Chapter 10 – Lurks Within

Come dawn, everyone is sleeping on leaves. Except Siola who is awake still, listening to the current of the river while looking at a parchment of the drawing that Vanya gave

‘I just needed a way to get to the dungeon and a way to get home.’

‘Didn’t expect that I’ll be shown a way to get to this place. Except not.’

‘I didn’t know this was a map. The path that the Clairvoyance shown me was questionable on this because the destination it shows is a place I used to spent my time on grinding.’

‘Krilla Dungeon.’

‘Place of excruciatingly difficult monsters. The longer one stays, the stronger they become.’

‘But Arma— ahem, Lady Armalia says that I have to save someone trapped in it. I’ve never seen an NPC there before. But maybe I might’ve missed something then or the fact that I started out so late, others might’ve already beaten me to it.’

‘No matter what, that’s the only path Clairvoyance got wrong and I don’t know why though. It’s close to the beach, far north of a big town called Hikanda.’

‘Wait, maybe it’s not wrong.’

‘Yeah, it was too fast for me to process it. It’s unfortunate that I can’t use it again. But it doesn’t matter when I already know of the destination.’

She stood, “Alright, y’all. Wake up! We got to move now!”

“Come on, wake up, people! We don’t have all day!”

“Hnnghr…”

“Hrmmuh… wuh…”

Soon the expedition party embark once more towards their original destination. Upon a land split in two, lies a certain death if one were to fall. They did not expect that the dungeon is faraway still, vertically at least.

“Any of you brought a rope?” Colon asked.

“No need.”

“Huh?”

Siola walks to the edge.

“W-Wait, ma’am!”

“Miss Siola!”

Small black mist replaces her as she disappears in an instant.

Their eyes widened.

All five of them rushed to see while also planking their body by the edge. They see Siola, down at the bottom, moving towards a rubble.

“M-Ma’am! A-Are you OKAY!”

Siola look at them and put her thumbs up.

She nods, “O-Okay.”

“D-Did she just teleport?”

“Since when can she do that?”

“Yeahhh, that doesn’t make sense.”

“Shut up, all three of you.”

They shift their attention back at Siola who is pulling out stones from the rubble one by one. Slowly she works on it until, the gate of the dungeon is visible.

“I-I can’t believe it.”

“So, it’s true.”

“My god, she’s actually a saint.”

“We found it.”

“Ahahahah, Pent, we found it!”

Seeing Colon’s excited face, and the cheer of the others, he can’t help but smile widely as they celebrate their success. Even Siola can see them as she rests on the rubble. Smiling.

The story has been illicitly taken; should you find it on Amazon, report the infringement.

“Goodness me.”

Shaking her head, her eye caught something in the small waterway. It’s bubbling.

“Hm?”

Something emerged from it, a small tentacle with a ring attached to its shaft. It extending more and more, and it took a moment for Siola to realize it.

Her eyes widened. Within an instant, the small singular tentacle became gigantic as it swings towards her.

*BOOM*

Siola managed to roll in time as the rubble was cleared by the gigantic tentacle, but she knows that it is no mere tentacles.

Quickly, she took the Mana Potion but before she can even drink it, her feet were quickly dragged by another smaller tentacle.

The men above witness it, “Wh-What is that…”

“That tentacle!”

“No, in the water!”

A large lump, as it emerged from the waterway. Creature with indescribable trait. Like a flesh being torn all over. Uncountable number of small tentacles screaming all over it.

Something emerged from the lump. A humanoid full of blood.

It’s the first time Siola sees something in the like ever since she came to this world, but even upside down, she remembers what it is. A creature that she never had the chance of killing.

One tentacle aiming to pierce her stomach.

Reaching to her crossbow, “I beseech thee, O brilliant light, bestow thy blessing upon this servant, that I may smite thine enemies.”

“Sacred Flame!”

Crashing onto her crossbow, a golden light. At the same time, the tentacle charged, and miss. Upon dodging it, Siola grabs her fiery golden white crossbow and shoot the imbued bolt straight to the head of the humanoid drenched in blood.

“Greeewuhwuhuhwuh!”

It let her go as she rolled away and started running as she reloads. The men up top sees the horrifying monstrosity and snapped back when Siola escapes.

“W-We have to help her.”

“Yeahh! We have to help the saint!”

“Men, grab your bows and arrows!”

“Colon! That boulder!”

He sees it, and nod.

Siola dodges the flailing tentacles. Only stopping to shoot the head of the humanoid with unparallel accuracy.

As she was about to get hit, the creature was shot by multiple arrows, but it didn’t slow it down at all.

“Glimmer Veil!”

Angled magical spectral shield appears, redirecting the attack of the tentacle upwards.

*BOOM*

It started chasing her as she loads another bolt onto her crossbow.

*BOOM*

‘Damn it. It knows my bolts are bad news.’

‘I can’t keep this up. I only have one vial of potion left, if I use it to escape, it might chase the others too.’

‘What can I do, what can I do!’

‘What can you do, Siola?! Think!’

*BOOM*

*BOOM*

“Damn it! Damn it!”

Suddenly, a boulder hits the creature and submerging it down the water way.

*Pant *Pant

“Miss Siola!”

“MA’AM!”

She looks up to see them, and for the first time, she was relieved to have them.

“Can you come back up?!”

“Y-YEAH!”

She took the last vial from its holster but before she can take it, a tentacle rapidly emerged from the water and pierced her chest.

“???”

“…”

Her eyes widened as stinging pain from her chest surged to her brain.

The creature emerged once more to greet her, and the men saw horror.

“Nngh??”

She was lifted to the air.

“Ngeh…” in pure disbelief, she started laughing, “Ehh… Eheheheh…”

The humanoid creature which has had half of his head melted. His hand becomes a sharp tentacle, reaching towards her face.

“Aha, guess I’m just… nope! I’ll take the faster way out.”

“Mage shift.”

*STAB*

The tentacle pierces her brain… Except not. It only passes through her head as if it’s stabbing a smoke.

Siola lifts her hand, grasping the air from the back and pushes it forward. The wind split, like a fast current, pushes away the monstrosity and back.

“Greweuweuuuurrrr?!”

It holds on to the platform as it regains its footing. It sees Siola still floating in the air, but her eyes are even darker than the skin it has.

Deep breath.

“Mmm,” her grin reaches her ears, “Yes.”

Suddenly, the creature shudder. Reluctant to attack as it sees something others can’t see. Something dark, something empty.

Siola took her mace, “Heheheh…”

“I beseech thee, O brilliant light, bestow thy blessing upon this servant, that I may smite thine enemies.”

“Sacred Flame.”

Once more, her weapon radiates fiery golden light.

Upon seeing the flash of light, the creature notices the weapon she’s carrying and choose to charge at her with all its might.

“Heheh, just a mindless beast.”

“They cry for thee, Dead One, grant me thy blessing for I will wield them in thine name.”

She cast a sign, “Transcendental Law of the Dead God.”

The creature screech, “Greeeeeeeewawwaaaaaaaarh!”

On the ground, the platform shatter as her mace touches it.

“Shattered Soul.”

The platform cracks.

“Grrrrrraaaaaaaaawwwwweeeeeeeeeeeeergh!”

In just an instant, Siola appears before the creature with the mace swinging in the air. Faintly imbued with a cracked dimensional shield.

She plunged.

*CRASH*

Like a glass, the core of the creature shattered alongside its body.

It floats on the water right after, lifelessly.
