shocked to see that this thing could be worth 50 dollars. That’s like 6500 yen! 2 whole days of work for me to pay for this stupid necklace!

“Can’t be helped. Equipment with more than 50 single stats even if it’s not total mdef and just lightning resist will only drop in Level B or higher dungeons.” Emma answered while oblivious to her way of thinking.

Since she is so rich and 5000 gold means nothing to her, I won’t chew her out especially since I realized it was my unclear instruction but I have literally so many equip slots open, why couldn’t this blondie who sometimes acts so smart just get me 2 rings with 25 each or some other junk items that added 50 lightning resist when combined?

No point complaining when she already paid for the item. Oh, I will always bitch to myself for the money wasted but we spent the rest of the school day going over pikachu’s stats and what is the best and most efficient way to kill 100k of those yellow rats so I can gain another skill that will hopefully aid my eventual entrance exam to Tokyo Academy.

30 minutes before school ended, Emma got an alert that a pikachu dungeon was opening up in Akihabara and promptly registered our party and we headed over straightaway after school ended.

Compared to the slime and goblin dungeons, while this one was also a level E dungeon, the line to enter the dungeon was much shorter as Emma and I were able to get inside after only a few minutes of wait time.

Apparently, Pokemon was the biggest and most profitable game back over 500 years ago and this yellow rat happened to be the symbol of Japan. Not sure how much truth there is since when I tried to play this game, the graphics were shit, every new game was the same, every pokemon looked the same, the game was so easy to beat, my team was literally in their level 40s when I beat the whole game.

Why the fuck do you let the pokemon get to level 100 if you can beat the entire game with level 40s? Anyways, I figured people back then might just be stupid and need all 100 levels or I am simply a gaming god and that’s why I have been chosen to be the protagonist.

Looking at those cute little yellow rats, I can see why this dungeon might not be as popular since some probably felt bad slaying them compared to those ugly motherfucking goblins or those nasty slime blobs.

“DIE! You cutesy looking rats! DIE! And give me an op skill!” I shouted as I slaughtered those yellow rats.

Did I feel bad? You bet your ass I didn’t. I can’t wait until I slaughter 100k of those cutesy balls of lightning and gain my much deserved op skill.
