Chapter Eleven. Escape through the Ventilation Shaft.

Shaking my head hopelessly, I signaled to Mr. Mark, and he sighed and motioned for me to come down.

The sounds of slurping stopped for a moment, and I stopped, lifting one leg.

A struggle ensued, and something thudded against the door, and the shelves barely withstood the impact, swayed, almost fell.

Quickly changing his position, the neighbor went upstairs and began to pull the bars with his fingers.

Standing in a defensive posture, I held a flashlight wrapped in a shirt and picked up the shotgun.

Something rolled down the corridor, and the nearest door was forced open with one blow.

Swallowing my saliva, I nervously put my index finger on the trigger and waited for the next maneuvers of the hungry creatures.

I heard the sounds of a broken flute and remembered how then, being in the closet, trembling all over, I understood the outcome of a possible future.

The thought was cut short when someone behind me touched my shoulder, and I turned with the muzzle of a shotgun.

Seeing that the neighbor was already half in the mine, I also hurried upstairs.

I handed him a shotgun and a flashlight, as well as several bottles of water, and felt the metal surface of the ventilation shaft with my hands.

As I was scrambling, my foot slipped and accidentally bumped against the nearby box, which was barely keeping the rack in place. With a loud creaking noise, the flimsy support gave way, threatening to collapse and expose our location.

Holding a not very light burden with the tips of my right toes, I heard a crash behind me, shelves were falling one after another, something was ramming the door from the opposite side without stopping with excitement.

Knowing that they would soon break in, I waited for the next rumble to release the burden, and, resting my elbows on the smooth surface, moved away from the entrance, pressing my legs to my stomach.

A sharp pain in my stomach awakened a rational fear in me. Realizing that there were strong and bloodthirsty creatures behind me, I was seized by a panic attack.

My thoughts were confused until I heard the screeching of shelves and falling boxes being torn apart by the sharp claws of the creatures.

Biting my lip, I looked ahead.

The neighbor has long since turned left and disappeared from sight.

With a rush of adrenaline, I also hobbled on all fours into the darkness.

Afraid to be left alone in this nightmare, I tried to move my limbs as quickly as possible, touching the metal ceiling with my back.

Soon I heard a barely audible rustle of clothes ahead and realized that the neighbor was already nearby.

After regaining my nervous breathing, I slowed down as I approached Mr. Mark.

We moved slowly, but from the ache in my limbs, I realized that we had already covered a considerable distance.

The sounds of fighting and scurrying monsters clearly came from below us.

Then I felt like a little rabbit running away from a bloodthirsty predator

So, here it is, an ambiguous feeling, to have someone higher up the food chain. Not so cool.

At this point, I was no longer sure if we would be able to escape. As I crashed into the legs of the neighbor, I realized with horror the reason for the sudden stop.

The ventilation shaft was teeming with life, and vibrations reverberated throughout my body, filling me with a new wave of horror.

One of the monsters had crawled through the hole in the ventilation shaft and was now on the same level as us.

Encountering a creature in such a narrow space, there seemed to be only one way out: being eaten alive, slowly and painfully

The neighbor was in no hurry to move, studying where the noise was coming from. I sat on the fifth point and wiped the sweat from my forehead.

Is this the end?
