Chapter 5: A Whirlwind of Thoughts
----------------------------------------
I gather some sticks together and start to make some more needles. I am only making enough for basic hunting sessions to go into the forest for wood, food, and other materials. I need to find something stronger to be able to make better equipment. I think with this web I’ll be able to make a bow, but I need to find feathers or something similar to make the arrows.
When I was younger I took a class that taught how to make basic bow and arrows. I may need to go online and search on some tips to make them, but they could be very useful. I finish making my needles and I move towards where the foxes’ spawn just past the rabbits. I spot a fox standing, looking around like it forgot something.
I ready my arm to throw the needle, aiming straight for its heart. I throw the needle and it hits the fox right where I aimed, the fox doesn't even have time to react to the needle thrown at it. Hmm…that’s weird, maybe the fox wasn't paying attention or maybe the first fox I fought was an odd one. I walk over to the fox and collect the materials from its body. After I finish, I move towards the next lone fox and the same thing happened again! It was like the fox didn't even know it hit him until the very last second.
I wonder why it is become so easy to kill the foxes now. Before, when I tried to kill the foxes it was hard and they were able to hurt me pretty badly. Maybe, with all the exercise I have been doing and the fight with the spider I became stronger. It would explain why it’s so easy to kill the foxes now. Well…that just means that I will be able to gather materials faster and be able to make some decent gear.
I continue to hunt foxes for a bit until I had gathered about 20 pelts from them. All this should be able to help me make some decent gear. I head back to my camp and start to set out the fox pelts to dry. I gathered the rabbit pelts and counted how many I can use to start to craft.
After I finished counting I had 94 rabbit pelts, which is a good number to start. Even though rabbit pelts are weak they can be added together to make better padding. Maybe I can even try and build a bed instead to sleep on. I go and check on the web and find that it is dry enough to be worked with. I start gathering it together and start to roll it on a rock. I could make leather strips to combine things together but it would not work as well and they would break often if they got too thin. Unlike the web I gathered it is strong and it will be very useful in making items.
I sit down with a pile of materials next to me and I start to make something basic from the leather, a forearm guard, I don’t think that will be too difficult to make. I start to make the first one only to start stabbing myself with the needle…go figure…I use needles yet I am getting stabbed by needles.
This book's true home is on another platform. Check it out there for the real experience.
I fail in my first attempt to make an arm guard, it was a disaster, looking more like a cylinder. I decided to do something different first. I took measurements from my own arm to tried and make it again. This time it came out semi-better, but it was still not usable at all. I continue trying to make them, I was able to make one or two that were decent but not great. After the 25th try to make one I finally got the skill I wanted.
You have gained the skill: Tailor
I start jumping around for joy from finally getting the skill, finally! I get back down and start to make more arm guards and this time they work out pretty well, not great, but usable. I start to make a set of simple armor out of the rabbit pelts and I will keep the fox pelts for now. Until I get better at tailoring, I could mess things up royally.
I move and continue to make the armor, after the night hits I stop and start with my nightly workout. I will need to get stronger. I need to try and find material in the woods. Well, at least I can make some gear now and not run around in the basic rags I have been in. I still need them but I can use the rabbit pelts to cover and replace pieces. I wish I had a skill that would let me know what kind of gear this is or its durability. That’s usually a passive ability in most games, but here it’s hard to get. I wonder if I can get to the safe zone and find a skill book or something that will let see the stats of the equipment. When the information is known about the item, like your starter gear, you will be able to know the information about it but afterwards it’s harder. To be able to get this skill you usually need to have an NPC teach you or be extremely lucky and find a book that will automatically give it to you.
It is even rumored that there are certain people that are able to make those skill books. They supposedly hide their identity and how to make them, which I understand very well. Who would want some strangers or newbs trying to pester you to give them something so important? Well…no use now, I need to get more materials together to sell to even attempt to try and get one of those books. I’ll also need to get more tools to make it easier to gather and make items.
I also could use an NPC to join me, but that would cost a good sum of money to even attempt and currently that’s not even possible. Also, when I get him I will have to build him up, teach him hunting, and other skills that take a long process. Maybe once I get a group together from them I will be able to automate them to have a group to train the new players or NPCs that join.
This is all in the future though and I can't really do any of these things now. I still have a few more hours until the sun comes up. Until then, I guess I’ll working out more.
Ah! I already feel like it is going to be a long night...
