Rumeria

---

Rumeria, a backwater planet nestled in the region of Midgard, was a place where the highest-ranked beings barely reached A-rank. Life here was harsh, especially for those without talent or backing. It was on this unassuming world that Lucian's story continued to unfold.

Every child on Rumeria awakened their system at ten years old, a pivotal moment that determined their future. For some, it meant a chance to be taken in by prestigious schools, organizations, or guilds. For others, it meant a life of obscurity and struggle. Lucian, a boy with silver-gray hair and a decent build that leaned more on the slim side and a visage that could induce a blush, had hoped for the former but faced the latter.

Growing up in the local orphanage, Lucian quickly learned the cruelty of the world. The orphanage was overseen by a tyrannical headmaster who cared little for the children under his charge, except for those with promising talents. When Lucian's system awakened, it revealed that he possessed lackluster potential. His statistics were low, and his skills were minimal. The headmaster, deeming him worthless, cast him out without a second thought.

At twelve years old, Lucian found himself living on the streets. The rigors of life tempered his mind and spirit. He learned to endure through sheer determination and willpower. Three years later, he glimpsed a spark of hope when he secured work at the Adventurers' Guild. It was a grueling contract that bound him almost like an indentured servant, but it beat living on the streets. As a porter, he bore equipment and supplies for adventuring teams, a role that was physically demanding and poorly compensated but provided him with shelter and sustenance.

On the eve of his eightieth birthday, Lucian prepared for another assignment. He had been assigned to an D-rank adventurers' team, tasked with venturing into the nearby forest. Such assignments were perilous, particularly for someone of his rank and standing. Yet Lucian faced them with the same determination that had sustained him for the past few years. He had no other recourse.

In Rumeria, fifteen signified the threshold of adulthood. However, despite this milestone, its inhabitants had no means to leave the planet. Even though they knew that at eighteen, they could enter the Tower—a realm where might alone governed—they were ensnared by the planet's scarcity and the exacting criteria for joining tower-affiliated guilds and factions. These stringent conditions meant only the most gifted and capable could aspire to escape Rumeria's confines. As a result, the planet had become a cutthroat realm where survival often came at the expense of others.

The orphanage, now a distant memory, had been a haven for scrappy children and shattered dreams. Only those with substantial potential were ever considered by schools or organizations. Lucian watched many of his peers depart for brighter futures while he lingered, striving to carve out a place for himself. The headmaster's malice and favoritism had left profound scars but also ignited a fierce determination in Lucian to prove his mettle.

Outside the guild, preparing for the impending expedition, Lucian awaited the D-rank team he had accompanied on several prior missions. Most of the team treated him with disdain, as was customary for someone of his rank. F-ranks were the weakest beings in this world; it was a miracle he had survived this long. Silently waiting for the adventurers , Lucian murmured softly to himself and glanced at his status screen.

Seeing his status panel, Lucian reflected that were it not for the perilous missions he had undertaken, his stats would likely be even lower, considering the average human statistics on Rumeria were 10. As he spotted the approaching figures, realizing it was the team he had been waiting for, he quickly closed his status screen and readied himself to meet the advancing adventurers.
