The Templar Knights

"Dragon! There's a dragon in the sky!"

A frail old lady shouted in the middle of a small rundown village, warning the others who lived there. A large flying creature covered the sky and blocked out the sun as it flew overhead. The villagers screamed in sync as they ran, most hiding under Market-stands, while others ran back inside their wooden homes.

"Rrrrrr… ROAAAAA!!!"

The dragon released steam from the small gaps in its teeth; the steam released a sizzling sound as if the dragon was bundling up intense heat inside of its jaws. Before they knew it, a torrent of flames rained from the sky and threatened to incinerate the entire village in one swoop, however, all hope wasn't lost just yet.

"Heeeeyaaaahh!"

The sound of a man came from some unknown location, and before they knew it, the flames that threatened their lives were evaporated. His magical sword slashed through the flames like butter, resistant to the fire.

"I-Is that a…?"

One of the villagers hiding underneath a table gasped, questioning the savior in front of them.

"It's a… TEMPLAR KNIGHT!"

"We're saved! The Templar knights are here from the Vrunemir Kingdom!"

The villagers were all joyous, shouting together as a Templar knight stood in the middle of their village, eyeing the dragon above.

"Return to your treacherous homelands dragon! We have no business with your kind!"

The Templar knight shouted boldly, however, the dragon flapped its wings about, pushing the market stands and even houses away inside of the village from its enormous size. As its wings agitated the village, it eventually hovered down to stand on its four legs, bowing its head to meet face-to-face with the knight.

"These people harmed my children and took them, hostage. I must know where my child is, or you'll meet a terrible fate with them as well, Templar knight."

The knight would point the edge of their sword at the dragon.

"Quiet you, foul creature! These humans are not powerful enough to do such a feat. Taking a dragon's child? Ha! You must believe I'm a fool if you think I'll fall for that!"

"It is what I expected. A human cannot reason with a dragon… nor can they listen to our words. How long will our pointless war last Templar Knight? Your pathetic Kingdom Vrunemir, and my Kingdom Basilisk. We have been at each other throats for over a millennium."

The Knight would grow quiet, hearing the dragon's words.

"We have indeed fought for ages Dragon, but your kind is savages to those of Vrunemir kingdom, and humans in general. Why should we stop the war? We will only stop until there's nothing left to kill of your kind!"

"YOU FOOL!"

The Black dragon in front of the knight shouted into the sky, raising its palm to strike at the knight against his body, sending him flying through a building.

"—Guh!"

The knight would skid across the ground, forming a trench from the collision into their body.

"I let my guard down…"

The dragon would take flight once more, fluttering above the village.

"Begone with the village, Templar Knight!"

"S-Shit… I'm gonna… die…!"

The knight held his chest as blood dripped from the open wound on his armor, even coughing up the blood inside of his helmet.

"Forgive me… Lord Vrunemir…"

"BE-GONEEEEEE!"

A case of theft: this story is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.

The dragon shouted from above in rage, releasing a wave of flames from its mouth toward the village and the knight. Its attack was powerful enough to spread for miles on end, however, the flames suddenly collided with an invisible barrier surrounding the village.

"How pathetic Galahallt. You're losing to some weak dragon such as this?"

A knight would suddenly walk in front of the Templar knight Galahallt.

"General Siegfried…?"

Another knight showed upon the village and looked up at the dragon in the sky.

('There's not one man who doesn't know of his name. General Siegfried is the most powerful human in the world. His power is said to even be above that of King Arthur… even his presence scares away the toughest of foes. There's no chance of this dragon winning, he's done for.')

Galahallt hesitantly laughed in pain, falling unconscious.

"Fumu. I'll take it from here Galahallt, you only need to rest."

"Could it be…?"

The dragon in the sky muttered underneath its voice.

"You are… General Siegfried, the symbol of humanity? Have you come this far to kill one dragon? Are you humans that desperate?"

The Black dragon talked in a tone of aggression.

"Desperate you say? I wouldn't go as far as to say that Black Dragon. I need Galahallt alive, to continue our march to the kingdom of Basilisk."

The Dragon gasped, its body language changing as if it went haywire.

"You mean… my kingdom? B-Basilisk? Are you all out of your mind? I must warn my people, quickly!"

The Black Dragon attempted to fly away, but as soon as it turned its head to the side in another direction, Siegfried was in front of it, holding a large blade above his head with two hands.

"You will not be leaving, Dragon!"

He swung his sword through the dragon's snout, as black flames followed behind in afterimages.

"GWAAAA—!"

The dragon would fly backward but lose its control, falling onto its back and trembling the ground beneath it.

"Look in the sky, it's General Siegfried! He's come this far to save us!"

One of the children in the village looked at humanity's hero in awe.

"As we proceed to attack Basilisk Kingdom, we will put an end to the World Serpent Jörmungandr, and he will no longer be a threat to the world anymore. After his death, Ouroboros duels will no longer be possible, and people will not make petty wishes to gain power or threaten the world."

The Dragon would turn to its side, its body weakened.

"The Ouroboros duels were created by Jörmungandr… to show how greedy you humans are… hehe…heh. It's not our fault that you humans steadily use the Ouroboros duels. It only shows how greedy and evil you humans are! You make a pathetic wish and hope to win the duel, and your battle is broadcasted worldwide across the entirety of Yggdrasil! People watch you fight in the Duel and they're driven in shame by how pathetic you all are for more power and riches!"

Siegfried would frown at the dragon's reply.

"…You dare? This is all an elaborate scheme from your pathetic father Jörmungandr! Nothing more!"

"It is no scheme Siegfried… it is only but an experiment. For so long many races have been concerned about the human race and how chaotic you all are, so lord Jörmungandr decided to create the Ouroboros duel to show the other races how greedy and chaotic your kind are. The fairies, giants, and elves all watch these duels and are steadily gaining more hate for the humans. The only reason they cannot destroy your race is that… you have the gods on your side…"

"So you're saying… that…—?"

"Yes, I am saying that the other races inside of Yggdrasil want the humans dead forever, and they will make plans on eliminating the gods to get to you all. Time is steadily ticking for judgment day to be cast upon the humans! These are my last words to you, Siegfried!"

"…Hnghhraaah!"

Siegfried shouted at the dragon's heart-aching words, slashing across its entire stomach, and decapitating it whole. Once the dragon died, it seemed as if its body slowly turned to particles, vanishing whole.

"That must be a lie… it is nothing more than a bluff…"

Siegfried looked down in thought.

"Is it true Hewo Siegfried…? Are da other waves gonna kill off da human people?"

A small child walked up to Siegfried and tugged on his cape. The General looked down at the child and his eyes swelled with minor tears, however, he wiped them away, not wanting to show weakness in front of a child.

"Ahaha… no, what the big bad dragon said is only a lie, I will protect the humans, don't worry."

The knight kneeled on one knee and would place his hand upon the child's head, rubbing his gauntlet back and forth along her scalp.

"I won't let anything happen, I promise."

He heartwarmingly smiled, causing the child to giggle, now hugging around his neck.

"I knew I can count on you, Hewo Siegfried! Mommy said you're the strongest in da world!"

She tightly hugged him, feeling safer than ever.

"Your mommy isn't lying to you, it is true; I am the strongest person in the world, and I will not lose to anyone. Now tell me, what is your name child?"

The kid would unwrap their arms from around his neck and stand back smiling.

"My name is Freya."

"Freya huh? What an adorable name, I'm sure one day it'll mean something great Freya."

Siegfried chuckled, now standing back up to turn his head to the side.

"General Siegfried!"

Another Templar knight shouted as a patrol of knights finally arrived as backup, however, they seemed to be holding a black carriage hostage while they all surrounded it.

"What is it?"

Siegfried questioned the knight.

"We have found the immigrant Cyrodel sir! He was traveling along with two females, but now they're our hostage!"

Siegfried eyes widened.

"You managed to capture him…?"

The General quickly jogged over to the patrol of Templar knights.

"Man this sucks! Why didn't you tell us you wanted Kyto? Seriously that's like the first thing you should've said!"

Elizabeth shouted at the Cyrodel as they had their hands tied behind their backs, the skeleton horses still shown in front.

"Be quiet… another knight is coming."

Grimhild would whisper to them both.
