Dream bigger.

“Thank you so much for helping us… Your name is Kazz, right?” Asked a man with long white hair, it didn't take too long for me to nod.

We’re in a bar after doing some side chores, we deserve a good rest, but it’s also a good opportunity to discuss some things.

“Don’t thank me, this is all because Allee asked me to help you guys after the civilians insisted, if it was for me I wouldn’t have done anything,” I tried to not show too much emotion after being praised.

That’s something no sorcerer should feel good about, after all, we’re taught that we’re the messengers of evil, our job is to bring chaos and non-magical people are nothing but tools to fulfill our purposes, this is making me feel sick about myself, the leaders would put a price to my head if they knew about this but my master would probably be proud of me, I miss her.

“But Kazz… Didn’t you say that it was important to find the guild of the city?” Allee suddenly said with a confused expression and I couldn’t help but gulp.

This man in front of me is the local guild leader, his name is Batz Stein, and he’s the guild master of the guild of this city, they call themselves, 'Mont Obsidianz', yes with a “z” instead of an “s”.

“I know about the pride magical people have, so, don’t worry about the details Kazz, we’re thankful for what you did for us ‘Mont Obsidianz’,” The leader said with a soft smile.

“The best guild in the woooorld!” Two blonde girls with a rainbow halo and rainbow wings sang those words as they appeared behind the leader, these girls seemed to belong to the angel race.

“How did this happen, boss? Don't guilds usually have anti-magic artifacts?” I was worried about the fact that not even a whole guild was able to put Jaggi in check considering he’s one of the weakest sorcerers, of course, I used to be weaker than him but not anymore.

“Well, the problem is that Jaggi came here as an apprentice for the local healer, and surprisingly, Jaggi was quite charming, it was nice to have a sorcerer who wasn’t grumpy most of the time like the old healer,” Batz sighed. “He even managed to become friends with us guild members, one day the old healer disappeared mysteriously and Jaggi became the new healer, everyone trusted him, but it didn’t take too long before he started with his plans,” The guild leader took a sip of his drink.

It seems like they’ve been fooled by the classic charming personality that most sorcerers have to take control of the things they aren’t supposed to take over, sadly I suck so much that I don’t have that ability.

“He actually started with us, he warned us about an orc army coming to this city, everyone went to the entrance to protect the city which caused the guild to be left alone, he took that opportunity to take control of our magical database to control our minds, he used us as his personal army to terrorize the city and arrest the citizens,” The man clearly experienced something awful. “And when he finished turning all the people into toys, he did the same with us,” The man drank once again bitterly.

Surprisingly, the guild members as toys were saved in a special box, luckily one of the girls that was turned into a doll witnessed all that because even if they were toys, they were still conscious.

“I’m sorry to hear what happened to you guys, if there’s anything we can do to help you please don’t hesitate to ask us,” Allee as always, she’s truly an angel.

“Actually… I was about to ask you two to join our guild Mont Obsidianz…” The leader blushed after proposing this.

“The best guild in the woooorld!” The blonde angel girls sang those words again as they appeared behind the leader.

“These girls surely have nice voices…” I couldn’t help but feel surprised. “So, about your proposal we agree—” I tried to say but Allee quickly stopped me.

“We’re flattered but we have bigger dreams for the moment… We plan to defeat the demon king!” Allee suddenly said without consulting me.

Soon, all the people in the bar stared at us with shocked expressions and they couldn’t help but gulp and gasp at Allee’s declaration.

“She’s joking, right?” A man dressed like a clown said.

“So young and so foolish,” A girl around our age mumbled.

“Young people truly don’t appreciate their lives,” An old lady said before she gulped a whole bottle of cheap liquor.

This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road. If you spot it on Amazon, please report it.

“Allee… I think we need to discuss this…” I tried to not abandon the idea too quickly.

“What’s there to discuss Kazz? I promised Sir Louis that I was going to defeat the demon king,” I couldn’t believe what I was hearing.

This girl, it seems like when she gets an idea stuck in her head it’s impossible to make her forget about it, however, if someone is guilty of getting that idea stuck in her head it’s me, I promised her this and there’s no way for me to escape from this.

“Damn Kazz from the past, why did you do this?” I thought bitterly as I blamed myself.

The guild leader remained in silence for a few moments and then he clarified his voice before he looked at us.

“Look, I don’t want to discourage you from your dreams, but why don’t you think about my proposal without rejecting it?” He said with a soft smile on his face and I couldn’t help but trust him, he seemed nice. “I know being part of a guild doesn’t offer the fame and glory that comes from defying the demon king, however, we can offer you a monthly allowance and a place to stay as long as you fulfill the monthly quests!” He said cheerfully.

“That doesn’t sound bad… Are you guys looking for material farmers? I don’t like to brag but I’m kind of an expert when it comes to materials,” I was starting to like the idea so much.

Despite what many people think, you can't just join a guild without some credentials, In today's age, and with the difficult economy of the world, guilds are the ones that recruit people and not the other way just like it used to be in the past.

“We’re always looking for material farmers and with your magical abilities I think we can finally make use of our alchemy lab after centuries, it’s been so long since we had a sorcerer in the guild,” the guild master said and it made me feel like I could be treated like a celebrity here, I like it.

“I don’t know,” Allee clearly wanted bigger things in life, and it’s to be expected, she has been like a caged bird her whole life.

“Look, don’t pressure yourselves before taking a decision, there’s something I’d like to show you guys later, and if that doesn’t convince you, the path to the demon king’s castle is long and we’ll always have a place for you two in the guild in case you decide to come back,” I couldn’t help but feel overwhelmed, this is the first time someone has needed me.

I was kind of curious to see what the guild leader wanted to show us but then, the door of the bar was opened violently, and a group of curious people appeared.

There’s a tall green-skinned woman with horns she looks to be at least ten feet tall, walking on her right side there is also a fat orc, a not-so-tall young man, and someone I knew, someone I didn't want to see in my life again, a sorceress using a diamond hat.

“Oh no,” I couldn’t help but say disappointed.

“Where are the people who defeated the evil sorcerer!?” The tall woman said as she showed a claymore on each hand.

“Allee let’s hide and—” I mumbled to my friend as I tried to escape from here, but then, Allee decided to talk.

“Yes, here we are… What business do you have with us?” Allee took my arm and raised it alongside her arm to show we were the culprits and once again Allee was showing her fearless side.

She took a quick look at us and it seemed like the tall woman had a hard time believing her.

“You two?” The orc said before he started to laugh like crazy.

“Yes, just the two of us, no one else, that’s our victory and I must say that this sorcerer here did a good job, him, no one else, no other man, him...,” Allee said as she pointed at me.

My opportunity to escape here faded and I couldn't help but gulp.

“Well, well… Look at what we have here, it seems like you took a step further in your scams, and now you’re paying people to lie for you!” The sorceress chuckled as she got close to me. “Kazz,” she said intending to mock me as she looked down at me.

“Nahilda…” I said under my breath with an angry tone.

“You two know each other Nahi?” Asked the green-skinned woman with a surprised look on her face.

“Kazz who is she?” Allee was curious now.

“She used to be my bride, we were engaged…Until she tried to turn me into magical powder!” I said angrily.

And it didn’t take too long before the older sorceress started to laugh.

“Oh right, that was fun, the fool thought I was in love with him,” Nahilda added and then she started to laugh once again. “You should have seen his expression that day Lamonsuta,” she said to the green-skinned woman.

“What an idiot, well it’s expected from him, he’s a sorcerer after all,” Lamonsuta if that was her name said.

“Sometimes I feel bad for breaking women’s hearts but then I remember there are guys like him and I feel better, right Aliki?” the orc said to the human guy in their group before he started to drink directly from a bottle.

“Come on Zajoot, don’t be so harsh on the pathetic sorcerer, after all, handling a woman like Nahilda requires a real man like me,” the human said before he hugged the witch from behind and then kissed her neck.

“Are you jealous of him, Kazz? He’s a real man not like the sorcerer scum of our hometown, and that includes you!” She tried to brag before she showed me her tongue.

But surprisingly, I remained in my place, I was more worried about what the green-skinned woman would do to us than the fact that my former bride had another man, as I looked at them I couldn’t help but feel bad for him.

“Poor guy,” I said before I sighed.

“What!? You’re just bitter because I replaced you easily!” Nahilda tried to make me angry but I just sighed.

“Why would I be bitter? Maybe in different circumstances, I would’ve been bitter but I realized that you’re an old sorceress, you’re part of the first generation of magical children which makes you more than nine hundred years old and you’ve accomplished nothing in your life despite coming from one of the founder families,” I fantasized a lot of times about what I wanted to say if I saw her once again, it felt good to say this, if we were going to die anyway, at least I wanted to let her know this.

And just like it was expected, she wasn’t happy with my words and I felt satisfied with what I said.

“Thanks to Dr. Sigma’s teachings now I strive to be better, he made me realize that I deserve someone better than you,” I said calmly. “Good luck boy and be careful, she likes to make her boyfriends disappear mysteriously,” I added with a smirk on my face.

“Dr Sigma? I remember that bald short guy, he tried to flirt with me and when I rejected his advances he ranted about how superior men are compared to women,” the green-skinned woman said as she caressed her chin.

“That doesn’t make any sense, Dr. Sigma only dates women in their prime, ages between eighteen and twenty-five, also, he doesn’t date muscle girls nor women that don’t follow the traditional roles,” I chuckled at her words.

“Uh guys, what do you need from us?” Allee seemed embarrassed right now.

“Poor girl, I hope you’re not dating this scum,” Nahilda tried to hide her anger but it made me happy to know she was having a hard time accepting her reality.

“That’s impossible… She’s too cute for him,” the green-skinned woman said before she got close to Allee.

Her teammates sighed and I stared at the tall woman trying to decipher what she was trying to do with my friend, and then, she took her hand before she kissed the top of it.

“I’m Lamonsuta by the way but you can call me Lammy or the love of your life,” said the tall woman with a smirk on her face.

“Leave her alone you—” They could do anything they wanted with me but Allee should be left alone, she’s too innocent for them.

But then Allee did something that surprised me, she blushed and started to giggle and for some reason, she started to play with her hair, I couldn’t help but sigh, Allee truly needs to read Dr. Sigma’s work before she gets her heart broken.

Curiosity #15: Guilds used to accept anyone, but due to the strong competition between guilds, they were forced to recruit strong people by themselves.
